  1. OK, not really — I saw Chas was just over on yesterday’s daily thread.

It’s Friday! Shredder-shopping day for me today!

I’m also going to see if I can find myself an outfit or two that is between church-dressy and home-what-would-you-call-it? Blah?

I have few clothes that are good for wearing when giving piano lessons, going somewhere sort of nice, etc.

What will be going on for your Friday?

    Have a good one! Blessings.

  2. It’s Friday!
    You know what that means/

    I don’t know.
I just got an e-mail saying the house I lived in for fifteen years has a radon problem.
I’m having to replace windows in that house because they are double payne and the seal is broken.
I hope I can break even on this deal.
Does anyone know where you can borrow money to sell a house?
    What collateral could I use?

Nobody cared about radon when I bought that house.

  3. Good morning. Scott’s on a fishing trip until late Sunday. A few of his good buddies splurged for a guide today–it’s his belated fiftieth birthday gift from them. I’m hoping they get lots of Redfish, as they are my favorite, but Trout are supposed to be plentiful right now too.

  4. Good Morning! AJ that photo is breathtakingly beautiful!!
It’s supposed to be 91 in town today…that’s where I will be…working…hoping the air conditioner is working at the shoppe…last week one of the units was not working…..
When we purchased this home 6 years ago, the previous homeowners had in place radon mitigation…a dumb pole placed right smack dab in the middle of where we want to put in a bedroom in the basement…and a dog ugly gauge on the wall in my laundry room. Now mind you none of my neighbor’s have radon mitigation…and by the way…we unplugged the unit…it’s loud and annoying. Paul (who is now retired!) will be slowly finishing the basement…and tackling the radon pipes down there! And there were three windows in this house that had broken seals…we got them fixed later…we didn’t require the previous homeowner to do that……
Hope your sweetie brings home lots of fish for you Ann…time for a fish fry in Texas!! 🙂

  5. Today is mowing day. It cooled off last night, so that will make it less unpleasant. The FHA inspector/appraiser is due around 11. I hope we did all she said we needed to.

  6. My husband likes to remind me we also got ____________ years of living in the house in addition to breaking even. But it can be frustrating.

Here in CA the numbers are so huge, everything better be right with the house. Median price in my count? $625K. Impossible to find rentals and anything under $300K is snatched up immediately–and is usually a townhouse/condo if you can find one over 30 years old.

  7. it’s called CYA…Cover Your____.
They HAVE to find something so the buyer feels they got their money’s worth. I almost lost a $240K sale because the model of dishwasher had a recall on it from 2007 that using liquid dishwasher detergent MIGHT cause fire. The house was built in 2013. I am sure whatever was recalled in 2007 was fixed by 2013 but my buyer was a Nervous Nellie.

  8. Beautiful header, cutie-pie critter.

What’s radon? Do I have it?

All I know is that the inspector signed off on the house I bought (in the spring) and then, in the fall, when I called the Gas Co. to turn on the pilot for the wall heater, I was told it was unsafe and couldn’t be used.

I called someplace that was supposed to fix anything that went wrong after I moved in and they said, oh, we don’t cover heaters. What? Isn’t that kind of a big deal?

Gas Co. said it had been “rebuilt” over the years, but not with the exactly correct parts.

    Grumble grumble.

So I had to get the trash out when I got up then I hit the shower this morning, have the world markets crashed yet after yesterday’s somewhat surprising UK vote?

  9. Kim, I just used my DSW reward certificate to buy the navy Bernie Mev shoes because they are not so high as the black and white ones. It’s been a long time since I have owned navy shoes. I have a few things they will go nicely with that I have always felt not quite right wearing other colors with, like the outfit I have on in my gravitar (blue), and navy will go better than what I have worn with it all these years.

  10. I just turned on the air conditioning. It was 88 downstairs last night. It’s suppose to be 97 tomorrow with the heat index even higher. I suppose this means that Miss Bosley will want to have more cuddle time.

  11. Plan B on the shredder business. Hubby changed his mind and decided the papers we don’t need anymore can just be put in the wood boiler a little at a time.

OK — saved some money on that deal. 😉

Now we’ll see if all the paper is gone by Christmas. 😀

  12. I think the meet-up is Kim and Michelle.

The inspector found two minor painting issues that were supposed to be on the report we got but were left off. Such incompetence to send the realtor pictures and descriptions of what needs done, but leave some things off. Our realtor is getting ready to retire and says she will no longer do anything but conventional loans.

