    I agree that God is in charge. However, I have to vote according to the circumstances we’re given. Ideally, given the scenario we have, Hillary would get elected, then die just after inauguration and Tim Kane would be president. We could live with him. But I don’t see that happening.

    I have to vote according to what we are given. I don’t like Trump. I don’t think he will be a good president. But he is as qualified as Obama was. (I proved, in 2008, that I was more qualified than Obama.) And:
    Trump doesn’t think the Iranians are our friends.
    He doesn’t think the police are our enemies.
    He isn’t Hillary.

  11. Oh Jo, I’m feeling your frustration reading your posts — hope things will look better in the morning. Hard to believe there isn’t time for a quick discussion on something that’s important.

    I will never be a morning person, although I naturally get up earlier now than I used to. But the only time I’m up early enough to watch the sun come up is if I’m stressed & worried about something, so those aren’t good times!

    I just amended my Salvation Army order pickup for Tuesday. Originally I had it for the 22nd — but that was because my head was running a week early, I kept thinking the 22nd was this coming Monday.

    I have two bags ready to go, only a few more to complete the 6 bags I put down for the order (though I can amend that also if I don’t wind up with that many). So I made progress yesterday, but not as much as I’d planned, of course.

    Today it’s off to the beautiful and always-scathing-hot San Fernando Valley for a day bopping around with my teacher friend & former roomie. You can watch the temperature read out in the Jeep rise (sometimes by as much as 10-15 degrees) as you pass through those hills near Hollywood & and then head down-down-down on the other side into the valley. I don’t know how people live there being so hot, but they all have A/C and get used to it somehow.

    In answer to your question last night…….

    The answer was in 2 of the photos. The King St. bus and the 2nd boat pic, which was the Alexandria National Harbor Water Taxi.

    I figured someone would get it. Yesterday’s and today’s are all from Alexandria, VA.

  14. AJ, I figured, too, that someone might know landmarks–like Kim recognized the Alabama one. I myself didn’t, and no one volunteered what they were, so I finally asked.

  15. Latest comment on on of the coyote fb threads (after someone suggested God created man and woman to have dominion over the earth):

    “There is no God and earth does not belong to humans”

    And it’s probably a statement many agree with, though they may not voice it as this person did.

    It’s the foundational belief, really, of the ‘animals first’ arguments when you get right down to it.

    It’s all theology. And everyone’s a theologian (but not always a very good one).

  24. Hey, anyone want to help me choose photos to enter in the fair? I don’t know what the maximum is for entries per person, but I’m looking at entering two 8 x 10s and maybe four 5 x 7s. Well, obviously I don’t print all the photos I take, and I only print my favorites as 5 x 7 or larger . . . but I still have about 50 I really like. I’ve narrowed it down to three in the 8 x 10s, so that’s rather an easy one (two out of three), but I only need about one in ten of the 5 x 7’s.

    I’ve put them together in an online photo book (with zero attention to design, but with each photo numbered a brief description of its subject matter. I have paired like photos together–all three male cardinal photos on the same page–so that people can choose just one. If you have my e-mail address and you’d like to see a larger copy of a specific photo, just let me know. Unfortunately I do not yet have the original photos on my computer, just these photos of matted photos; I’d wanted to replace a couple that didn’t come out very clear, but I can’t, but I think most of them are decently clear.

Initially I planned to mat my favorites and then ask my family to look through and tell me what they think . . . but having people flip through 50 matted prints and keep track of which they liked seemed like a lot, so I decided to put them online, group them, and number them, and then maybe have my family look at the top 20 or so.

  26. I like 7, 22, 26,29,33,43,45 I went with initial reaction. Sometimes that is the best. I jotted down the numbers I liked the first time through then went back and selected these.

    I like 12 because you captured the fluttering of the wings and 14 because you caught the bird just before it took flight

  30. No one can make a mess as well as I can.

    I decided that I would butcher some chickens this morning and almost burnt down my gazebo/grape arbor. I got the bright idea that if I was going to build a fire to scald the chickens, I might as well burn some weeds while the water got hot. I have some pesky horehound that I am trying to eradicate growing inside the gazebo area. I put a quick torch to them and moved on. About 10 min later I looked back to see flames and smoke coming from the center pole. I put it out…but it took a while.

    On the bright side, I did do up 8 pullets.

  33. I mean six photos have been chosen by two people each–and since each person chose just seven or eight total, that’s a pretty signficant overlap, though a pool of three people is probably not statistically significant.

  37. I have always wondered how they did capons. Something to clip under the wings and through the ribs. I would have to be shown by an expert.

    They reintroduced wolves in the Gila Wilderness in NM. Now school children have to wait for the bus in a cage like building to keep them safe. They used the excuse that the deer and elk population needed controlling. Why they did not just sell a few more hunting licenses I do not know. The hunting would have generated income for numerous people. The reintroduction costs us all money.

    Is Mr. P willing to videotape you putting the big black cat in a box to send it? Because that’s a Youtube video that would be worth seeing (assuming no one got seriously injured in the making of the video, yada yada).

Thanks, Kizzie. 🙂 So far, three have gotten at least three votes: #3, a bluebird with berries taken through our hotel window on our last anniversary trip; #14, a flicker taking off from our back fence (I had the camera on action mode and got a series of three shots, including one with his wing fully spread as he took off); and #17, the sky full of red-winged blackbirds as they took off from my neighbor’s yard. All of those bird photos. Several others have two votes, and I think I’ll show all the two-or-more-vote entries to my husband and have him help me narrow them down further. (He has an artistic eye, but I didn’t want to give him all fifty, just twelve or fifteen.)

  49. Cheryl, I clicked on your link and think all the photos are really good. On this tablet, even with my reading glasses, I can not see the numbers. But my favorites tend to be the more closeups of one rather than a group of several (in general) unless the group is caught doing something out of the ordinary like a food fight. Well maybe that is pretty ordinary for animals.

  61. Having Bundaberg Ginger Beer to relax after a long day. The principal even called me into her office to ask what was wrong, how do I tell her??
    I found that the Bundaberg ginger beer was available in the states. It is my favorite soft drink. You all should try it. Yes, soft drink, as in non alcoholic.
