Psalm 80:1-7
1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken your might;
come and save us.
3 Restore us, O God;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
4 How long, Lord God Almighty,
will your anger smolder
against the prayers of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears;
you have made them drink tears by the bowl full.
6 You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors,
and our enemies mock us.
7 Restore us, God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
Wandering Views 
Please remember BG in your prayers. She is starting an anti-depressant but it will take a couple of weeks to see a difference. She and I have had a long talk about depression. I have been honest with her about my own struggles. She at least knows I understand.
She is going through a rough patch right now, but I have to let it happen or she will always be waiting for me to fix it. I have wanted to protect her from so much but it has gotten to the point it isn’t doing her any real favor to continue.

6 Arrows: So glad your student accepted the loss with grace. We all learn so much from losing and it is often pushes us to something so much better.

Growing up is hard to do. She’s young enough to learn–unfortunately the hard way–what life is like. There is plenty of growth and hope for her, Kim. From just one day with her, I saw many, many fine qualities. Don’t let her forget it.
Indeed, learning these life lessons on her own under your love and our prayers is a much healthier place that snowflaking it at your expense in college these days. 😦

Mumsee, I pray for Aleppo, but, honestly, I don’t have the faith to go with it. These people are trapped between two evils. There is nothing good that I see in this.

Individual people with individual families and the ability to have individual relationships with our Creator. The children being hurt by the decisions of their parents.

Mumsee, thanks for the reminders to pray for the people of Aleppo.
Kathaleena, very true that losses are often the impetus that bring about great things. This young lady has matured so much in the year and a half I’ve been teaching her. Mom described her as very sensitive when she first called to inquire about piano lessons, and that was definitely true, but she has really blossomed. This “defeat,” after a string of successes with her solo and ensemble competitions the last year (she got all “firsts” — the highest score — in every category she’d entered in saxophone and piano), could have been hard to accept, like it is for some who do extremely well in many areas. They don’t always get a lot of practice dealing with failure or defeat or something that is less than “the best.” She has a good drive to improve herself without abandoning anything that doesn’t achieve instant, superior results.
A great trait to carry into adulthood. I’m proud of her.
