Elphaba (she’s the silver one, I’ve posted her pic before, when her hair was longer) has a new little sister. Her name is Sophie.

  4. Good morning! No lazy bones here! I had one yard waste bag left that I could fill up, so I was out there in the piles filling that bag and pulling more vines. I saw neighbors I never see getting their garbage cans out to the street. I was afraid I would scare them with my unexpected presence, as in, who is that crazy lady out before good light doing yard work. All my containers are full so the rest of the piles wait in anticipation of their ride on the garbage truck. I did not get to mow on Saturday as I had planned.

  5. The doggies are adorable and go right along with what I wanted to post. Sometime this morning or yesterday while in deep conversation with Miss Bosley, I told her that cat’s talk in meows but only people sing. We were near her food bowl where she always becomes quite exuberant with her talk.

    Just before I got onto the blog, I was reading my Bible aloud so Miss Bosley could hear it (you never know), and I was reading in Revelation 5 according to the Jesus Centered Bible (NLT) reading plan for today’s reading. Verse 13 says, “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and power belong
    to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” I was thrilled to tell Miss Bosley that she might possibly sing one day! I never paid attention to that verse before like that. Father God is so loving!♡ How could anyone not love Him, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit?

  11. Chas, sounds like she is doing much better. Aren’t we glad to be living in the days of antibiotics. What? Living in the days of against life? What??? But it is nice to have such quick fixes.

  12. Sorry for all you are facing right now, Chas. Praying for all the wisdom, patience and help you need. So much of our work ‘done unto the Lord’ is somewhat invisible. It isn’t to the One who really matters, though.

  18. You have enough going on to keep you busy, Chas. 🙂 So glad to hear she’s eating and drinking and will be checking in with her GP today.

    I guess Kim was yelling at me at the top of the thread, I was asleep by 9:30 last night and didn’t get up until 7:30 this morning. Wonderful! I was very sleepy yesterday (didn’t sleep great Saturday night), but I resisted taking a nap after church. So I was out like a light early last night.

    Today I have to sit in on one of the editorial board candidate interviews for a state assembly race I’m also supposed to cover for the June 7 primary. I know the candidate, he’s been around for a long time — I even covered his first run for political office, back in the mid- or late-1980s when he ran for LA school board. Yikes. He’s held some kind of city or statewide office ever since.

    I twisted my back on Saturday and have been having spasms ever since…lots of heating pad time last night and this morning….I guess that Trader Joe's bag I slung over my shoulder was a tad bit heavier than I thought it would be….I'm not quite use to this getting older stuff yet….

I was talking with one of our new church members yesterday (she was waiting to be interviewed by the elders) and was surprised to hear that she’d attended (only for a short time, she said she found it to be too strict) my former church that had started to become so restrictive (which is why many of us transferred out 10+ years ago).

    When she was there, she told me they had the men and women sitting on different sides of the church for prayer time and that women weren’t to pray aloud. I hadn’t heard that before.

    Anyway, after nearly shutting down, the church is now under our care (same denomination) with a new, young pastor (our former ministerial intern) and reportedly is doing well 🙂 Loved that little church, but when our much-loved, long-time pastor retired and it took for-EVER for the (extremely conservative) elders to call a new one, things went south very quickly, unfortunately.

  24. I do not do well under legalism. I hate that for your former church Donna. My priest chooses to use women for the Easter morning service, saying that women were the first to the empty tomb to spread the word that He wasn’t there.

    Both of those dogs are already dogs. Their puppy days are long gone, both are around 3 years old. That’s as big as they’ll get. Both my cats are bigger than they are, even Mouse.

    And so you know, Mouse and Nosey would roll those two like the cat toys that they are. 🙂

  27. Our new pastor seems to be a solid guy and is good to listen to. He speaks well and clearly loves God and the people. We will be learning from him and probably be maneuvered into doing things. That is good. He is older and this will probably be his last church though we dragged him out of retirement so I suspect he thought the last one was the last one. He still is not here with his wife, just pops in now and again. Eight year old again asked to be baptized and sounds like he will get right on it when he is back. He will want to talk to her first but the elders did not really have much enthusiasm for it, not knowing their responsibilities and all. So it looks like it may move forward this time.

  32. Chas, but she is on antibiotics and with that and fluid, she’s doing better, right?

    A number of years ago I went to the doctor with a possible UTI (I didn’t think I had one, but I knew something was wrong) and that test came back negative, but elevated white blood cells showed them I had an infection of some kind. Antibiotics wiped it out, so I don’t care that I never did find out “what” it was. Of course Elvera’s case is more complicated since she is older and has other issues, but it would seem that if the treatment is working, sometimes that’s “enough.”

