I received another set back yesterday. Guy changed the way he is paying me again. I had been feeling a little better because I had worked 94 hours this pay period and he said he wanted to pay me hourly. When I turned in my check request he changed it back to salary. I can”t win. I went home, ate dinner, watched the end of Dancing with the Stars, took an advil PM, and went to bed. I told Mr P what had happened which only led to another round of him telling me I had to make a certain amount of money or find another job. What? leave the little bit of security I have to take another job, so that in a year I can be fired again? I just have no words.
Kim, I am trying to understand what you just described. Did you work so many hours that he would have to pay you overtime? Was he not aware how many hours you were working? I guess I don’t see how he can so easily change the terms of your employment after you have worked the hours unless he somehow feels that you should have overtime approved as it is required to be in many businesses. Help to to understand what is going on, please. It sounds crazy on his part, unless there is an unknown factor.
Well, that’s not very fair. If he wanted to change the terms, he was still obligated (I think) to honor what you’d agreed upon for this period. He’s kind of being a jerk.
I’m making some headway with the situation with Carol, her primary physician got my emails and called her so she’s got an appointment with him on Monday. Of course, there goes my vacation day, but … maybe this will get her into a hospital where she can finally get treatment.
The social worker appears to be missing in action, I’ve left one voice mail and 2 emails over the past two days with no response. I’ll try calling her this morning again.
We need to get Carol’s walker to her somehow between now and Monday so she can get out of bed and into my car. I hate the place she’s at, they have her in a diaper & hospital gown and I doubt they’re doing any physical therapy with her. It’s awful and it’s causing me stress knowing she’s there, but I think only her social worker can help resolve that whole mess.
She wanted me to come visit this weekend but I’m really busy and just can’t — it’s a long drive with a lot of traffic, even on Saturdays. It took me nearly 90 minutes to get home last Saturday. I told her I’d be there Monday to make sure she got to the doctor’s appointment, but that would be it for this week.
Pray that one of her former church friends (who visits Carol with her boyfriend and lives a lot closer to where Carol is than I do) — or someone else — can pitch in a bit and help her with some of the practical things, including transportation, that will need to get done somehow. When I asked Carol if maybe this friend could be called on for some of this, though, Carol said Oh, no, she’s very busy (but she’s retired and doesn’t work).
Pray also that she’s getting the proper medications (she’s on both psychiatric and pain meds). Her speech is sounding very slurred when she calls me sometimes & she told me she actually called 9-1-1 yesterday to report her stuff stolen by her former residence (they supposedly are keeping it all for her for 30 days, but that does include her walker and I can understand her anxiety about whether any of it will be left in a month).
Meanwhile, the place has given away her room so she essentially has no residence to go back to at the moment, only the prospect of being in these horrible convalescent homes.
Social worker finally called. But since I was driving to a meeting I had to cover, I had to pull over to take the call & was late for the meeting. So I walked in just as the board was in the middle of critiquing one of my stories regarding crime in the area.
“Oh, there she is now,” one of them announced as I walked in 10 minutes late. Awkward.
Thanks, Donna. Lee had his Lupron shot (to battle the prostate cancer in his body) this afternoon, but he postponed his stress test to next Wednesday, because he has a cold.
Guy Kim Works With is not kinda being a jerk—he is a jerk. He is the reason people need labor laws and want unions. He is clearly taking advantage. He does it because it profits him and he CAN. He should be ashamed, but won’t be because he will find a way to justify himself. Sad.

Maybe Mr. P could talk to Guy You Work With man-to-man?
This is not fair for all this to be on your shoulders.

OK, back to rattling the social worker’s cage. …

Prayers for Karen & Lee today, too, I believe this is a medical appointment/test day for him?

Kim, your terms of employment need to be in writing.
