  1. This is one I wasn’t aware of until I started hearing about it in the last few days:

    ________________________________

Republicans, already girding for their most tumultuous convention in decades, now have another fight brewing: a divisive battle over gay marriage on the party’s official national platform.

It’s an issue that drives intense passion, and one that splits the mainstream and evangelical wings of the GOP. With the convention less than four months away, both sides are mobilizing in anticipation of a bitter clash over whether the party should embrace a more moderate approach to gay nuptials, in keeping with a public that is more open to it, or maintain the hard line the party’s base demands. …

  2. THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

    First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petitition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Just where does ObamaCare fit in with it’s mandates?

  3. As for Gay Rights? Which state voted in Gay Marriage? Do courts write and pass laws? Isn’t marriage a combination of civil law and religion? “…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;…”

SCOTUS decided wrongly, as did many State courts.

  4. Our Navy has just intercepted an Iranian ship laden with a boatload of weapons destined for the terrorist rebels in Yemen.

Pres Obama committed to hand over $100B dollars to this country. How can a sitting president be so negligent and traitorous?

This is an excellent example of the expression “aiding and abetting the enemy.”

  5. Yemen is in the middle of a civil war of Syrian proportions. Its a three way conflict between the shia south yemen vs the middle sunni and the northern al-queada. The US supports the sunni middle along with all the arabs yet launches drone strikes in the north. They would be much better off supporting the south and allowing iranian weapons through. The south would take care of al queada whereas the sunni and their saudi allies would not. But old habits in US foreign policy die hard and no matter the party the saudis seem to get US support.

A more interesting story is the Panama Papers in which the governing elite around the world are being exposed for off shore tax evasion and corruption. Brazil. Argentina, Pakistan Iceland etc. Of course Putin along with both sides of the Ukrainian war. And even UK PM Cameron’s father. Not to mention FIFA. So far the only US connection (besides Delaware and Nevada lax laws) are some old cronies from the Nixon era, but I’m quite certain if they shake the docs long enough there will be more…perhaps the Walmarts or Kochs or maybe Soros. Im sure the Iran-Contra scandal is buried there too. All in a banking firm started by the son of German SS officier who escaped to Panama after WW2. You just know conspricacy freaks will love this…

  6. Tychicus,

    More on that here.

    And HRW,

The link also shows the Obama admin is willing to support either side, at least in this case.

“It’s a shame the Republican candidates continue to waste time hectoring each other over the most trivial matters when over the last few days it has become increasingly clear how completely the president of the United States sold out the interests of our country and the West to the Islamic Republic of Iran — by far (it isn’t even close) the biggest state sponsor of terrorism. The candidates are missing an extraordinary teaching moment about something of monumental significance, assuming they are paying attention to it themselves.

The media — only a very few of whom (like Bloomberg’s Eli Lake and our own Michael Ledeen) seem even faintly interested in what is going on with Iran — is equally complicit and even more culpable in this fascination with the tangential.

What the supposed journalists are missing is a chance to solve the greatest mystery of our times — why Barack Obama decided to sell out those Western interests to Iran; and why, at least for the moment, he has taken the Shiite side in the thirteen hundred year plus Sunni-Shiite civil war and in so doing placed humanity in jeopardy, making the mullahs stronger and virtually assuring they will eventually have atomic weapons.

Why does this peculiar man who somehow ended up president of the United States make the often inexplicable decisions he does? Does he have real reasons (nefarious or otherwise) or is it, to be blunt, emotional disturbance?

  7. HRW,

I found that interesting, and this one as well. This will get very interesting, and embarrassing, I’m sure.

“Putin and the ‘Dirty Dozen’: 11million leaked documents reveal how TWELVE world leaders – plus Russian leader’s inner circle, British politicians and Lords – hide their millions in tax havens

11million financial documents have been leaked from Panamanian law firm
Show how world’s rich and powerful use offshore tax havens to hide wealth
Twelve current or former world leaders implicated along with UK politicians
Russian president Vladimir Putin’s friends appear to have earned millions
Leak is bigger than the amount of data stolen by Edward Snowden in 2013
German newspaper obtained documents but identity of source is unknown”

  8. Iran is a natural ally for the US in both Syria and Yemen. Im not sure how your source considers Iran a greater supporter of terrorism than the Saudis. The Saudis have been exporting Wahhabist Islam, funding mosques in the west (i live a block from King Faud academy) supporting terrorists in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and probably Libya Egypt and other African countries. The US should stop holding hands with the Saudis and use Iran to limit Saudi influence.
