Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2017-Week 5

This should be easier to pick than last week. A couple of games are challenges, though. I can’t make them all “gimmes”. Have at it. Get the guesses in by Friday @ 6PM EDT.

  1. #2 Clemson @ #12 Virginia Tech

  2. Ohio @ UMass (Hint: Ohio is 3-1; UMass is 0-5)

  3. Ole Miss @ #1 Bama

  4. Iowa @ Michigan St

  5. #7 Georgia @ Tennessee

  6. Northwestern @ #10 Wisconsin

  7. Air Force @ New Mexico

  8. Colorado @ UCLA

  9. Pillow Fight: Akron 1-3 @ Bowling Green 0-4

10. Tie breaker – Pick the winner and the score: #5 Southern California @ #16 Washington

  1. To be clear, Southern Cal is playing Washington State. All of West Texas likes Washington State, because Mike Leach is the coach.

  2. Oops! I forgot the “St” after the name.

  3. Chas’ flips of the coin says:

    1. Gotta pick the Tigers
    2. Ohio. How can UMass lose 5 games so early in the season?
    3. Bama, of course
    4. Michigan State
    5. Dawgs
    6. Wisconson. Never bet on Northwestern. They recruit scholars.
    7. Air Force
    8. UCLA
    9. Bowling Green
    10 Southern Cal 21-14

  4. Chas- UMass has only won 10 games since moving up to the FBS in 2012. That’s how they are 0-5 now. They were not a bad team in the lower division, usually winning 5 or 6 games each year.

  5. 1. Clemson
    2. Ohio
    3. Bama
    4. Michigan St (Go Spartans!)
    5. Georgia
    6. Wisconsin
    7. Air Force
    8. UCLA (Go Bruins!)
    9. Akron 1-3
    10. Washington State 31-28 (I’ll probably get clobbered but I just can’t bring myself to be nice to those Trojans)

    Mumsee, I love your score.

  6. I hope it’s not too late to get my picks in! My main computer crashed a few days ago and I’m stuck using my phone and a tablet too small to really work on. I’ve left it to the last minute, and don’t have time to properly investigate the campuses of my toss-up picks. So, I guess the prettiness factor will not be weighed in my guesses—I mean carefully thought out choices. :–) Here goes:
    1. Clemson
    2. Ohio
    3. Bama
    4. Michigan St
    5. Georgia
    6. Wisconsin
    7. Air Force
    8. Colorado
    9. Akron
    10. Washington 24-21

  7. rw: I was going to bed, then remembered that I have to do this! I was preparing my picks as you typed…

It looks like I’m on the same wavelength as Debra…

  8. Okay, I’ll let Tychicus in. I set the earlier time because I thought of having the Duke game which started already. So, if anyone else wants to join us, you have until 10:30 EDT, or 3 hours and 3 minutes from now.

  9. I guess I’ll be keeping the Malibu, unless Washington State scores 90 points in the second half. But since USC already has 17, mumsee’s prediction won’t be exact.

  10. Yeah, Kevin. Only 2 points off. I believe that is the closest anyone has ever gotten in this contest. And Mumsee got the farthest anyone has ever gotten- 91 points away! I guess I won’t be driving a 17 year old car to Idaho.

  11. Tychicus, He is tough. I only missed one game and was only 6 total points off on the tie-breaker and he still beat me. That was impressive.

  12. As I said at the start of the season, beginner’s luck. I am a very unlikely candidate to win this thing. But I’ll take it if it comes my way…

  13. Well, Kevin. Take it Awesome performance, by the way. You not only got within 2 points on the tie breaker, but you got 9 correct this time. Let me know what you want for the tie breaker.

Here are the results: Kevin and Rickyweaver 9. Kevin wins on the tie breaker.
    8: Tychicus and Debra
    7: Chas and I
    6: Mumsee, AJ and Janice

  14. If you had included Gamecocks in the mix, I would have been in company with Mumsee, Aj, and Janice.
I really thought they could beat A&M
But they don’t have a running game.

  15. Well, I’m not sure what makes for a good tie-breaker pick, but how about my home state rivalry? Michigan State @ Michigan (#7), here in Ann Arbor.
