  1. I missed Bernie but saw some of O’Mally and most of Clinton on last night’s “town hall.”

Clinton pulls out all the stops for these appearances, it’s like someone winds her up like a Hillary doll and she’s able to perform with a lot of energy. 🙂 She still has problems in the likability area, though.

And younger voters — along with older ones who are the more die-hard liberals — seem all out for Bernie these days. He’s the candidate who’s getting the enthusiasm and momentum.

I noticed two Bernie lawn signs had sprung up in my neighborhood last night as I was walking my dogs.

I haven’t seen lawn signs, window signs or bumper stickers for anyone but Bernie so far. He’s the only one.

  2. Donna,

There’s a pic on Twitter of a street in Jersey where all the sidewalks are shoveled except the one with the Sanders sign. The person posting it guessed that they were waiting for the govt to come shovel it for them. 🙂

  3. Bob, maybe it depends on where you live. 🙂

I remember seeing a W bumper sticker in 2004, when he was running for re-election but had become one of the most despised people on the left (the vitriol was almost scary), and thinking the person was tempting fate by putting that on their car out here on the left coast. 😉

  4. In 1996 two families in our neighborhood put up Clinton yard signs. Several of us then started flying Confederate flags in our yards. The message was received and the Clinton signs came down which allowed us to prevent too much wind damage to our flags.

  5. Saw this on National Review online:

“Trump is wrong: Cruz is a natural-born citizen. But at least Trump is consistent about wanting to stop foreigners from taking jobs from low-skilled Americans.”

Is that saying most politicians are “low-skilled”? Seems so to me.

Oh, and Mrs L and I are going to drive an hour-and-a-half to see Ted Cruz tonight in Fairfield, Iowa. Rick Perry is supposed to be there also.

  6. Peter,

When you have time, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Cruz in person and his ideas. It’s hard to get a good opinion on the man when the media and both political parties despise him. I suspect there is a reason for that, and not all of them bad, but regardless, people seem to buy what the biased media says. That the he’s a “divider” “not personable” and what not. I value your opinion and would be interested in hearing what you thought of him. Thanks.

  7. Oh boy……

    http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/267032-trump-lands-falwell-endorsement

“Christian leader Jerry Falwell Jr. on Tuesday endorsed Donald Trump for the White House in a move that could reverberate in the fight for evangelical voters in Iowa.

Falwell, the son of famed televangelist Jerry Falwell, called Trump “a successful executive and entrepreneur, a wonderful father and a man who I believe can lead our country to greatness again.”

The younger Falwell is also the president of Liberty University, the nation’s largest Christian school, where Cruz launched his presidential bid in March.

“It is truly an honor to receive Jerry’s endorsement,” Trump said in a statement. “Not only is he a high-quality person, with a wonderful family, whom I have great respect for, I also consider him a very good friend, and his support means so much to me.”

  8. Those Fallwells. 😦 😦

    And this from Twitter:

New question for Clinton in Iowa: “Would you consider appointing Obama” to the Supreme Court?

    “I tell ya, that’s a great idea.”

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/01/trump-evangelicals-poll-218210

“Donald Trump’s outreach to Christians is bearing fruit, if results of the NBC News/Survey Monkey weekly online tracking poll out Tuesday are any indication.
Among white evangelical Republican voters nationally, Trump earned the support of 37 percent, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose father is a pastor and has played a key role in recruiting faith leaders to support his son, is at 20 percent. In the same survey conducted the previous week, Cruz registered 9 percentage points higher. Below the top two contenders, Ben Carson earned 11 percent among evangelicals, and Marco Rubio took 10 percent.

The Manhattan business mogul, who is Presbyterian, made headlines throughout the course of the past week for his various interactions with fellow Christians, including a stop at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, last Monday. Delivering the weekly convocation address, Trump caused a stir when he made reference to a book in the Bible a “Two Corinthians,” rather than the usual nomenclature, “Second Corinthians.” (Trump later claimed that it was written that way in his notes, and besides, his mother was Scottish and would have said it that way.)”

  10. I didn’t care for the real Jerry Fallwell. I don’t know much about his son. I wonder if Trump is contributing to Liberty University.
There is absolutely no reason for Sarah Palin and Jerry Fallwell to come out for Trump.
Something else is going on. Trump knows how to deal.

  11. Trump couldn’t think of a favorite Bible verse. Most Christians, whether they are regular at church or not will automatically say John 3:126. Everyone knows that.
I would likely say another, but most would say John 3:16 without thinking.

  12. At a Training Union party, before we married, someone asked Elvera her favorite Bible verse. She, without a thought, said Proverbs 3:5. “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.”
I was proud of her spontaneous reply.

Donald Trump will “definitely” skip Thursday’s GOP debate due to a deepening fight with the Fox News Channel, according to his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
“It’s not under negotiation,” Lewandowski told reporters Tuesday evening.

Instead of attending the debate, “We’ll have an event here in Iowa, with potentially another network, to raise money for wounded warriors,” he said. “And Fox will go from probably having 24 million viewers to about 2 million.” …

  14. If Trump is the republican candidate, I guess I will have to vote for Gary Johnson. I cannot believe anyone with good sense would actually vote for him…. this should not surprise me as we have had Obama for 2 terms. ;(

Maybe (Trump) thinks that with a new lead in the polls he can sit on the ball and coast to a win on Monday. Maybe he thinks his absence will mean Cruz, Rubio, Fiorina and Bush will attack him relentlessly, and, counter-intuitively, bolster his status with Iowa voters.

This year, who can tell. If you had predicted last spring that Jerry Falwell Jr. would endorse a thrice-married Manhattanite who helped develop Atlantic City gambling, I’d have said you were smoking something not legal even in Colorado. But here we are. Game theory at this point is useless. I give up. …

… I am pretty sure this won’t hurt Trump. If saying, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters” didn’t offend Trump’s supporters, skipping a debate won’t bother them either.

If this episode is notable, it is because it further confirms that Trump isn’t primarily seeking conservative support. Fox News and Megyn Kelly are popular on the right. A conventional Republican candidate–one trying to appeal to his party’s conservative base–would try hard to avoid a public fight with them. …
