Morning all. So nice to see an Autumn scene in the header.
Well I’d better get to work as I have thousands of dollars of a Scholastic book order to organize.
My head is swimming already.
Chas is married to an old woman!
The Sweetest Woman in the Whole Wide World is 85 today.
That happens if you keep them long enough.
She and I are in excellent physical condition. She is gradually losing it mentally. I told you all this before. She really depends on me for most things.
But she has fixed breakfast and I need to get to it.
They moved my mom to the rehab floor last night. My brother, the attorney, fought long and hard with Humana to have her approved for this facility…. It’s supposed to be very good. She’ll be here for three to four weeks….
Glad to hear your mother will be in an excellent place, Ann, to get her moving again. Facilities and caring employees can make a world of difference.
Karen is in for her surgery this morning. She said D would call and let me know when she is out. I will see her later in the week when others can’t be there.
Art has a medical appointment this a.m. I told him he needs to get his flu shot while there. The flu is already here in Atlanta.
Know Chas, all things considered she is lucky to have made it to her 80’s in good mental and physical health. I know you and therefore we worry about her cognitive abilities but look how long she had them. My grandmother had 12 children and 20-something grandchildren and I don’t know how many greats. After she slipped into dementia in her 80’s nothing made her happier than for one of us to stop by and let her rock a baby. You are lucky that Elvera has maintained her sweet disposition. Happy Birthday to her.
Ann, I am so glad to hear that your mother will remain in the hospital for a while longer. I am sad to hear that it took at son being an attorney to fight to get her the care she needs. While she is lucky it sheds light on those who don’t have an advocate.
Me? What did I do last night? Well, I hosted a “girl party”. I really didn’t get started on the food until after 5 yesterday, so I was twitterpated getting it all together, I had bought pizza dough at a local pizza place, and made a bacon, onion, pear, and bleu cheese pizza to serve. As I was cleaning up I realized I forgot to put the thyme, hone, and arugula on it. Oh, well, it was good anyway and several people asked for the recipe. I am not sure what I am going to do with all the arugula I have in the refrigerator. 😉
Happy Birthday Elvera!! ❤
Thanks for updating us on you Mom Ann…and I am blessed to know your brother fought for your Mom's needed care…rehabs can be a nightmare when it come to care…or lack thereof….we had my Dad out of such a place within four hours of his placement…it was awful…hug your brother….
Happy Birthday to Elvera! Hope you both have a quiet, blessed day that doesn’t involve working outside with a chain saw. 🙂
I dumped another bucket of water on the free LA city tree that workers planted in my front yard a couple weeks ago. It’s been turning brown (and not because it’s fall) for several days now. The ones given to neighbors up and down the street are doing the same thing.
Ann, good to hear the update on your mom.
My friend Carol is very distraught in the rehab she’s in and is threatening to leave against medical advice today (although I think today is her last day anyway so I’m hoping they’ll be able to convince her to at least finish up that final round of antibiotics she needs to get). She’s basically destitute so she has to take what she can by way of these places.
Still, she was in this one before, maybe a year ago, for a while and seemed to like it then, she even suggested staying there permanently (I convinced her not to do that, she shouldn’t go into a full-time convalescent type place until she really *has* to).
I expect to be working mostly from home today, I’m covering by phone (you dial in to listen) an LA council committee meeting that will taking up the coyote discussion again, could be not much of a story but you never know. They seem still on track to continue their long-standing ban against any and all lethal responses so their sole focus is on how to educate everyone better. 🙂
Then the window people are coming over for final measurements sometime between 2 and 4 p.m. so I have to be here for that. I’ll just work on other stories through the afternoon.
Meeting is over, the city is standing firm, they believe coyote incidents are being over-reported now due to social media. I tend to think they have long been under-reported and maybe still are, but that’s me.
Interesting as no one brought up the recent human attacks nearby within the past month or two. Not a word about those, which I found curious.
There were pledges to hold more community education meetings, however, and lots of talk on “best practices” approved by animal rights groups. 🙂 The discussion was conducted in a distinctly one-sided vacuum, in other words, but that’s consistent with prior meetings.
Karen is out of surgery. Her husband and daughter have not seen her yet. Her heart rhythm is normal. I am hearing from the daughter by text. I did not have either number, only Karen’s number because I lost that other phone with all my contact info. So I was really wanting to hear something. Finally I checked my text and found I had received two updates after the first procedure this morning.
I am thankful to at least know she made it out of surgery.
Roasting here, the window measurement tech came and went and I filed my main story, but still have another short couple things to do.
Meanwhile, this was the latest product pitch I received in my reporter’s email inbox:

October is National Pet Wellness Month and as pet owners know there’s not much else that’s important than the health of our beloved pets. Active Edge has created the ideal gift for dogs that could be the key to getting them up and active and enhance their overall well-being. The Active Edge dog collar consists of fabric that is infused and embedded with electromagnetic frequencies that assist with sleep, anti-inflammation and overall performance. The stylish collars come in five sizes and either blue or pink.
Would you be interested in learning more about the dog collar that can make your dog feel years younger while wearing it?

Don’t know about my dogs, but I might want to try one out.
Elvera read the “Happy Birthdays” you all sent.
Chuck & Linda took us to dinner and had birthday sweet muffins for her cake.
She also got some presents.
It was a nice day.
After and in between filing my stories from home I’ve been trying clear through some of the chaos that now is my house. 😦 Awful. Depressing.
And I have to sit in on candidate interviews tomorrow and Friday mornings at one of our sister papers (editorial board runs these but they usually invite the reporter who’s been covering the race to sit in, ask questions if they like, take notes).
Meanwhile, Carol is suddenly bouncing back, they changed her room and she’s happy again, but is getting insistent for me to visit her on Saturday. I have so many things I want to get to on Saturday, it’s really my only free day in the week, but I know she’s been lonesome and really doesn’t get other visitors.
I have a grandson sleeping on my living room floor. 🙂
Nightingale is going to get a baby monitor so she can get him to sleep upstairs when she goes out late, & I’ll be able to hear him if he cries (which he still does now & then). Since we don’t have that yet, he is sleeping down here where I can hear him.
When she works second shift, Chickadee is here, so she hears him if he cries. (Then Hubby drops her off at the McK’s on his way to work around 1am.)
Speaking of sleeping, it is time for me to be doing that soon.
Carol, I know, doesn’t understand things from my perspective — working all week and having only the weekend (Saturday really, with Sunday for rest after church) to take care of my own things. She’s been out of the work world for many years now and no doubt feels bored, every day kind of the same, so she really looks forward to a visit and an outing come Saturday. I’m hoping others from the church she’s attending will pick up on that again soon. She has been getting to the Wednesday women’s Bible study there, but seldom (at least lately) makes it to Sunday services for some reason.

If everyone got educated about coyotes, they would kill them all..

Birds are singing and there is a glimpse of blue through the clouds. Temperatures in the 60’s and will warm up later. Beautiful here.
