  1. Charlie Daniels dissertation will have no meaning if Hillary is elected.
    It will be over.

Really! We won’t be able to recover from another four years.
    It may be so now.
People don’t realize how bad a 19 trillion dollar debt is.
If interest rates go up, it will take all our income to service the debt.
We will be in the same bed a s Greece.

  2. I realized yesterday how hard it’s really going to be to come out of this with any kind of unifying candidate on the conservative side.

If Trump gets the nomination (which I still think won’t happen, but … ???), many of us will be relegated to a no-chance 3rd party type — or just staying home.

If he doesn’t get the nomination, his followers go with him and either stay home if he doesn’t run or vote for him as a maverick 3rd option (which I suspect is what he’d do).

And the GOP will be split maybe even beyond that if there are folks who won’t vote for some of the other candidates. The infighting is getting so fierce.

It’s such a shame since it seemed like such a good year for the conservatives, so many talented, young, principled candidates lined up on that bench … And Hillary seemed so flawed & easy to beat.

But then came Trump, turning everything upside down. And everything since then has seemed to just unravel.

Time’s quickly running out, I’m worried the party won’t be able to regain its footing.

  3. We have been offered the services of a man of honesty, integrity, strong viewpoints, willingness to seek out those who will implement his views, and those who will be able to give him solid info in their area of expertise. We choose to close our eyes and ears and say “he is too nice! We need somebody who lies and hates on others. We don’t want somebody who might make us give up some of our extras. We want somebody who will take from others and give me more!” And we will probably get what we deserve rather than be the blessing to the world we could be.

  4. My “guy” is gone! I wish she would run for Senator here in CA but it wouldn’t make any difference here in CA; the Democrats
a.) might win the first 2 spots in the Primaries and she wouldn’t even get on the ballot,
b.) the Democrats might not deign to have a debate with her,
c.) Democrats certainly won’t listen to any Republican,
d.) “think” funny. (If “think” can even be applied to what they do!)

  5. Church friend today posted that Trump is the first person running for president he’s been actually “afraid” of in his lifetime.

Trump is sounding more and more unhinged as this goes on, it’s really getting bizarre.

  6. Sounds like Rubio’s doing better after his poor debate showing from NH. He did well in the last debate, I though, and managed to stay out of some of the worst of the bickering that marked that event.

But Trump still has a big lead in the polls in SC.

EASLEY, S.C. — Marco Rubio carried a message to South Carolina: He is “at peace” with his failure in New Hampshire. …

… “The concept of peace in Christianity is not simply peace, like, no-war peace. It is the peace of being at peace with whatever God decides,” Rubio told Don Pendleton, a retiree who’d taken the microphone and told Rubio that he was disappointed after the 2016 contender’s dismal showing in New Hampshire until seeing the swell of support in the room.

It was a heartfelt statement that gave the senator an opening to dig deep. “Here is what I am at peace with: Whatever happens next, God will either give me the ability to get around it or the strength to go through it. I think that is also true for our country.”

When he finished, Rubio basked in thunderous applause from a 2,000-person, standing-room-only crowd, roughly 10 percent of the town’s population.

His bruises from New Hampshire have healed — and not simply because of his faith. The 44-year-old senator was indeed humbled by the humiliation he suffered before heading to South Carolina, but his chances of capturing the Republican nomination haven’t completely gone south.

Donald Trump sits high atop the polls here, but Rubio is positioned to finish either second or third. A poll Monday night taken entirely after Saturday’s debate shows Rubio tied for second with Ted Cruz at 18 percent. …

  7. The wisest thing would be for all Republican candidates other than Trump to go into a room and hash things out and unite behind one candidate to oppose the lunatic and then the Democrats. That won’t happen and it might not even work given the increasing stupidity of American voters, but it is what should happen.

  8. There needs to be some consolidation of “non-Trump” candidates. Not happening yet and that’s what is worrisome. The rest of them are going at each other tooth and nail.

  9. My concern is that the bigger picture (Trump or 4 more years under a Democrat) is getting lost in all this infighting.

We’re now getting deep into the primary season and the window of settling on a principled and electable nominee is shrinking.

  10. Interesting, and his reasoning makes sense to me. Thomas Sowell is endorsing Cruz.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/02/16/tragedy_and_choices__129669.html

“Amid the petty bickering, loud rhetoric and sordid attack ads in this year’s primary election campaigns, the death of a giant — Justice Antonin Scalia — suddenly overshadows all of that.”

“If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be? Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?

Among the other Republican candidates, Dr. Ben Carson is a monumental figure in his field, and he is clearly revered even by people who would not vote for him. But votes are how elections are decided.

The governors among the Republican candidates can at least be judged by how their track record stands up in running a governmental organization. So can Senator Ted Cruz, who was solicitor general in Texas. But Senator Marco Rubio has no comparable experience — and his inexperience has shown up in his abortive attempt to join Democrats in promoting amnesty.

If the Republicans are to avoid having Donald Trump lead them — and the country — to disaster, they are going to have to have the majority of non-Trump supporters get behind some given candidate.

Senator Ted Cruz has been criticized in this column before, and will undoubtedly be criticized here again. But we can only make our choices among those actually available, and Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind.

As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, he will know how important choosing Justice Scalia’s replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more.”

  11. I like & respect Sowell and, as I’ve said before, I’ll vote for Cruz if he’s the nominee. I don’t think he’s the strongest general election candidate, but that’s my opinion.

That said, the sooner the party can rally around an alternative to Trump and stop bickering among each other, the better.

… “My previous endorsement of Marco Rubio was a grave mistake,” the message, posted Monday from “Trey Gowdy Prayers” reads. “The recent South Carolina debate revealed his total lack of integrity, intillect [sic] and foresight.”

The post goes on to endorse Mr. Cruz for president.

In a statement released by the Rubio campaign, Mr. Gowdy disavowed the post, accused Mr. Cruz’s team of dirty tricks and requested that the Texas senator repudiate the message.

“In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Senator Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator,” Mr. Gowdy said.

A spokesman for Mr. Cruz didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment…
