Good day for a Friday. Do the days of the week seem to have personalities? Do you have a favorite day of the week and a second favorite? Has that changed over time?
It’s Friday!
You know what that means?
Friday used to be my favorite day.
Now, for some reason, my favorite day is Tuesday.
I think it because I have absolutely nothing to do on Tuesday.
On Thursday I have to take the trash out. A minor thing.
But it’s something.
On the way home, I was listening to Roy Acuff on a CD.
He was singing “Pins and Needles in My Heart”
A line in that song struck me as brilliant, though I had heard it a hundred times. I just noticed it today.
Which reminded me of this song which got me through a rough patch and might again. Take the man out of the song and insert whatever you need to handle.
Janice I never thought about the days of the week having a personality but numbers did when I was a child.
1 was 5’s father
2 was 1’s girlfriend (my grandfather had a girlfriend before he and my grandmother remarried)
3 was 4’s mother
4 dated ( was married to-can’t remember)5
6 was 7’s dad
7 dated 8
9 was 8’s best friend
10 was 9’s mother
That’s too complicated for my brain at 5:30 in the morning.
Haven’t thought about personalities for days of the weeks, though I was surprised to wake up at 3:30 and realize today was Friday. Everything has gotten scrambled this week!
May have figured out a key to the biography late yesterday, but now have to leave it all until Monday–too many family responsibilities.
Sitting at Panera listening to a group of men sitting at a table next to me….now mind you I left my hearing aids in the pocket of the coat I was going to wear. I changed my mind and grabbed a different jacket…no hearing aids for me today. The gentlemen are discussing the church and people’s attitudes about the church….interesting conversation…man I wish I had my ears in today 😛
I forgot that it was Friday…all my days are scrambled together lately. I fell asleep at 8:30 last night and did not awaken until 5:30 this morning….and I’m still tired…..
During early school days, I always liked the weekend best, except I did not like Sunday school at times. Later at college I think I enjoyed most days, except exam times were stressful. Then in my twenties I tended to like the work days best when I would see my friends. I was not connected to church and so weekends could feel lonely. After having our son and beginning homeschool, every day felt like a day to learn something new which I liked. At first it felt like doing school over for me without the discomfort of being an introvert in a full classroom of expectations I couldn’t meet except for making good grades by doing well on written tests. I could enjoy learning at the pace of a bright and engaging child. For quite sometime now, Sundays have been my favorite day. My schedule has been so haphazard that it is difficult to think of the days like I use to.
Today I planned to go to the office, but discovery of no hot water and a busted tank has rearranged my plans. Again.
I never thought of days having personalities before I wrote that this morning. I think I am just longing for a little more routine.
I think I was always fond of the number rwo because it reminded me of pencil lead that was just right. Number three lead was too light and one was too thick for writing fast.
Four was a good number because we had four family members and when my father was home from his sea duty all four were together.
I’m guessing one of us especially likes the number six on the blog!
Now I like the number one as in one son and one cat. When Wesley was young I sometimes called him Son One.
Oh, pencils. In recent years I’ve rediscovered a love of pencils (and erasers!) and I prefer using them at my desk at work (though i still need a good pen for going out on assignments).
Routine is good — you’ve had a crazy couple of months Janice. It’ll settle down at some point, though, and you’ll have a new appreciation for boring, routine days. 🙂
Fourteen year old boy always, and I mean always, takes the eraser off of his pencil. Usually by snapping the end of the pencil off, but sometimes just taking the metal thing off. He is not allowed to use mechanical pencils as they don’t survive two minutes.
Wednesdays are the pet rail day for me. (Translation: We have these small info boxes scattered throughout the paper every day; I have to do the pet-themed one every Wednesday.)
This week’s item had to do with a new free app that uses CSI-style facial recognition technology to find lost dogs.
And speaking of technology, police in California are trying to figure out who gets the ticket when they pull over a driverless car for speeding.
And Saturdays are wonderful because we can do schoolwork or not and it is mostly reading. Tomorrow it will be visiting with daughter and son in law and fixing Thanksgiving dinner.
I had a pile of too long branches that had to be cut down to size for street pick up sitting in the carport passageway that goes to the back outside stairs to the crawl space where the hot water heater has died. I spent some time breaking those down to make way for help. Then I called and the earliest appt. Is on Tues., the day before Art’s procedure. Can we be without hot water all that time? I have not told him yet. We will not be happy campers.
No it was a photo of a red cup with a Christmas Tree, a Rebel Flag, a Menorrah, and some other religions symbols, I said “There. Now is Everyone Happy?”
Earlier comments on pencils reminded me of how much I loved Pete mechanical pencils I used on accounting spreadsheets before everything got computerized.
Had a good day out with my cousin, went to see the new James Bond movie (she’s more of a fan than I am, I haven’t seen a lot of Bond films through the years, but really liked Skyfall a couple years ago so wanted to see this one too).
Lots of action (that no one would ever really survive, of course), with the typical Bond elements of parachuting out of a speeding, missile-armed car, leaping off an imploding building in Mexico City (dusting off the suit on landing), “sledding” in a broken-up plane down a snowy mountain in Austria, exploring holdouts of the global bad guys in the deserts of Tunisia … I will say you never think about glancing at your watch.
We had a good lunch at Marmalade Cafe (I had their tuna sandwich on toasted sourdough w/an organic side salad & balsamic dressing, mmmm — brought 1/2 of the sandwich home for dinner).
Then picked up all the meds for 6 months for the animals, sheesh that’s always so expensive to buy in bulk like that, but kind of nice to have a 6-month supply of the most expensive medicines/supplements they take.
It wasn’t until I was in the car going to the vet’s at around 2-3 p.m. that I heard about the Paris attacks, what a sad and tragic mess. And France had been on high alert for a few weeks, yet this still slipped through.
If I had a favorite day of the week it would probably be Sunday. Honestly, as a freelancer all the other days are pretty much alike. Well, Monday can be a bit lazy so I often try to do the laundry (plus a bit of editing) just so that I can feel like I did something useful. And one of our daughters has a couple days a week she’s off and thus she’s here on those days. But the other days pretty much are about the same.
When I lived in Phoenix and was on my own, I found Friday nights lonely . . . I would drive home and know I wouldn’t see anyone on Saturday (I lived with my sister but she worked long hours on Saturdays). In Chicago I often tried to call friends on Friday, but finally figured out it was the one day that nobody (nobody but me) was home . . . and after that Friday became my reading night. So I learned to look forward to quiet Friday evenings, just me and a book for hours.
These days Friday evening is one of the times the fiance is over here, so often (like tonight) I tuck my hubby in and then get back up, and then go to bed after he leaves. So it’s quiet but I can’t go in the living room and read, since I’m chaperoning “from a distance” and granting privacy.

Yes, it is indeed Friday, so here are your weekly political comics!
Speaking of numbers, one of my children’s favorite riddles was this (read it out loud):
Why did 6 not like 7? A- Because 7 8 9.
You may now resume your Friday.

Fridays are always nice.
I have today off, heading out for a day with the cousin but had to get up early to haul the trash out.
And it’s cold. My house is in the low 50s, but so far I’ve resisted flipping that heater on, I hate those sky-high gas bills every month.
