Prayer Requests 8-19-20

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget Ajissun and the folks in The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 18:1-19

I love you, Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
    my shield and the horn[c] of my salvation, my stronghold.

I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
    and I have been saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me;
    the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
    the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called to the Lord;
    I cried to my God for help.
   From his temple he heard my voice;
    my cry came before him, into his ears.
The earth trembled and quaked,
    and the foundations of the mountains shook;
    they trembled because he was angry.
Smoke rose from his nostrils;
    consuming fire came from his mouth,
    burning coals blazed out of it.
He parted the heavens and came down;
    dark clouds were under his feet.
10 He mounted the cherubim and flew;
    he soared on the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him—
    the dark rain clouds of the sky.
12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced,
    with hailstones and bolts of lightning.
13 The Lord thundered from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded.
14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy,
    with great bolts of lightning he routed them.
15 The valleys of the sea were exposed
    and the foundations of the earth laid bare
   at your rebuke, Lord,
    at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
    from my foes, who were too strong for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
    but the Lord was my support.
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;
    he rescued me because he delighted in me.

  1. Please pray for my cousin Tommy, who is my age.

    Yesterday on Facebook, I had written something about how praising and worshiping God is a reasonable thing for Him to expect us to do, and that we naturally praise things we appreciate. (“We naturally “oo” and “ah” at a beautiful sunset or gasp “How beautiful!” about an especially lovely flower garden or a particularly beautiful dog. We offer praise for the movies we love or the artists we admire or the delicious foods we eat.”)

    Late last night (I saw it this morning), Tommy sent me a private message saying that he didn’t know why but he felt compelled (his word) to write to me in response to that post. He wrote a long message about how he doesn’t go to church because he was not taught how to, so he feels awkward not knowing how to follow along (referring to the liturgy in a Catholic church). He also wrote that he believes in God and prays each night, thanking Him for a good day (even when it was a crappy day) and asking for blessing for his family, for patience and strength and to be a better person, and for any special needs for people he knows.

    I asked for guidance in responding, and ended up writing my own testimony of how I came to faith and how God has helped me since Hubby’s death. I also mentioned that there are more casual churches where you don’t need to know the liturgy to feel comfortable.

    Please pray for the Holy Spirit to move in his heart and bring him to salvation, and also salvation for his wife and two children. (His daughter is in high school, and his son is out of high school.) Thank you.

  2. My daughter and her family were evacuated from their home. Waiting to hear an update on the Jones fire this morning. Smoke looked bad here, but I went out walking.

  3. I asked you to pray a few days ago for my colleague’s grandfather, 97, uncle, and grandfather caregiver–33 and on a ventilator–all suffering from COVID.

    The grandfather died last night; I got the text about midnight. Her comment, “Now he’s reunited with Grandma, and happy with Jesus.”

    No word on the other two.

    Another church friend’s mother died in a Florida nursing home last night–alone except for the masked nurses, etc., who terrified her. She’d turned her face to the wall recently and refused water and food, wanting to die. Grieving on all accounts.

  4. So, in the department of son and pregnant girlfriend: they have accepted the offer for the classes at the preg center and a ride there and back. Now I have offered to set up a medical appt for her and baby with us covering the cost and driving her there and back. God will have to work to get that through as well. Thanks.

  5. She has agreed to a doc appt! Sounds like she is just scared and did not know how to get it done. I am also not convinced she has shared this info with her parents or grandparents though son said they did.

  6. Just found out my friend, Karen, will go in the hospital tomorrow for heart issues.
    Also, found out that Wesley’s arm is fractured and he will see a specialist for the cast. Did I already write about that? I had to post it to my Bible study prayer thread and by this time of day everything melts together in my brain. Sorry if I ready put that on here.

  7. Either she is nearly nineteen or nearly eighteen. Son said she told her parents and mom just shrugged it off, dad and step mom are available. But…..son is not a pillar of truth.

  8. They would not let us make the appt so they are calling her to set it up. She may not have the internal strength to do that. All we can do is encourage.

  9. Husband gave them an old number. Hard to keep up with constantly changing phones. We will try calling when we get together on Friday for the pregnancy center visit.
