Prayer Requests 7-11-15

Today, something a little different……

On Monday our dear friend Jo will leave to begin her return trip to Ukarumpa in PNG to continue her ministry as a teacher. So let’s have a prayer party for Jo!

Just leave a prayer, blessing, or an encouraging note for Jo has she prepares to head back to the field. 🙂

(And thanks to Michelle for the great idea!)

And as always, feel free to leave any other requests or praises you may have as well.

  1. From the BCP

O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole
creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: Preserve
those who travel in particular Jo; surround
    her with your loving care; protect her from every danger;
and bring her in safety her journey’s end; through
    Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  2. I like to say it with music whenever possible, so here is the Irish blessing, May the Road Rise Up to Meet You, set to a lovely melody. Blessings to you, Jo.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall soft upon your fields
Until we meet again, my friend
    Until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Prayer request: I’m almost embarrassed to ask this, but here goes…

Since R has planned to have Forrest for the whole day today, I let Chrissy have the day off so she can attend ConnectiCon (like San Diego’s ComicCon, but much smaller, of course) with the McKs. Usually when R has Forrest, he doesn’t keep him for the whole day, so Chrissy hangs out here for when he brings him back. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t like to babysit Forrest on my own because he can be difficult to handle at times.

I know there is a possibility R may bring Forrest back after only a few hours, but I am taking the chance that he’ll keep him the whole day, because Chrissy would be so disappointed if she didn’t get to go to ConnectiCon. She has been so helpful with Forrest for so long, I didn’t want to say no.

So please pray that R keeps his word & keeps Forrest for the whole day, until Emily is home around 4:00. Thank you.

  4. I’ll be praying for you, Karen. And you need never be embarrassed to bring any prayer request here — whatever is on your heart. 🙂

May I share what’s on my heart about your situation today, Karen? It is this:

You have devoted much time and effort to being available to your grandson, exhibiting tremendous amounts of prayer and love through it all. I would like to suggest that, since R is to have F for the whole day, I think it would do you well to take the day for yourself. Leave the house, and just get away for awhile, doing something that refreshes you and doesn’t leave you in a position where you feel obligated to fill in the gaps if R bails out early.

Do I remember correctly that you don’t drive, Karen? Is there someone who can drop you off somewhere for a few hours? Or can you walk to somewhere nearby where you can have some time away?

You are more than a wife, a mother, a grandmother. You are an individual, too. I’m not saying, make a life of retreating from others so you can be free of people whenever you want to be.

I love your servant heart, Karen, but servants need rejuvenation time, too. Jesus Himself took time away to be alone with the Father. There were always lots of needs around Him, but He did retreat from humans at times.

There is no guilt in doing that — it is needful for us, to keep us from burning out in our acts of service.

Leave a note on the door, saying you’ll be back before 4:00 (or whenever), and let R learn to take responsibility. You are off-duty for the agreed-upon time. Don’t let him dictate when it’s time for you to offer your service.

Tone is hard to hear on the internet, but I say this in a calm and loving manner. 🙂

    Blessings to you, Karen.

  5. RKessler, from yesterday’s prayer thread, I am so very sorry about the family situation with your daughter and son-in-law you mentioned yesterday. My heart goes out to you, and you have my prayers.

  6. Addendum to my 9:57 to Karen: OTOH, maybe don’t put a note on the door, announcing when you’ll be back — you don’t need any potential burglars alerted to that. 😉

Just lock the door and leave, is what I should have said!

  7. 6 Arrows – I appreciate your kind words.

I am one of those people who prefer to relax in my own home. These days, it is a rare day when no one else is around, so I am enjoying that quiet alone time, catching up with some reading, & watching a couple TV shows I had recorded.

I had considered not answering the phone or the door. BUT…with R’s mental & emotional issues, I wouldn’t want Forrest to be with him if he was running out of steam, so to speak.

Forrest was good for me this morning when I had to get him dressed & ready to be picked up (he even brushed his teeth willingly!), so I’m hoping if he does get dropped off early, he’ll be good for me. At least he would have had some energy expended from time with his dad.

Thanks for the prayers & concern. I appreciate it.

  8. Safe travels Jo — and enjoy a day of rest, Karen. Stay out of Wayward Pines.

The Anime convention was in LA last weekend. One year my friend and I were riding the metro-rail subway through LA and a bunch of the participants were among our fellow passengers, getting on and off at different stops. A man also was on the train, reading aloud from his Bible and preaching and sharing the gospel with many of the young people who had mostly blank stares in response. But my friend and I enjoyed listening to him. 🙂

  9. Jo, may your travels be safe, may you have everything you need. May you be prepared to interact with your co-laborers and teach the children, and may they be prepared to learn.

  10. Heavenly Father, We know you love for your children to ask you for wisdom, so I ask that you give Jo all the wisdom she needs as she travels. I also ask for you to give her all the wisdom and patience she needs for all her students this year. Help her to see what each one especially needs from her and to have the strength to provide it for them.

  11. It went well. R kept Forrest until Emily could pick him up after her class. Not only did I have some quiet time to myself, Lee & I had some quiet time together, after he got home from work.

    Thank you for the prayers.

  12. I pray, Lord, that you would be with Jo as she travels on Monday. That if there’s anything wrong with any of her planes, that it would become obvious before she gets up in the air rather than later, and that she would arrive in PNG at the right time.

I thank you for her willingness to travel–both to bless me and those students and their families whom she serves in PNG. I ask that her return would bless her as well as them and that you would be glorified in her life.

Thank you for the times she has had with her family and church, and return her in renewed vigor and enthusiasm for the tasks you’ve prepared her for.

Thank you for our sister, Jo.

    Amen.

    Michelle.

  13. Prayers for many of you tonight, with severe weather that may have recently or might soon be near your areas, especially in the Midwest yesterday and today, and the Southeast tomorrow.

Praying for Michelle, too, as I believe she is flying from the East Coast to Chicago today. “The Windy City” is supposed to be hit with the major storm system around morning rush hour today, so she may be flying into the storm sometime today.

Lord, give wisdom and safety to all who travel or reside in the impacted areas.
