Morning all. Went to an incredible Christmas concert tonight. I was honored to stand while the High School choir sang the Hallelujah Chorus, even though I stood alone. a group of nine sang “Mary Did you Know?” Wow
Good morning.
Yesterday, I chaperoned Becca’s field trip to the zoo. I took four girls and Becca’s teacher in my car (it’s quite a small school and they don’t have busses). It was a pleasure to get to know Becca’s teacher better–she’s a lovely young woman from Scotland. And, I truly enjoy all the girls, so it was a fun day!
Good morning! I love both of those songs, Jo. Sounds like a wonderful concert!
Hi, Chas. I thought of you and Elvera last night, and said a little prayer for you both.
Ann, that sounds like a fun trip!
I’ve got a super busy today out and about today. Bible study and grocery shopping this morning. Home for a quick lunch. Then over to the performance venue for piano practice early this afternoon, and back home to take the kids to the library mid-afternoon before the library closes at 5:00.
Good Morning Everyone. Yesterday was busy. I had to go into the office and when I am there and Guy is there he controls my every move. He and I did go out to lunch yesterday and discussed a few things. Late yesterday afternoon he rolled out my “new” commission structure to which I told him those numbers didn’t work for me.
At some point today I will have do go to the beach to hand out the restaurant flyers. Ugh. I sent out an email yesterday to what an email service company claims is over 90,0000 brokers. Probably less than half that number since is was commercial. Anyway if I reached even 30K with it, it is more likely to stir something up than annoying people at their place of business.
Later I will be sending AJ a photo of all the gifts that were collected for the residents of the Veterans home. Then, I think, the company bought more things for them like soft candies and snacks to have on hand. It really was great to see the outpouring of care for them. They will receive and open their gifts tomorrow. How great is that????
Advent – Day 2: The Advent season is a time not only for remembering Christ’s first coming, but also for looking forward to his second coming. This beautiful Advent hymn was published by Scottish Presbyterian minister John Brownlie in his collection ‘Hymns from the East’. It is set, appropriately, to a tune called ‘Morning Song’.
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light triumphant breaks;
When beauty gilds the eastern hills,
And life to joy awakes.
Not as of old a little child
To bear, and fight, and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun
That lights the morning sky.
O brighter than the rising morn
When He, victorious, rose,
And left the lonesome place of death,
Despite the rage of foes; —
O brighter than that glorious morn
Shall this fair morning be,
When Christ, our King, in beauty comes,
And we his face shall see.
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And earth’s dark night is past;
O haste the rising of that morn,
The day that aye shall last;
And let the endless bliss begin,
By weary saints foretold,
When right shall triumph over wrong,
And truth shall be extolled.
The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light and beauty brings:
Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray,
Come quickly, King of kings.
I made the mistake of having a super strong cup of coffee at around 5 p.m. at work yesterday, hard to go to sleep even by midnight! But I finally managed … Finished my Pearl Harbor story so today I’m off to the crafts fair with my friend, I’m running away from home & the bathroom and all the rest of the mess for a day. 🙂
We were just discussing that yesterday in the home here. Fifteen year old daughter is laughing at the antics of Tom Sawyer and we were talking about how the author was telling it like it was at that time. Not that we should copy it but that we should learn from it. Set it up against Scripture and see what God has to say about racism and the value of all mankind. But it is important to know our history and learn from it so we don’t repeat those mistakes or sins.
There were a large number of writers who wrote about the reality so people would open their eyes and abhor the treatment of fellow image bearers. Harriet Beecher Stowe. Sinclair Lewis.
Kim- What a shame that those students won’t know what life was like for minorities in earlier times. Working at Mark Twain Cave, I have the opportunity to talk to people from all over the world. We sell the books in the gift shop, so I often ask the people if they realize these are the original, unabridged versions, not the sanitized 21st Century editions. All of them realize the importance of using the books to teach their children how to treat blacks is not what is in the books.
A few years ago, a white university professor from somewhere in the South tried to publish a version of Huck Finn in which the word n**** was changed to “slave”. I found it interesting that the loudest protest to that were some black leaders who said things like “slave” is worse than n**** because not all blacks were slaves, and slavery is a worse insult than the other word. And they realized that people spoke that way in the 1830s, and young people today need to see that it’s wrong.
And speaking of Liberal stupidity, here are the Friday funnies. A lot of them deal with the Democrats picking Nancy Pelosi as House Minority Leader again. She’s a good example of why we need term limits.
Mumsee, I have pondered that, too. If they believe what we believe is all hog wash, why would they get so upset? It’s as if they think by changing our opinion that God’s opinion would change.
I took Karen for her first office visit after surgery. Her heart is in good rhythm thanks to her super duper medicine. She used a walker to get to my car, and we used a wheel chair at the doctor’s office. We were at Emory across the street from where I first entered the world.
Yesterday I was so tired from dealing with finding health insurance and then spending an hour and a half in traffic getting home from the office that I ate a bit of spaghetti and went to bed. I woke up at midnight and then went back to sleep around three and then the alarm rang at 5:45 to get moving to make it to Karen’s appointment at 8:00. I feel all out of sync today.
The new insurance will be over 800.00 per month with a high deductible and hardly any up front benefits. I could go with an in state plan with better benefits and a little less costly, but it would not offer much coverage outside of Georgia. I am using the company I have other insurance with. I could tell the agent is almost embarrassed to have to sell such crazy lopsided policies to people. She said she is praying for change.
Well, all was not bad going to the beach to hand out flyers. I targeted 3 restaurants. One restaurant told me they don’t have enough parking where they are and are outgrowing their space, so that was good. The 3rd was nice enough and might be interested.
I got Mr. P another Christmas present and I found a present for BG while I was out.
AND I got to have Greek chicken at Kitty’s Cafe which might be on the top of my list of favorite meals. A flattened chicken breast, fried topped with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, roasted red pepper, feta cheese, tzatziki sauce served with a Greek salad and cold iced tea. Luckily Mr. P went to the movie while I was gone and said he isn’t interested in dinner…he just had popcorn. Not bad for a Friday.
Mumsee – I don’t know if your question about why people care what we think is a sin is about the Fixer Upper couple, but I’m answering as if it is. . .
The belief that gays were “born that way”, that it’s the way God made them (for people who believe in God), has been parroted so often, for so long, that it is now considered a fact, not merely an opinion or theory. It is a fact to those who believe it. It is just taken for granted that it is true.
So to them, saying that homosexuality is a sin, & that gays should not be allowed to marry, is the exact same thing as saying that being black is a sin, & that blacks should not be allowed to marry. They consider anyone who believes as we do to be a hateful bigot.
That is one reason they are so against the idea of Christian bakers or photographers not servicing gay weddings. To them it would be the same as turning away black customers.
A while back, I read an essay by a Christian man which explained that homosexuality is not a choice, in the way we think of choice, but is an inclination that begins young. That’s why most homosexuals will say they were born gay, that they always felt that way.
Given the right teaching & guidance, & having a relationship with God through Jesus can help a young man or woman choose to not follow that inclination, but without those, it feels natural for them to follow it, it feels like “who they are”.
While typing this, I found that piece in my saved articles, if anyone is interested in reading it. He had a brief series on the subject of homosexuality, & I believe he handled it very sensitively & rationally. . .

Throwing the books out because they show racism is bizarre. Teaching them is good.

Why do nonbelievers worry about what we believe is a sin? If they believe there is no God, how can they be concerned with being separated from Him?