  34. God sent just the friend I needed to talk through the stress last night. She is only here for two weeks. We had dinner together, talked and prayed. Just what I needed. Blessed

  35. AJ, I figured it was a grown-up dog of puppy size. I was just kind of joking about all the photos people post of “look at my new kitten!” and it’s like “yeah, I know it’s cute, but when all is said and done do you realize you signed up to care for a cat?” I’d far rather deal with a year of nuisance (and some cuteness) and get a dog than a year of cuteness followed by a cat.

    We’re staying at a B&B on the bay, lounging in Adirondack chairs on the deck, listening to the sea birds. Charming.

  37. That sounds about right, Michelle.

    What does one do at your house when the eight year old leaves the brand new one and a half gallons of HE laundry detergent too close to the edge of the washer while she is doing her laundry, it falls off and spills the entire contents onto the two foot by three foot floor of the laundry room? And there is not another container of detergent and the store is an hour away? And your laundry day is tomorrow? Around here, we just put towels down and tomorrow I will throw one in each load and hope for the best..

  38. It has been a frustrating afternoon.
    She is on no antibiotic. She doesn’t need any. She is not “sick”.
    The Dr, as I said, wanted a CT Scan. It was at Laurel Park.
    Just before the CT Scan, they said they didn’t want that. They wanted a MRI.
    They don’t do MRI at Laurel Park. I had to drive up to Park Ridge.
    So. I drove up to Park Ridge and she had her MRI.
    We don’t know the results.
    I, as you can imagine, spent most of the afternoon waiting.

    Chas is tired.
    I need to scrounge up some dinner.

  39. We love you, Chas, you are a tremendous example of a Christ follower to us.
    Elvera loves you and would much rather be up and serving you.
    But most importantly, Chas, the God Who is Love loves you and is with you and is hearing your prayers, even when they are in action rather than words. He is making you more like Him through all of this. May you hold onto Him as He holds you in His Hand.

  41. He was told she at pneumonia, then that it was a UTI, now that it was not. The antibiotics were for the UTI. The hospital stay was for the pneumonia. It has to be terrible confusing. I am so glad they have Chuck and Mary and all of the others.

  42. She didn’t take too much of anything, it turns out.
    Physically, she is OK.
    I’m afraid I don’t have her anymore, though she is in her LazyBoy now.
    I can’t carry on a conversation with her now.
    On the way home, I asked is she would like to stop at McDonalds for a chocolate sundae.
    Usually, she jumps at that. But she said nothing. So we came home.

  45. They do what they can. I call it educated guess work. The human body, though made to a plan, is very complex. And each individual is different.

    Chas, one of the things to help you stay strong is to go ahead and take her for that chocolate sundae. She may have forgotten that she enjoys such things, and for a few minutes, she will enjoy it and it will keep you moving along.

    mumsee, somehow Idaho came up at the dog park (not me!). It seems to be the promised land for more than a few Californians. Someone said some big celebs are now even buying up places just outside of Boise.

    It is good to know that we are not the first believers in the midst of a post-Genesis 3 world. …

  48. Elvera’s doctor called.
    The MRI was normal.
    She doesn’t have an infection.
    There is nothing wrong with her.
    That is both confusing and encouragine.
    Confusing because her actions are not normal.
    Encouraging because all the dangerous things have been eliminated.

    Dr. Says to keep watch and let her know. Possibly Thursday.
    We’ll see.
    Thanks for the prayers. They mean a lot. And I thought about it while I was sitting and waiting all this time.
    p.s. In answer to someone’s comment. Taking something to read didn’t work. I took my Kindle Wednesday but didn’t read it.

  51. I’m so sorry, Chas, for all you are going through. It must be extremely difficult. My heart literally aches for you and I’ve been praying for strength for you intermittently, anytime God brings y’all to mind (which is often). Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated.
    I know how hard it is for me to see my mother so ill and I only lived with her for sixteen years. I imagine it is exponentially more painful with a lifelong, beloved spouse.
    As Mumsee said, you are a beautiful example of a godly man. May you be able to feel the loving arms of our Savior wrapped around you during this time.

  52. I thought the watch read 5:30 a.m., early enough to get up, so I made coffee. Then I found out I had gotten up at 4:30. Art left for work around 5:00. So I am reading the thread and praying along. I am praying God will lift Elvera out of the vacancy of mind and keep her healthy otherwise. Also, I pray for stamina, and more help in the care for Elvera for you, Chas.
