It’s time for a little fun in the Pigskin Picks: (Mostly) Losers Week!
We are 9 weeks into the College Football Season, and there are 12 undefeated teams. And here you have the chance to pick the winner of 10 college football games. Most of the no-loss teams get to rest this weekend, or are playing opponents with a much worse record, except for Temple, which hosts Notre Dame. So, rather than take it easy this week, Pigskin Picks gives us all a challenge: pick the winner of games involving losers. In other words, most of the games are more or less pillow fights. The tie breaker is kbells’ choice of Ole Miss at Auburn. Then, there is a game of local significance, featuring my alma mater and the team from just down the river. Yes, a Division II game from the Great Lakes Valley Conference is here for your challenge.
So enjoy Hallowe’en if that is your preference, or spend Saturday scared that you chose the wrong loser to win.
-
Truman State (4-4) @ Quincy, IL (2-5) – The game is only 17 miles from my house, but I’ll be a few miles from TSU’s field celebrating a birthday.
-
Central Florida (0-8) @ Cincinnati (4-3) – UCF is the #1 team in the ESPN Bottom 10 list, meaning they are currently considered the worst team in the FBS (Div 1-A).
-
Idaho (3-4) @ New Mexico State (0-7) – The “Other Aggies” are #2 on the above list. Idaho with 3 wins seems like a winning season for them (no offense to our own Idahoan).
-
Texas San Antonio (1-6) @ North Texas St. (0-7) – This game is a true Pillow Fight of the Week. Of course, UTSA has played some challenging opponents.
-
Louisiana-Monroe (1-6) @ Louisiana-Lafayette (2-4) – Bad vs. Worse in the Pelican State. Yes, there are other teams other than LSU there.
-
U-Mass (1-6) @ Ball State (2-6) – “UMess” hasn’t been in the FBS for a very long. And they haven’t won many games, either.
-
Florida-International (4-4) @ Florida-Atlantic (1-6) – Florida is well represented in the Bottom 10. Even Miami made it because of their 58-0 loss last week.
-
Nebraska (3-5) @ Purdue (1-6) – Enough of the lesser conferences. How about some B1G action? Although looking at these two teams this year, there hasn’t been enough action!
-
#9 Notre Dame (6-1) @ #21 Temple (7-0) – The only undefeated team playing a real challenging opponent.
-
Tie Breaker-Pick Winner and Final Score: #19 Ole Miss (6-2) @ Auburn (4-3) – The only other “big” game is an important one down South. Of course, an Auburn team with 3 losses sounds like a losing season to me.

I see the logos didn’t work even with the attachment?
Here goes:
1. Truman Bulldogs declaw the Eagles – The local TV station is calling it “Paws and Feathers”.
2. Cinci – There is a reason CFU is 0-8. I think they were that bad last year, too.
3. Idaho – The Vandals are better this year than last. The Aggies are not.
4. UTSA – They played reasonably well against a couple of good teams (like Arizona). (And the “Mean Green” of NTU is not so mean.)
5. ULL – Home field advantage, for what it’s worth.
6. Ball St – Don’t know much about them, but I know UMass is no good.
7. FIU – No reason, other than their record.
8. Nebraska – The Boilermakers have a nick-name at ESPN: “Pur-don’t”. Maybe I’m wrong, but this is not the year they beat the ‘Huskers.
9. Temple – I’m going out on a limb, but here’s hoping.
10. Ole Miss 30-27 – Sorry Tiger fans.

Looking at my Pigskin spread sheet, if there are some upsets, Chas will do really well this week. If the team with the better record wins, it will depend on the tie breaker.

Carolina lost to A&M 35-28. They played a much better game than I expected.
Purdue beat up on Nebraska. The Cornhuskers used to be a national power.

Seven games done and Chas is in the lead with 5 correct. Quincy University pulled off an upset at home over Truman, and Chas was the only one to choose that result.

Oh, and Chas was the only one to pick Purdue. The upsets could win it for him. But he didn’t get the tie breaker game correct.

Chas wins! Chas- The only one who didn’t get the tie breaker game, was the only one to choose Quincy over Truman, The only one to pick Purdue over Nebraska, and the only one to chose winless New Mexico State over Idaho. And guess what? All three of those were correct for him. So congratulations, Chas. Pick next week’s tie breaker game.
Here are the results:
Chas 7
Mumsee and kbells 5
AJ, Peter, Tychicus and IBNO 4
Janice 3
