  1. I was reading Matthew 16:3 This morning. Jesus was chiding followers about reading the signs of the times.
My dad used to think that every unusual thing that happened in the world was a sign of the imminent return of Christ.
I wouldn’t go there. However, this Virus 19 deal has the entire world in turmoil. I see it lasting a long time.
    And flooding disasters in Indonesia.
And lawlessness in American cities that is unique to this country. Never, during previous turmoil, have we have had such blatant lawlessness. And the “lawmakers” side with them.

I have no idea about what is happening. I don’t think anyone else does either.
    But it ain’t good.

  3. The left is the best salesman for guns in America. NPR of course wants to blame Covid too, but as far as I know, guns won’t work against the virus. This is the protests and the roving bands of rioters doing this.

“Amid Protests And Virus Fears, Firearm Background Checks Hit All-Time High”

“In a year marked by coronavirus fears, a slowing economy and nationwide protests calling for an end to systemic racism, more and more Americans are looking to arm themselves, according to a key government indicator.

The FBI reported that Americans set a new record of 3.9 million background checks to purchase or possess firearms in June. That eclipsed the previous record set in March of 3.7 million background checks.

In fact, seven of 1o highest weeks for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which is run by the FBI and was launched in 1998, have come this year. This includes the first four weeks in June.”

Now what in June could lead to that? Maybe large scale riots…..?

“NeverTrump “Republican” Lincoln Project Funded By Democrat Donors

The Lincoln Project’s Funding Sure Does Make it Look Like a Democrat Fundraising Front Group”

“The Lincoln Project is a group comprised (at least publicly) of NeverTrump hold outs, including former GOP strategist and political opportunist (whatever garners the most cable hits though, right?), Rick Wilson.

“The Lincoln Project is holding accountable those who would violate their oaths to the Constitution and would put others before Americans,” claims the group’s website, which also claims “President Donald Trump and those who sign onto Trumpism are a clear and present danger to the Constitution and our Republic.”

    —-

“Every Lincoln Project post is either anti-Trump or anti-Republican (even anti-ultra moderate Republican), which begs the question — what, exactly, are they for?

David Harsanyi at National Review sums it up nicely:

If the Lincoln Project was exclusively campaigning against Donald Trump, one might be tempted to believe it wasn’t merely an arm of the Democratic Party. If one of its co-founders, John Weaver, hadn’t been registered as a foreign agent lobbying for a Russia-owned nuclear-energy company against U.S. sanctions not long ago, one might accept that the group believed the conspiracy theories it spreads. If the group wasn’t working against the moderate Republicans senators for the sin of supporting originalist Supreme Court justices, who will transcend the Trump presidency and help preserve the traditional constitutional order, one might believe that its mission was to preserve the system. If you target moderates like Susan Collins and Cory Gardner — politicians who not only parted with Trump on issues but have quite un-Trumpian dispositions — you’re not working against Trumpism, you’re working against the GOP.

…By far the biggest donor has been Stephen Mandel, who gave the Lincoln Project — which, as far as I can tell, produces cheap b-roll-laden ads and takes nearly 90 percent of its budget in “operating expenditures” — a million dollars. Employees at his company Lone Pine Capital, it seems, have given the Democratic Party Senate committee $497,000 this year, $248,500 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign committee, and a bunch of money to other left-wing candidates. During the 2018 cycle, employees at Lone Pine Capital doled out $5,893,300 to Democrats and $1,333,333 to Planned Parenthood.

I’m confused somewhat by one of the other top names: Arturas Kerelis, who news reports say is actually an Internet grifter named Arturas Rosenbacher. Maybe the donor is a different person. Then again, it would fit. (It looks like his donation was refunded.) Amos Hostetter, who dropped over a million dollars on the Obama Foundation, and David Geffen have been giving money to Democrats decades before Donald Trump ever ran for president or “Trumpism” existed. As has another top Lincoln Project donor, Joshua Bekenstein, director of Bain Capital, who gave Democrats $3.5 million in 2018.”

  5. I can’t wait to read it. Kurt never leaves you wondering where he stands on issues. 🙂

“Kurt Schlichter’s Episodic Devotional Will Make Righties Laugh And Cheer

The notorious columnist’s latest book, ‘The 21 Biggest Lies About Donald Trump (and You!),’ is funny, completely over-the-top, and a more appropriate response to the calumny directed at conservatives than allegedly decorous political observers want to admit.”

“When I first started reading Kurt Schlichter’s political columns, I thought he was a bit of a blowhard and also kind of an evil genius at cooking up big, steaming pies of metaphor scrapple. I also figured he was preaching to the choir. A Schlichter essay can be a tactical victory, but, if you are fighting a war, you have to win a few strategic maneuvers. Would his columnar vitality translate to book length?

In The 21 Biggest Lies About Donald Trump (and You!), the answer is yes and no. The 23 chapters more or less go from general to more specific, and each is an answer to a canard against the president, and, by extension, those who support him.

“Trump is a Racist . . . and You’re a Bunch of Bigots Too!”; “Trump is Stupid . . . and You Idiots Are Too!” Trump is a warmonger, Trump is literally a Nazi, Trump hates the press, is a pawn of the National Rifle Association, is a bully, loves dictators, corrupts Christians, and is tearing our nation apart. And so are you. The theme is defamation of character—against Trump, and, more importantly, against those who voted for or support him.

