Prayer Requests 8-29-15

Anyone have something they’d like to share?

Psalm 91

¹He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

  1. Prayer for husband as he heads off to Boise again, for his treatment on Monday. And prayer for me as I stay here with the seven children until Tuesday, when he gets home again. And then leaves for Boise on Friday for a few days of reunion with his family. Thanks.

  2. Pray for Carol, she’s going through one of her ‘paranoia’ episodes which are occurring more often lately. She’s convinced someone’s hacked into her cell phone, which she says now won’t charge and is dead, and that it’s all being either (a) orchestrated by a counselor she had years ago and hasn’t seen or had contact with in ages or (b) done by a fellow resident with whom she’s got some kind of problem.

    She may be completely over it next time we speak — or not. But she’s frantic to move out of there (though she can’t as she owes some back rent that won’t be paid up until January). This is becoming more of a pattern, frequent moves, changing phones (and phone #s), etc. I don’t know if her medications are *off* or need adjusting (she’s always been pretty good about taking them but there have been periods when she doesn’t and she spins out thinking people are listening in on her calls through her phone or a computer).

    She did get to church today (Hollywood Pres) and has made a friend there, so that’s good. I’d sent her a book this week from Amazon (“Overcoming Evil”) when she talked about having trouble with this one other resident, she was very happy to get and read it, but she didn’t mention it today, only said it was “hard” for her to be a Christian where she’s living.

    Anyway, pray for her safety & calmness and that these thoughts would leave her — and, if meds need adjusting, that the staff there will recognize and take care of that.

  3. Donna, Is she taking medication for paranoia? If so, those can change strength when taken for a long time. It can be very difficult to convince someone that what they think is happening is not. Praying.

  4. My father-in-law is going in tomorrow for a very serious test–it’s trying to figure out what is wrong with one of his legs, but it’s a long test and afterward he has to stay in certain positions for many hours. It sounds like an extremely draining day for all involved, and frankly I’m a bit concerned. We hope they end up keeping him overnight (it would be easier for the hospital staff to keep him at a 30-degree angle for four hours and then flat on his back overnight than for Mom and my sister-in-law. He isn’t always a compliant patient when his mind plays tricks on him in regards to remembering what the doctor has told him to do.)

  5. kathaleena, yes, she’s been on psych meds for years (she has a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia). Usually she’s fine, but there are periods when she slips back into a tendency to suspect conspiracy theories.

    I usually don’t try to convince her of anything, but just listen and watch. Sometimes I’m able to crack a joke about it that makes her laugh, too, and sort of jolts her back to reality (like what would the CIA really be trying to get out of you?). And today she started her conversation out by saying “This is going to sound paranoid, but … ” So she has some self-awareness of these periods, but I think still genuinely believes her suspicions when they get going.

    I can always call the staff (I’m listed as her primary contact) just to let them know if this continues — the doctor who makes the rounds there should know, there may be a way he can tweak her meds. But sometimes it’s a temporary lapse and she’s fine the next time we talk (and thereafter).

  6. And her medications have been changed from time to time through the years, it’s not uncommon, so I think they typically are watchful for that, but might not have the steady contact with her right now that I have.
