  1. Morning all. Only one day left of term break and then it is back to school. Actually I have been at school, but now the children will be returning. Two are elsewhere so I will have 15 in my class, then in week 3 the twins head for the village, so down to 13. There are several coming, but who knows when????

  2. I’m already confused Cheryl.
Looks like the worst is over here. Before I left for Williamsburg, I emptied my rain gauge, it had three inches in it. (rain smarty). When I returned, it had five inches, I emptied it and got another five. It now has 1.1″. So, I figure we got at least 15″ of rain in Hendersonville in the rain event that started almost two weeks ago.
It is much worse in SC.

  3. You guys probably will want to contact the Vatican and start the process of nominating me for sainthood. After two days of hauling boxes in my Xterra and a day and a half of Mr. P doing the same in his Titan we got the U-Haul Saturday morning. Five of us were loading and unloading it. We made 2 hauls in it before 2:30–which is when all work stopped and they watched the Alabama/Georgia game. Yesterday morning the Dolphins were playing in London or some such –Mr. P and I couldn’t get started until the game was almost over.
Now you are asking yourself why I deserve to be a Saint. I didn’t blow my top. I calmly continued to unpack, then I hauled myself to my new tub and soaked in Epsom Salts.
There is still stuff left in the old garage that needs to be moved. I cleaned and vacuumed the old house yesterday, but a real cleaning lady is coming tomorrow to “move out” clean it. She will be worth every dime. I came to work today so that I could rest.

  4. Getting someone else to clean your old house is a great idea! We’ve done that the last 2 moves and it makes such a difference.

Good morning, all. We have about 120 students coming for fall outdoor recreation this week and we’re short-staffed. That means I’ll have to help in the kitchen!!! Oh those poor students!! 🙂

  5. That’s a lot of rain Chas. We had some light rain yesterday, but didn’t really amount to anything, of course. It’ll be in the 90s by next weekend again. Sigh.

Someone, wearing shorts & a sweatshirt, at the dog park last night (around 6) was complaining about how terribly cold it was. It was 68, according to my phone — a nice, balmy early evening, late afternoon in my book. But she was very upset by the frigid turn we’d taken.

It’s felt good to have some cool air overnight at last, though. Seem like our summer/hot weather is shifting and happening later in the year — starting in July now and ending well into fall. It’ll probably be a hot Halloween.

And we’re all pining for the El Nino rain that’s been promised. If it materializes, that should begin in November-December and last through the early part of ’16.

  6. Kim – When we moved into this house 15 years ago, we had to do the cleaning before moving stuff in. (My mom helped me do that the day before our moving day.) Our real estate agent told us that that is usually the way it goes. But I like the idea of leaving a clean house for the next family. That is nice that you are paying someone to do an extra-good job.

  7. We just got home from our doc appt. to find our water main being replaced and a lot of water puddled in our driveway. No warning was received that this would be done. I hope whatever they are putting in will be safe as far as the materials used. I do not know much about such things.

  8. Glad the move is going well. We have great friends that come over and help clean the old house for us. Once we moved to Sedalia, MO, and the church there (whose pastor was a former roommate of mine) had the new house all cleaned and supper in crock pots waiting for us. They had the 26′ U-Haul unloaded in less than two hours and didn’t leave until all the beds were set up.

  9. I just washed my hands after the water got turned back on and wondered if my hands would be cleaner before or after washing. Just another thing to give over to God. Also, we now have another area of our yard that can turn into a mud hole since they dug all around the meter area and it is bare dirt. At this rate I will have very little grasd to mow. 🙂

  10. I wanted to have the new house cleaned before we moved in, but someone who shall remain nameless thought I could do it after we moved in. 😉
We had leftover pizza for dinner Saturday night.
Of COURSE the TV had to be working by kickoff!!!! This is Alabama Football we are talking about!
I have always cleaned a house when I moved out. It wasn’t until 3 moves ago that I discovered paying someone else to do it.
    1. I make my living in real estate…I can’t afford to have people talk about what a lousy housekeeper I am.
    2. This former landlord goes to church with me…really don’t want him thinking I am a lousy housekeeper.
    3. I WAS a lousy housekeeper in this house because it was too hard to move the king sized sleigh bed and the huge L shaped sofa. One room was full of boxes and furniture. The double bed in the other bedroom had boxes under it. Oh, and the beater bar on my Rainbow vacuum has been in and out of the shop and something smells AWFUL when I vacuum with the cheapy vacuum from where esle? WalMart!!!!

