🙂 Peter put poor ol’ Purdue in the pillow fight. But I will pick them when I get around to it.
An event yesterday reminded me of something I learned years ago in Annandale.
Your postman knows everything about you.
How does he know? You ask.
By the mail you get from people who want you to send them something.
It tells who you are, and what you do.

Not much mail here. It all comes by email. My good friend has been writing me a note weekly this year, which is much appreciated. However with the way the mail is, I do not receive them weekly and might get three or four in one week and then have to wait a month for the next one. We do purchase simple things from each other and that often goes in our mailbox. Yesterday I got some art materials that someone had been selling. Most of the things that I buy are for my classroom.

Good morning! Another beautiful day in the neighborhood. The sun is shining, the moon is shining, the turkeys are gobbling, the hens are clucking, the roosters are crowing, the goats are baaing, the sheep are maaing, and the children are sleeping.

Morning! That butterfly indeed appears to be made of stained glass…what a capturing of our Lord’s artistry. Is that plant some sort of thistle?
It is a chilly start to the day again with a slight wind blowing the tops of the pines to and fro….but the pollens flying about are doing quite a number on my sinuses….may have to stop in and see what the nurse can do for me…pressure, headache, jaw pain…lots of that going on with folk around here for some reason!
Nikki is a Clemson grad? I really like her 😊

And I am not certain my mail person knows much about me because she cannot seem to get the delivery right..ever! I get my neighbor’s mail and someone else is getting mine. The delivery person apologized to a person a community over saying she just moved here from Michigan and isn’t familiar with our area….I just hope she starts to get it right 🙃 (she could then learn a lot about me!)

Nightingale has a cold. Last night at work, she had a low-grade fever. She’s feeling a bit better today, which is a day off for her, but she is not taking time to nap. She and another lady who works with the Cub Scouts are getting together to work on the scarecrow for their pack.
Oh, I should probably explain about the scarecrows. Our town has a scarecrow contest each year, with various businesses and organizations displaying creative and clever scarecrows, and there is a vote for the best one. Nightingale seems to be doing most of the work on theirs, but she enjoys doing it so she’s fine with that.

The scarecrow contest sounds fun 🙂
It’s cool and overcast here, and so far we haven’t had our early fall, furnace blast of Santa Ana winds, but they still may be coming. I think last year they hit late, giving us our 90-degree Thanksgiving Day.
I’m getting pricing bids on awnings, two companies are coming by Thursday and Friday and I have a list of several more I can call after that. Looking for a price break for something old-school, fixed/fabric cap-style awnings with the black, Spanish-spear mounting poles … But I would like to get it done fairly soon, I want to protect those south-facing wood windows now that they’ve been fixed up, repaired and (soon) painted. It’s the side of the house that really takes a beating from the sun — and moisture caused a lot of the wood damage that had to be repaired in the past few months as the painters prepared to paint.
I’ll need Kim’s advice on awning colors & a new porch light. 🙂
The painting job is getting *close* to being done. But they still need to paint the south side of the house and do all the trim & windows, so plenty of work still ahead.

I love awnings.
I slept until after 7 this morning. I would have slept longer except I had a cramp in my calf and it had me out of bed jiffy quick. Dr. Paul said I needed to eat more bananas. He and Miss Maddie are down for their morning nap. She let me rock her to sleep this morning. I have three bracelets that I wear most days. A silver bangle, a silver Pandora, and a large shaped freshwater pearl. They kept her entertained. She chewed on the Pandora beads. I told her that Grandpa needed to buy her some jewelry.
Tonight, she will be spending the night with us.

Nancy Jill, the butterfly is on teasel. The white flowery parts will fall out, the rest of it will dry and turn brown, and it will stay there all winter. I understand (perhaps incorrectly) that it is called teasel because it was formerly used to tease or comb wool. The plants are basically just pesky weeds, but bees love them and a few butterflies come to them too.

Our teasel is purple. Or lilac. The donkeys and goats love them, as well. And lots of birds. I like them. Artists use them in displays The bumble bees really like them. I try not to mow them when they are flowering as they can be quite loaded with bees.

Our new Bible program involves making brownies. The children were given a choice of getting out the ingredients and leaving them to allow the ingredients to make themselves into brownies or do the combining and baking themselves. They elected to have a designer do the work. Son is beating the eggs, daughter is melting the butter and chocolate.

Visited the PA….she says I have an infection and now I am on antibiotics to help return my sinuses back to normal…..I do believe even a horse could not swallow this pill. I have to cut it in half and try to swallow it with my yogurt….I just am not a good pill taker! 😳

Yeah, we have the purple teasel too. The wildflower books show them as two different species, though to my eye they are identical except the color, so I’m not sure of that. I like the purple ones better, though I don’t really like the dried stalks standing all winter, except when snow is on them.

On taking pills, a friend said to hold your head down so the pills float on top of the water and then swallow. It works but feels awkward.

We drove back from our conference, picked up Miss Bosley from boarding, got her settled, and then went to test drive a car. We bought it last night. It is a used Honda Accord with about 38,000 miles. We don’t have it yet as it had just come in from a lease and needed to be finished to Certified standards. It really is easier to buy a car than a refrigerator!

The conference we attended was at Dillard, GA up in the mountains. It was a beautiful location. I had eaten at the well known Dillard House restaurant ages ago, but I had no idea that it was part of a resort/conference center. I hope we can go there again. Art and I, along with my brother, another preparer and her husband, made up our nice group.

So are the leaves turning colors down in GA yet? How I loved living in the Carolinas in the fall….and of course growing up in Ohio well there is just nothing better than breathing in the scent of fallen leaves….
That dragonfly?appears to be cold…is he wrapping his wings around him to keep warm?!

Nightingale has never been able to swallow pills easily the usual way. For a long time she couldn’t swallow pills at all. A way that she read about (or maybe saw a video about) is to put her head slightly down, turn her head to the side, and then swallow.

I was out enjoying the park, the leaves are turning. The maple and serviceberry are yellow. Ash and maples are turning red And so it continues. Then I played catch with daughter for a while after telling son to quit peeing all over the yard.

That dragonfly was found a month or two ago, not in September. However, I know little about dragonflies (just the basics like how they mate and lay their eggs, and that they’re carnivores) and I don’t know what this one was doing or what species it is or what sex it is. I do think it’s rather cool that you can see its legs through those semi-sheer wings, though.
