Lee & I need wisdom on how to handle a new development, & how much to trust.
R called Lee last night. He said that Lee’s mention of praying for him a few days ago had an effect on him. He says he has “found God”, & will start going to the Catholic church in a nearby town that his grandmother used to go to.
I want to rejoice, but I have an uncomfortable feeling that this may not be genuine, that he may be using a proclamation of faith to manipulate us.
So I pray that if R really has “found God”, he will soon bear some fruit that will be evidence of his salvation, & if he has not, that God will chase him down anyway. 🙂 And wisdom & insight for Lee & me. Thank you.
Husband continues to deteriorate. He was told to stop losing weight and has tried but it keeps leaving. He is closing in on sixty next if it does not stop. Weight loss is good but it is muscle loss and he continues to grow weaker and weaker. Prayer for wisdom and patience and strength. thanks.
I pray they will find the cause for this condition, mumsee. 😦
Yes, Karen. I would be very skeptical. Was there any repentance in R’s profession? What is his point in telling you? What does he want you to do? I assume the point is to get you to help soften Emily up. If he is truly touched by God, he will not push others to do what they do not want just for his sake. Growth takes time, of course. He will have to show a lot more maturity before you should believe anything he SAYS.
I hate to be the Nabob of Negativity, but I “ain’t buyin’ it”. R is a master manipulator and he has tricks you haven’t even begun to think of yet. Step back and wonder what his purpose was in calling Lee? When you became a Christian did you pick up the phone and call people to tell them the good news? Pray for him all you want but don’t trust him. Once broken, trust has to be s-l-o-w-l-y regained.
I see RED FLAGS all over this.
PS: The more you talk to him the more susceptible you are to his manipulations. He is more able to parrot back to you what he knows you want to hear.

You basically tell them what to become, in order that they might hide who they really are from you… while erecting the man of your dreams right before your eyes. While they may not come over completely to your way of thinking about everything, they will agree with you on certain things that are very important to you. For example, if you have been abused in your life, they will assume the position of “protector” and will be a great empathizer regarding your pain, at least in the beginning…
Kim – Don’t worry. Lee & I are very aware of how manipulative he can be, which is why we are leery. Neither of us have opened up to him in any way, other than to say we are praying for him. We realize we need to step back & not get drawn into anything with him. I wish I could be jumping up & down for joy, but instead, I am skeptical.
If he is truly saved, then we will see evidence of that over time.

Agreed, Kathaleena. At this point, he isn’t asking anything of us. He said he hadn’t told Emily because she wouldn’t believe him.
Quite frankly, in Emily’s current spiritual condition (what we see of it, that is), she would scoff at him even if he is sincere about this.