The liars don’t want to change minds. They want to shame you, their enemy, into submission. Their purely ad hominem debate style does not seek to convert the slandered. Rather, because the lies are so obvious and hackneyed, they want to force the uncommitted to accept the narrative or crush any spirit of victim in the victim.

Schlichter’s answer to this gambit is, “You think you’re good at this? I will turn it around and destroy you using the same technique.” He mostly does.

He might not succeed so often if the left did not, time and again, put up such ridiculous strawman arguments to begin with, and toss such vicious calumny at conservatives—or, frankly, at anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Even away from Twitter and the like, it can certainly seem these days that every leftist heart is filled near to bursting with a steaming goulash of hatred and contempt.

Taking the Fight to the Enemy
While Schlichter frames the book as an answer to leftist media charges against President Trump and, by extension, the half of the country who voted for him, a lot of it is recasting of old Schlichter columns at Townhall and elsewhere. That is generally a good thing. They made excellent points then, and bear repetition.”

  7. It seems the federal troops sent to Portland to protect federal property are over stepping their authority and making the situation worse.
    https://www.adn.com/nation-world/2020/07/17/unidentified-federal-officers-in-unmarked-minivans-detain-portland-protesters/

Unfortunately I can’t find another video I saw of a young woman being “arrested” when she was walking down the street wearing black clothes. The troops have no ID, do not talk, and don’t even identify what agency they are from. This could’ve been my daughter — she too dresses in black. How are these women to know if they are being arrested or kidnapped?

I know you oppose the demonstrations but this isn’t a solution and its an overreach of federal executive power. I can’t imagine the reaction if Obama or any Democrat did something similar.

  9. HRW,

There’s no great mystery. They’re federal police protecting federal property, the federal courthouse. They aren’t arresting people for no reason either, but nice try. They are being arrested for once again trying to seize federal property. While the locals may stand down for the local spineless politicians, the feds do not. It’s called clearing the area and protecting the perimeter from criminals.

  10. From the various articles and videos I have seen, the federal troops have wandered away from the federal property and do not identify themselves. Its interesting to note those who advocate the use of the Second Amendment to protect themselves from tyrannical government support the federal troops arbitrarily imprisoning people — no probable cause, no arrest record, no charge, nothing.

Tychicus — you use Trump as a source for Biden’s platform? Would you use Biden as a source for Trump’s platform?

  12. So you are okay with an unidentified military force “arresting” people without cause into a private vehicle and taking them to an undisclosed location? The military force in question were not police they were federal troops. Depending on the jurisdiction police are required to identify themselves and at the very least not change their uniform to hide their badge number or name plate. Right now they are kidnapping young people dressed in black — who’s next?

On the covid front the politicization of data will only serve to impede public health. Anecdotal comments from right wing bloggers will not help. Looking at the preliminary data the death rate has increased in the last two weeks yet the president insists schools and businesses should reopen. The workers and their children are put at risk for economic statistics. The rest of the world is watching the US in horror and pity and US rivals — Russia and China — advance their geopolitical interests.

  13. They are not unidentified. They are federal police, as the ABC correspondent states numerous times in the video at 4:12. They go by vehicle to the closest federal lock up, which ironically would usually entail a trip the fed courthouse they’re attacking yet again first.

Arrest is not kidnapping. They’ll get their phone call and an appearance in court as well, all within 48 hours of course. That’s how it works.

Police aren’t obligated to share with the arrested’s co-conspirators where the arrested are taken. That’s not how it works.

  14. You would be outraged if this was a right wing group being arrested. In this particular case, the individual was released with no arrest record, no charges, no court appearance, etc. In other words they were held without cause.

  15. Sorry you disagree with our laws, but police can hold you for up to 48 hours if you are suspected of a crime.

And your link left out the details that matter in order to push their false narrative.

    Here’s the facts.

    https://www.thehour.com/news/article/It-was-like-being-preyed-upon-Federal-officers-15415096.php

“One widely shared video showed two men in military garb on the street at night taking a young man wearing all black into custody. On the video, the two agents do not answer shouted questions before putting the suspect into an unmarked minivan and driving away.

On Friday, Customs and Border Protection issued a statement taking responsibility for the apprehension and asserting its agents were wearing gear that identified them as CBP personnel.

CBP agents went after that individual because they suspected he was involved in “assaults against federal agents or destruction of federal property,” the statement said. “Once CBP agents approached the suspect, a large and violent mob moved towards their location. For everyone’s safety, CBP agents quickly moved the suspect to a safer location for further questioning.”

The agency insisted the CBP agents identified themselves and were wearing CBP insignia during the apprehension.

One protester, 29-year-old Mark Pettibone, described being grabbed by several men in green military fatigues and generic “police” patches on their clothing in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Pettibone said he did not know whether the men were police or far-right extremists, who frequently don militarylike outfits and harass left-leaning protesters in Portland.

“I was terrified,” Pettibone said in an interview. “It seemed like it was out of a horror/sci-fi, like a Philip K. Dick novel. It was like being preyed upon.”

Pettibone was taken to the city’s federal courthouse and placed in a holding cell. Two agents eventually read him his Miranda rights and asked if he would waive those rights to answer questions. He declined and the agents let him go. The federal agents who detained him did not tell him why he was being held or provide any record of an arrest, he said.”

And they aren’t required to do so. Learn the law before repeating false narratives.
