Prayer Requests 4-3-15

It’s Friday, so please remember Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Luke 23:26-56

26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

32 And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, This Is The King Of The Jews.

39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.

49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:

51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

  1. Thanks for prayers. I slept much better last night, for almost seven hours with only one interruption. My throat, however, is thick–could barely croak through an unending choir rehearsal that went past 10!

Not feeling particularly well today, but if you think of me tonight, please pray again for rest. I’m back to work today and it will be interesting to see how I function! Not to mention sing tonight!

  2. I am still sore from the massage yesterday that made me able to move my neck. This happens about once a year. I am sure it is caused by many years on a computer and the fact that I am back on the phone much more. I have ear buds and microphone to plug into my phone but after a while they hurt my ears. Gripe, grumble, complain.
Mr. P shared one of his muscle relaxers with me last night. I am sure it helped some. I know I consciously slept on my back rather than risk waking up in a knot again this morning.
I decided to work from home today.
Thanks for any prayers you gave me yesterday.

  3. Update on Carol:

The really good news is that “mass” they saw on the chest x-ray in her lung is another hernia

The not-great news is … Hernias can be serious and her abdominal one is really big and protruding, but doing surgery is too risky for infection, according to her doctors. So they’re getting her fitted with a binder to wear.

Her poor body is just over stressed physically, I guess. She’s always been very large (tall and heavy, though she’s lost weight through this). And she tends to push herself with walking too much — her knees are shot and whenever she takes long walks she regrets it, but there’s something that drives her to walk a lot and overdo physically.

She was still waiting for some other tests to come back but may get released back to the convalescent place soon. I’m hoping that’s temporary and they can place her again into a regular assisted living place. Guess that decision will go back to her social worker.

  4. Glad to hear Carol doesn’t have lung cancer, Donna. She sure has been putting up with a lot of stuff — all that business with shuffling her around from place to place irritated me; I can’t imagine what it would be like to actually experience it when needing care for serious issues!

Michelle and Kim, I’ve been praying for both of you, too. I don’t do fatigue or pain well AT ALL!

Speaking of pain, if I could request prayer for mine, even though I brought it on myself…

My left arm (very likely sore from playing/overplaying piano) still hurts. Sometimes the pain is in the bicep, sometimes the tricep, and, lately, the worst pain has been right between them on the top (as opposed to the underside) of my arm.

The strange thing is that my arm feels really good right after playing my music (very vigorous, especially in the left hand part for the last minute or minute-and-a-half of the piece). But later I pay the price. It hurts the worst upon waking up in the morning — my arm must be in a funny position while I sleep.

Today in church there was a person sitting way at the end of the pew, to my left, and I was in the middle, with no one between us. The offering basket came down the pew from my right, so when I put in my offering, I couldn’t just hand the basket to the man farther down the pew. I should have gotten up and walked it over to him, but, instead, I slid just a little left, then leaned sideways and reached a long ways with my left arm to hand him the basket.

Pain! Yikes. It just shot through my upper arm, and I’m pretty sure a grimace would have been seen on my face if anyone was looking.

Prayers for healing appreciated, and that I would apply wisdom in using/resting my arm so things don’t get worse.

    Thanks.

  5. And one other request, if I may (a follow-up to something I’ve mentioned before):

I said that my husband gave me the go-ahead on allotting our income-tax refund money in whichever way I wanted. That is completed (unfortunately, all the money was allocated before I knew of the recent big dental expenses I told you about yesterday), but anyway…

The other thing I needed to do was tweak our regular budget. There are lots I could say about this, but won’t, other than that I have put off what should have been done quite a bit before this time.

Today is probably the best day for that, as I have nothing else going on the rest of the day. Prayers welcome that I’ll just roll up my sleeves and get it done.

    And thank you again.

  6. Thanks for that link, Michelle. Some good tips. I’m definitely guilty of not warming up. I’ve almost always been a jump-right-into-the-repertoire-and-skip-the-technique/warmups kind of person, especially now when I don’t have as much time to devote to music as I did in my childhood and young adult years.

My piano professor in college would frequently rest his hands on my shoulders to remind me to release the tension and let them drop. My shoulders would tend to creep up toward my ears, unbeknownst to me. So even thirty years ago I was already playing with more tension than I needed. The effects weren’t nearly as damaging in my late teens/early 20s as they are now in my 50s. 😉

I know there’s more tension than in just my hurting arm, too. Last week, while I was taking a break from playing my piano show music, I decided on one of those days that I would just practice my right hand part (the uninjured side of my body).

I was surprised (at first, but shouldn’t have been) that I would get occasional twinges of pain in my left arm while I was only playing with the right. Everything is so interconnected, and I suppose if I’m tensing up in my neck, back or right shoulder, for example, I might feel it in other muscles that I thought were being inactive.

Back to my budget work…I think I should have labeled it, not a “tweak,” but an overhaul!

  7. My arm’s feeling not too bad tonight. Thanks for the prayers.

Budget business isn’t going the greatest. I think I’ll try to convince hubby to sit down with me so we can work on it together. He’s usually too busy for that and leaves the financial business to me. I’m fine with that, but I’m kind of stuck this time, for some reason. My mind is a little muddled right now.

But I did find an error in my checkbook when I was balancing our account, and now have that straightened out. The bad news is I subtracted wrong a while back, and discovered today that we actually have $500 less in the account than I thought. Oops. The good news is that I caught it now, before the account got too low.

I am going to try to shut off my financial brain now and veg the rest of the evening. 🙂

  8. Kare, glad to know I’m not the only one! I guess we’ll have to shrug our shoulders and say, “Why do we do that?” 🙂
