Prayer Requests 9-28-19

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your unfailing love;
   according to your great compassion
    blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
    and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,
    and my sin is always before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil in your sight;
   so you are right in your verdict
    and justified when you judge.
Surely I was sinful at birth,
    sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
    you taught me wisdom in that secret place.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
    wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
    let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins
    and blot out all my iniquity.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
    and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
    or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
    and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
    so that sinners will turn back to you.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
    you who are God my Savior,
    and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Open my lips, Lord,
    and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
    you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.

18 May it please you to prosper Zion,
    to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous,
    in burnt offerings offered whole;
    then bulls will be offered on your altar.

  1. I know it’s heresy in some circles to say that part of the Bible is not inspired.
    But I don’t believe verses 18 & 19 belong in the Bible.
    They certainly weren’t written by David.

  2. There was no problem with the walls of Jerusalem, nor restoration of the sacrifice until after the captivity.
    I believe those verses were added after the captivity.
    They are out of place wrt the prayer of David.
    Psalm 51 is a Psalm of repentance b David over the adultery and killing of Bathsheba’s husband.

  3. Then again David caused great trouble to his people when he committed adultery. He was king over the people. It was not unusual for many people to suffer from one person’s sin (actually the consequences of sin still do that) in a very public way. For David to call for the walls to be built up would be him asking for God to provide continuing protection and recognize the rightness of the sacrifices ordained by God. His sin affected not only himself but his nation. We think in a more individual way.

  4. I posted this rather late on yesterday’s prayer thread:

    A childhood friend of my siblings and mine died unexpectedly at the age of 58. Cause is unknown to us, but she was in the hospital a few weeks ago for an apparent heart attack, and her husband is in jail, charged with attempted murder, as he’d tried to kill her a few months ago.

    Please pray for Debby, her only surviving sibling. She could use a lot of prayer support. Their dad died last year, and the whereabouts of their mother, who divorced their dad years ago, is unclear to us. I don’t know if Debby and her mother have any relationship.

    Cheryl, to answer your questions from that thread, I *think* her husband was in jail at the time of her death, but I’m not 100% certain. I’ve not been in touch with the family in many years, though my mom has. Mom says he was in jail when she died, but in recent months Mom’s exhibited confusion about what things have happened when, so I don’t know how reliable her information is.

    A news article I found online describes a domestic incident in January that resulted in him being arrested and charged with making threats of violence. Another newspaper (a weekly paper) reported the next day that he was referred to the county attorney “for potential charges of domestic assault causing fear and terroristic threats…” (He’d reportedly thrown kerosene on the floor, over multiple items, and over both her and himself, threatening to burn everything up, according to one of the papers. The other paper reported he had chased her through the house at some point with a lit cigarette lighter.)

    None of us knows what he’s been charged with, whether anyone posted bond (the weekly paper reported on January 22 that he was being held in the county jail on a $30,000 unconditional bond — I don’t know what that means), or where he might have been at the time of her death. In jail? Probably, but not certain.

    As to whether Debby is a believer, I’m not sure. She and her sister were raised Catholic. I don’t know what her beliefs are, or whether she’s an active church member.

    Thank you for your prayers for her. (Pray for her mom, too.) This all haunts me so much, remembering the times their family came over to our house as their girls and my siblings and I were growing up. (My mom had been friends with their mom in high school, and that grew into a whole family-to-family friendship in the 60s and 70s.) I’m horrified at what has happened, and that I didn’t find out about any of this until just this week. (Tammy died last week, and the memorial service has already been. I’m inquiring of my siblings how I might be able to reach Debby with my condolences, through something more than, say, an online guestbook at the obituary site.)

  5. Thanks for all your prayers. Little Elly went to her six month check up and impressed the pediatrician. She’s nicely chunky, doing everything she should, very observant and he wouldn’t have known she was a premmie if it wasn’t in her chart.

    Six months ago, you prayed for her, her parents and probably the worried me. Your prayers were answered. Thank you. She’s doing great.

  6. Thanks for your prayers.
    For dinner, she ate all of a can of peaches and some fruit salad.
    Weird dinner, but it’s something. She also had half a glass of tea. Just as important.
    She may be back.

  7. Daughter is in her room with twenty two year old, laughing through Mary Poppins. Earlier was much uglier. She was out of control. Threw a can in twenty two’s face and twenty two’s karate training kicked in and she laid out eighteen. Then eighteen punched me and knocked my glasses off, so twenty two took her down again. Remember, twenty two is about eight months preg. Probably should not be doing that.
