Prayer Requests 6-21-19

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 119:129-136

פ Pe

129 Your statutes are wonderful;
    therefore I obey them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
    it gives understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant,
    longing for your commands.
132 Turn to me and have mercy on me,
    as you always do to those who love your name.
133 Direct my footsteps according to your word;
    let no sin rule over me.
134 Redeem me from human oppression,
    that I may obey your precepts.
135 Make your face shine on your servant
    and teach me your decrees.
136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes,
    for your law is not obeyed.

  1. There are not more than 6,000 believers among 60 million Turks who are 97 % Muslim! What a heartbreaking reality! The majority live in Turkey, with significant numbers living in Germany, elsewhere in Europe and around the world. Typical Turks live secularized, modern urban lives with all the materialistic advantages and temptations that go with it. Over the last years, however, increasing numbers of Turks have either recommitted themselves to their religious roots, or walked away from them.

    The Turks are beautiful people who are in general courteous, gentle and who readily show hospitality to strangers. They are also very emotional, patriotic and have a deep sense of nationalistic pride and love for their country. The fear of rejection and losing their identity (“To be a Turk is to be Muslim”, “How happy is he who can say: I’m a Turk”) often holds people back from following Christ, even after they acknowledge He is the truth.

    Please pray…
    Please pray that the recent political and economical challenges will make people see that Jesus is the only solid rock that they can find refuge in.
    Pray for Turkish believers to become aware of their responsibility in bringing the Gospel to their people, and for boldness for them.
    Praise God that, from just a handful of Turkish believers in the 1960s, a vibrant Turkish church with local leadership has emerged!

  2. Water bombs today in VBS–and some problems with sixth grade boys and girls.

    Please pray for safety.

    Meanwhile, my daughter is headed to Nica in a month and I woke up in a sweat this morning worrying about her safety in Central America.

  4. A friend’s husband is in firefighter training school. They knew he had a hernia when he began and the plan was for him to have surgery as soon as school ended–next week.

    The hernia became very painful today. They’re having him stay through the end of the day. We’re all pretty concerned about his health.

    Thanks.
