Prayer Requests 5-27-15

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 1

¹Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

  1. I liked this from one of my morning readings today (“Prone to Wander: Prayers of Confession and Celebration” by Duguid)

“Your call to walk blamelessly before you weighs heavily on our hearts. Some of us are very aware of just how far short we fall from this command and we are full of fear and dejected with disappointment in ourselves. Some of us are very blind to our sin and foolishly imagine ourselves to be doing quite well. Lord, thank you that your mercy is more than a match for all our sins of self-hatred and self-righteousness. As we struggle and fail to live lives of perfect holiness, we thank you for Jesus, who walked blamelessly in our place for 33 long years. … Father, give us growing delight in the blamelessness we have in you wonderful Son, and growing strength to live in holiness and obedience to you.”

  2. We are actually in Guatemala right now, getting ready for our oldest daughter Lydia’s wedding! We attended her graduation at JBU a couple of weeks ago, and now she’ll be getting married to a Guatemalan (who she met at college) on Saturday. Guatemala is a very interesting country, a country of extreme contrasts, and we are enjoying getting to know Marcel’s family.

Please pray not only for the wedding prep and their future life together, but also for the relationship between Marcel’s sister and the rest of the family – she’s been somewhat estranged for whatever reasons, but it seems that part of that is simply b/c she belongs to an evangelical church, which is especially difficult for the mother (the family, of course, being deeply rooted in Catholicism). It seems that God might use the wedding to draw them closer together – at least that’s what we’re praying for. Thanks for your prayers.

  3. Husband is on the road home again. The RA doc is back to saying it is not only RA but one of the worst cases he has ever seen. That was encouraging, i am sure. At least, he thinks he knows what is causing the discomfort now. Again. So, about a month after the surgery next week, he can start on some more meds for RA. They tend to make him susceptible to infection. He now has staph again….thanks for praying.

  4. I knew a woman who grew up on the mission field in Guatemala (her parents were Quaker missionaries there). No longer in touch with her, but she had such interesting stories of her childhood.
