Prayer Requests 11-22-16

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 53

The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

God looks down from heaven
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
    any who seek God.
Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt;
    there is no one who does good,
    not even one.

Do all these evildoers know nothing?

They devour my people as though eating bread;
    they never call on God.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
    you put them to shame, for God despised them.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When God restores his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

  1. I’ll repeat this today since I posted it so late yesterday.

    One of my best college friends and his wife recently learned that she has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a devastating brain disease that causes dementia and motor problems. There is no cure and it is invariably fatal, usually within months after symptoms start. Please remember Pamela and Dave. Both are believers.

  2. Praying with you. It will be interesting to meet them later and hear their stories of what God has done.

    Continuing to pray for you and your loved ones as time goes on without the beloved mom in your presence.

  3. Thanks, Mumsee. We were going to do something quite different from usual for Thanksgiving this year. My daughter said, “Grandma’s going to be gone, that’s different enough, can’t we at least have the rest of Thanksgiving be the same?” And we all realized that’s what we needed so we changed plans to go back to our usual Thanksgiving rituals. The holidays will certainly be different this year without Mom.

  4. I believe it will be a time of tears and laughter. “They” say you should not make major changes in the first year after a major event and I suspect it is true. She will be missed but the memories of her help to round you all out and bring you together.

  5. Somehow, when one is missing, it makes the others draw closer together in recognition that time is passing and we are all susceptible to physical death and absence from the table.

    When my son was born, my older childless cousin died leaving his wife. My father had died while I was pregnant with son, so we gained one and lost two late in ’88 and mid ’89. We have continued losing people since then with no replacements so far. Things get quieter, but the reason for the feast is still to honor God with thanks. That is what those who have passed would want you to be doing in their absence. Give God extra thanks to make up for the absent voices ❤

  6. Mr. P and I went to lunch. From there we walked next door to an antique store and were browsing. The salesman was talking and laughing with us. He asked if we had mimosas (champagne and orange juice) for breakfast. “Nope, we are always this way”.

    Moral of the story: Seasons happen in a marriage just like in the world. “All sunshine and no rain makes a desert”. Today is good. Who knows about tomorrow.

  7. Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD) is a very unusual diseases that, unlike other disease due to parasites, bacteria, or viruses, is caused by rogue proteins called prions. It has a case occurrence of one in a million. An even rarer variant form of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease is vCJD, which was carelessly referred to as mad cow disease a few years ago and comes from infection through contact with the infected nervous tissue of animals with the disease (sheep and deer as well as cattle may carry the prions). However, Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease usually occurs spontaneously or is inherited.

  8. Prayers for nineteen year old daughter. She just called. She and some friends were headed down to Colorado for a graduation. Everybody is fine but the truck ahead of them hit a deer and the body of the deer came around and hit them. Totaled the car. Not saying much as it isn’t much of a car. But she borrowed it from her brother, the seventeen year old. She is known for accidents and speeding and such. She is an emotional mess. He will forgive her, of course. Even though he just got new tires on it less than a week ago. But she has always struggled with control and this was not her plan she is about on hysteria. I can not just jump in the car and go rescue her. Prayer for comfort for her and the other three, and wisdom on how to get home or on with their trip.
