Prayer Requests 11-23-16

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia, and for Ajisuun as well.

Anyone else?

Psalm 54

Save me, O God, by your name;
    vindicate me by your might.
Hear my prayer, O God;
    listen to the words of my mouth.

Arrogant foes are attacking me;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    people without regard for God.

Surely God is my help;
    the Lord is the one who sustains me.

Let evil recoil on those who slander me;
    in your faithfulness destroy them.

I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you;
    I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good.
You have delivered me from all my troubles,
    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

  1. Please pray for my friend L. She went Monday for tests and the machine was not working properly so she is going back today. She jokingly calls it “being wateboarded”. They will be forcing fluids through her system to see if everything is starting to work properly.

  2. I do not like doctor stuff.

    Prayer for here as we continue to work our way through childhood at various stages. Hard to believe that a boy who absolutely hates to write would get himself expelled for writing. Fifteen year old daughter is in bliss with fifteen year old son home, which makes my life a bit flavorful. Haven’t heard from nineteen year old since her last call after the accident. Presume all is well and they have come up with a plan. Or they are still sitting on the side of the road five hours from here, watching the grizzly bears get ready to hibernate.

    On another good note, seventeen year old (the one who’s car was totaled) gave a speech Monday and a girl laughed, he lost his place and got a D. This is good. He is one of those mini gods schools have, where all the teachers love him, all of the students adore him, and all the little guys live for a word from him. Anyway, the teacher had admonished the class not to talk or make noise during the speeches. He, with his history, froze. He got a D. But there are second chances. He was not going to take it but decided at the last minute to write a new speech and give it. Without referring to his notes, he was able to give an excellent speech on the topic:your pet peeve. He spoke about how important it is to let others give their speeches without heckling. The whole class was dead silent and somber. Message given. And he learned that a person passionate about something does better with that speech than with one they don’t care about. He got an A and continues with his 3.8.

    Anyway, prayer for us and our interactions with the school and with each other. Pray for the out of the nesters as they find their feet. Pray for nineteen year old who has been driving all over the West and has now asserted she will never drive again. Thanks.

  3. Mr X is supposed to be back in court today.

    Nightingale does not believe that he will learn anything from this, even if he has to go to jail for a time, because he doesn’t think he did anything wrong. (She is expecting he will get probation, if anything.)

  4. My father-in-law is in the hospital, in ER and waiting for a room. He’s almost 80. This is the summary as my husband sent it to our church prayer request line: “A short while ago I received a call from my sister. My dad got up this morning with very high blood pressure and vomiting. Too weak to walk, they put him in a wheelchair to get him to the car and drove him the short distance to the hospital where the doctors are doing a battery of tests. As he is being admitted, tomorrow may be an unusual Thanksgiving for us. We would appreciate your prayers.”

    He has lots of things physically wrong with him, but with 61 years of marriage (both of them teens when they married), Mom has spent her whole life with him, and this isn’t set up to be a very “happy holiday.”

  5. Prayers for everyone.

    I also learned that a journalism acquaintance — who had been in a convalescent home recently for Parkinson’s — passed away. I tried sharing the gospel a couple times with him and don’t know if he was a believer or not. Last time I saw him — can’t remember what I said, but it was something about Jesus — he had a strange look on his face, like something may have hit home. But I don’t know.

    He had a hard life, lost his wife at a very young age to breast cancer after only being married for a few years, no kids, he had a lifelong struggle with clinical depression issues — and he was alienated in more recent years from his brother and sister-in-law who were handling his care. No services were (or will be) held. 😦 A very talented writer and painter both.

    I’m sorry I wasn’t more faithful in visiting him over the past year. 😦

  6. Last I heard, my father-in-law was expected to be “settled” in a room by about 3:00 (I think he was going to be in there before that, but maybe would be taking a nap or something . . . we were encouraged to wait till 3:00 to come). Not knowing how the rest of this day will go, my husband thought maybe he might want a nap, and I told him that was a good idea. So far the hospital hadn’t found anything “unusual for him,” but they’re going to keep him and observe him and see what they figure out. And I understand Thanksgiving dinner is still on, since some of the guests aren’t family and they don’t have anywhere else to go. I’m guessing we may end up eating in shifts, since I can’t imagine my mother-in-law will want Dad to be left alone during the day . . . but I guess this is a “play it by ear” holiday.

  7. Please say a prayer for one of my agents. I listed a property for him so that he could settle his dad’s estate. They would like to have this taken care of by year’s end and we just got an offer. He is one of the good ones and I told you about the funeral when I attended it.

  8. Mr X finally decided to accept a plea deal. He plead guilty to threatening, with the other charges (child endangerment & disorderly conduct, or something like that) dropped. He was sentenced to probation (Nightingale thinks for a year), & has to cooperate with a couple programs.

    Unfortunately, although the protective order is still in effect for Nightingale, the one for Little Guy has been ended. Mr X can see Little Guy, but can only contact Nightingale through a third party, like his mom or us. (So we guess his visits with LG will involve Mr X’s mom having to pick him up, since Mr X probably can’t come to our home.)

    Mr X’s mom will be picking Little Guy up tomorrow afternoon for some time with Mr X at her house. LG says he is scared to see his dad again. Nightingale is very disappointed about the protective order for LG being dropped, & so are we.

    It’s not that we think he would hurt Little Guy physically, but we know how manipulative & emotionally abusive he can be.