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  11. U-verse isn’t offered at the new house so AT&T switched us back to DSL. It doesn’t pull enough to get online wirelessly. All it does is keep my cell phone from using my data package and still tell me it can’t connect to the internet.

Guy didn’t think it was funny this morning when I told him I came back to work so I would rest.
I have sat in a chair all day with my feet propped up under my desk, the heaviest thing I have lifted today is my laptop AND the admin asked me if I wanted some homemade beef stew for lunch.
    It’s been a good day.

  12. Navy required you to pass a clean up inspection before you left–you wouldn’t get your housing allowance (for living off base) if you did not pass.

I was six months pregnant and my husband (of course) was out to sea for our final inspection at Mare Island. I am NOT the world’s best housekeeper, but I’m not the worst either. The inspector wore white gloves and got out a razor blade to check I cleaned around the door in the oven properly.

    I did not pass.

She also told me I needed to cut back the roses to the stumps.

It was June. I told her that would kill them and was foolhardy.

She called in a more senior inspector who took a look at my belly and told her I couldn’t use harsh chemicals anymore and he agreed with me about the roses.

She went out and chopped up the roses herself (neighbors told me the next people in the house were aghast) and passed me with a disgusted frown.

We always hired a cleaner (housing had a list) after that. $200 well spent, IMHO.

  13. Writing a BIble study on Hell I need to hand out tomorrow. Any suggestions? Questions? Anyone got one from a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod perspective so I can get out of the work? 🙂

Adventures in Prayer–I’ve got a video I’m considering uploading to Youtube, but I’m happy to send the detailed notes, which is basically everything I said without the ums, to whomever would like it. 18 pages long, but it’s stories.

  14. There’s a segment on FoxNews’ “Greta” program where a Dunkin Donuts clerk told a policeman, “We don’t serve police here”. The manager apologized to the policeman, but it became an issue.

The fact that this happened confuses me.’
I knew a Fairfax County policeman in Virginia. He told me that he went to 7-11 to use the rest room and get a free cup of coffee. The 7-11 liked to have a police car parked in front of their door. It deters robbers. He knew he was safe as long as that police car was there.

The coffee costs the business practically nothing. If I managed a fast food business, coffee would be free to all uniformed police officers.

  15. Chas, Waffle House gives a free meal to a police officer if I understand correctly (or they used to, or maybe a discounted one, but my memory is a free meal–my sister was a waitress there years ago). McDonald’s gives a free meal to bus drivers–the bus driver has incentive to choose them, the passengers don’t have a choice where they go, and it’s well worth the cost. Waffle House doesn’t hire a security guard; they just feed a cop and he’s likely to linger for an hour or so until a call comes in.

  16. Me too michelle.

Sounds like it’s a Black Lives Matter movement (denying service to officers). The kids who are doing this (employees at these places) are sympathetic to or members of the movement.

Interviewed our congresswoman today who wants to see if we can ship a bunch of water from Alaska, there’s a company trying to see if they can set that up.

On the way home, I had to stop at Sprouts (do any of you have those stores?) to return a bag of dry cat food that Annie turned her cute little nose up at. They refunded the money & I bought her more usual brand at Petco right next door.

One would think you could just leave the food and that eventually they’ll eat it. But they won’t. They’ll starve and complain incessantly until you get them the food they like.

We’re getting a nice, light rain here tonight. Refreshing. Can’t wait to get some *real* rain here in the next few months, we are DESPERATE.

  17. Our governor signed off on the assisted suicide bill today. I was hoping his once (apparently) sincere Catholic moorings would prevent him from signing that one. But no.

One person called it a “brave moral decision” and others also are praising it for the “choice” it provides.

    Sigh.

  18. On the pope and Kim Davis

One can only imagine the panicked frenzy that occurred behind the scenes within the corridors of power at the Vatican when it was learned that the Davis meeting was dominating the post-tour news cycle. After all the goodwill they had garnered carrying the water for climate-change apostles in public appearances with President Obama, how could they have been so careless as to upset the homosexual lobby? A way must be found to publicly downgrade the significance of the time with Mrs. Davis, the Kentucky woman who stood up to the gay juggernaut. ….

…. Ah, it was “kindness,” then, nothing personal. (I thought it was only the mafia who betrayed people while saying, “Nothing personal.”) But wouldn’t true and biblical kindness be sincerely meaning your words of support to Mrs. Davis, and not denying them for political gain once you’re back home?

Do you know who did get an “audience” with the pope in Washington, and not just a lowly “meeting”? A man named Yayo Grassi, an openly gay Argentinian and former student of Francis’ who arrived at the “audience” with his longtime partner.

And this, you can be sure, is what the Vatican wants you to see.