  13. Most of my shoes are navy. I used to be able to get navy shoe polish, but no more. Therefore, my shoes are starting to look not so great. Hope they come out with blue again ASAP. I will have to check out DSW to see if I can find something in navy again. For a long time, there was nothing in that color. I have a lot of clothes that works well with navy.

I went to a favorite aunt’s funeral today. She was so ready to die. My uncle is so sad, but said watching her in pain was so difficult. They were married 63 years, so the grief will be great for him. He said he hopes he will be with her in heaven. I told him to trust in Jesus, because that is why He came. He said he has been praying and praying. He is Catholic and, of course, they spent time at the funeral to ‘pray my aunt into heaven.’ I sure wished he realized that we don’t need to do that and he can know he will go to heaven by trusting in Christ’s salvation.

  14. I’ve got my prospective student’s mini-lesson planned now for when I meet her on Monday. Always a little tricky, determining what repertoire, sightreading, etc. to pull out to go over with students who have studied previously. She’ll play a piece of her choosing for me, then I will do some ear training exercises, technique, rhythm and sightreading to assess where about she’s at in those areas.

Then I’ll teach her a short piece that I’ve picked out, hoping it’s at a fairly similar level to her present repertoire. I got some ideas from talking to her mom on the phone, but you never know until you actually hear them play how they’re interpreting what’s on the written page, and what their musical skills and needs are.

I’ll have to think on my feet if her reading ability is quite different than I’m guessing it is, and pull out some other music to do instead.

An interesting challenge, but one I rather enjoy. I had fun playing through a number of different pieces today that can stand in as substitutes (both more and less advanced) for what I picked out, if needed.

Then we’ll end with some improvising. There is a neat duet part to one piece I have, which is mostly on the black keys, so I’ll have the student improvise on the upper black keys while I play in the middle/lower range. I’ll probably start doing a little improvising/embellishing on my part, too, after a while. Kind of a fun way to end what is often a solitary activity (playing piano), wrapping it up with making some music together. 🙂

  15. I have been enjoying the air conditioning this afternoon. Also, I have finished a book for review, The Forgiveness Project, written by Michael S. Barry, who is Director of Pastoral Care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia. It is such an important look at how harboring unforgiveness can be detrimental to the immune system. Again, I found a passage I read in my Bible this a.m. about Paul and the thorn in the flesh to be prominent in the book as the last Bible verse quoted at the end of the book.

The book also quotes Andre Seu at one point and also R.C. Sproul so I felt at home in this book.

I loved this quote near the beginning of the book, “Attachment to a hurt arising from a past event blocks the inflow of hope.” St. John of the Cross, A Sixteenth-Century Carmelite Mystic

  16. We turned off the a/c since it was supposed to be lower humidity and temps in the mid 80s. It got up to 88 and doesn’t feel so dry. Oh, well. A/c goes on tomorrow (94 for a high).

  17. Another VBS in the books; highly successful–2400 objects for the children’s love boxes handed out to homeless children through Catholic Charities. The woman in charge is in my Zumba class and tells me all the time how much she loves our church.

My husband thoroughly enjoyed himself, though he is exhausted today–and still has to work this afternoon. Final meeting of the week (all done over the Internet) for him at 4 and then he’ll collapse.

    Movie and simple food tonight!

    Busy party weekend, but fun.

We’re dog sitting again which should shut up the cat for nearly a week and allow me to sleep past 5:45 . . .

  18. Janice, 6:18, thanks. I am very much looking forward to that improvisation session with her (and the other things we’ll be doing, too). Not to mention meeting her and talking music. In addition to piano, she plays trombone and guitar, and is in her audition-only high school a cappella vocal ensemble.

In the 2014-2015 school year, that vocal ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall, one of only seven schools in the U.S. to be accepted. I don’t know if she was a member of the ensemble yet at that point, but just to be able to make it into a group of that caliber (only 16 students out of maybe 400-500 kids in the school are selected) is quite exciting.

They have a YouTube channel, I just discovered now, so I looked at some of their videos from this past year, wondering which one of those singers it is I’m meeting on Monday. 😉

  19. Big paper-burning project begins (s-l-o-w-l-y) tomorrow. Can’t wait to get the whole house like my bedroom is now — uncluttered. It stayed that way a whole week, or however long it’s been. Wow.
