Prayer Requests 1-3-19

Psalm 127

¹Unless the Lord builds the house,
    the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
    the guards stand watch in vain.
²In vain you rise early
    and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
    for he grants sleep to those he loves.

³Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward from him.
⁴Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
    are children born in one’s youth.
⁵Blessed is the man
    whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
    when they contend with their opponents in court.

1. Today is the memorial service friend’s son.
2. Pray for BG. She got her days mixed up yesterday and slept through something. It could hold some harsh ramifications. I woke her up at 12:30 yesterday when I found out. Her father and I are working together to try to help her.

I’m spending the day quietly at home trying to hear the Lord.

That’s the theme this month. I need His direction, not my own bright ideas.

I will try to occasionally post info so that we can more effectively pray for the nations:

Bosnia, especially Sarajevo, is a melting pot of cultures. It is called ‘The Jerusalem of Europe’ for this very reason. All of Bosnia is least-reached; estimates suggest there are 500 Jesus followers in the entire country. Of the historical ethnic groups, Bosniaks usually identify as Muslim, Serbs as Orthodox, and Croats as Catholic. However, all of these identities are generally in name only. It is an identity rather than a belief system.

The biggest barrier is the rejection of the name of Jesus. Because of the war, people want to be tolerant and not to fight about God and who He is, but always repeat that He is one, “no matter what we call Him.” We know that Jesus is the only one through whom they can be saved. So when we pray for Bosnia, the spiritual issues of religion and false ‘tolerance’ (they don’t tolerate that we believe that Jesus is the only way) should be broken and that God will reveal Himself to them.

Pray for God to remove spiritual blinders of hopelessness and indifference.

Pray for workers in Bosnia to be relationally relevant. Pray that relationships develop, spiritual conversations take place, and the Gospel is proclaimed.

Pray for cultural barriers to be brought down so that each people group can see the others as a people rather than as a group or an enemy. Pray that Jesus followers can use this to teach true reconciliation to the Father.

Our son-in-law’s father died suddenly in his sleep just before Christmas (and his grandfather died four days later). Marcel flew from the CR to Guatemala on Christmas Eve to be with his family there. My wife and I went up to Prague to support our daughter and grandson while Marcel was away (our daughter had to return to work on Dec 27th).

Please pray for that Guatemalan family in these days…
