What’s interesting in the news today?

Open Thread, because I’ve got a lot of shoveling to do. 😦

But first……..

1. 5 terrorists for one deserter. Doesn’t seem like a fair trade. No wonder the Obama admin is stone-walling. They have egg on their faces.

And who has been holding things up? Why Ben Rhodes, who was one of the people responsible for the Benghazi talking points/it’s the video’s fault debacle.

2. Who didn’t see this coming. Taxpayers are gonna take a beating paying for all that “free” healthcare.

From TheDailyMail  “Obamacare program costs $50,000 in taxpayer money for every American who gets health insurance, says bombshell budget report

  1. #! I posted this before. But we had a marine imprisoned in Mexico on a trumped up charge.
People think Obama did nothing to get him out.
It wasn’t his fault. It was the Mexicans.
They wouldn’t take five Gitmo prisoners for him.

  2. From Brietbart:

Last week, the Times of Israel reported that senior presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett had been leading talks with Iran in secret for a year before the formal negotiations in Geneva this month. While the White House denied the report “100 percent,” the existence of back-channel talks has been confirmed by other reporting. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that President Barack Obama had “personally overseen” the talks.

Almost anything “personally overseen” by the President Obama is likely to bear the heavy stamp of Ms. Jarrett, who is the president’s closest adviser, despite a shocking track record of failure. In foreign policy, her most important mistake was her effort to dissuade the president from proceeding with the raid on Osama bin Laden. It was one of the few times that President Obama overruled her counsel–and one of his few successes.

Jarrett’s involvement in Iran is cause for concern for three additional reasons–two minor and one major. One minor reason is that she was born there. That should not automatically disqualify anyone, of course, any more than being born in the Soviet Union would have disqualified an anti-Soviet dissident. But Jarrett was born in 1956 to American expatriates in the aftermath of the CIA-assisted coup that deposed Mohammad Mossadegh.

  3. This was pretty stunning to read yesterday, haven’t seen any confirmation from other sources yet, however:

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/01/obama-campaign-team-working-to-defeat-netanyahu.php

“OBAMA CAMPAIGN TEAM WORKING TO DEFEAT NETANYAHU
There is only one world leader whom Barack Obama despises: Benjamin Netanyahu. And now, Obama is putting his campaign organization where his mouth is. Susan Goldberg at PJ Media picks up on a previously untranslated story from Israel’s left-wing newspaper, Haaretz:

“A summary of the article is provided by IMRA (Independent Media Review & Analysis):

” ‘Haaretz reporter Roi Arad revealed in an article in the Hebrew edition today [January 26] that the foreign funded organization, “One Voice”, is bankrolling the V-2015 campaign to defeat Binyamin Netanyahu’s national camp in the March 2015 Knesset Elections. …. ‘ “

  4. Here you go Donna,

And they’re using foreign donation scams, just like in Obama’s campaign.

    http://www.imra.org.il/story.php3?id=66198

“One indication of the generous financing is that it has now flown in a team
of five American campaign experts (including Jeremy Bird, the Obama
campaign’s national field director) who will run the campaign out of offices
taking up the ground floor of a Tel Aviv office building.

V-2015 is careful not to support a specific party – rather “just not Bibi”.
As such, the foreign funds pouring into the campaign are not subject to
    Israel’s campaign finance laws.”

  5. Interesting, anon

    Meanwhile from the WaPo:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/01/27/scott-walker-forms-committee-in-preparation-for-2016-presidential-bid/

“Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, whose speech to activists in Iowa last weekend drew strong reviews, has taken the first formal step toward a presidential candidacy in 2016, establishing a committee that will help spread his message and underwrite his activities as he seeks to build his political and fundraising networks in the months ahead.

“Walker filed papers to set up the committee, called ‘Our American Revival,’ and a new Web site for the organization was scheduled to go live later Tuesday. The steps come after a busy weekend of pre-presidential events that included his address at the Iowa Freedom Summit, a later appearance at a gathering in California hosted by the billionaire Koch brothers and a stopover in Denver for additional fundraising. …”

  6. Wasn’t “not interfering with national elections” the reason Obama gave for not meeting with Netanyahu when he comes to Congress next month.

  7. Yes rkessler, you are correct.

You’d think the MSM would be all over this story. But Barry always gets a pass from the like minded/left press. They don’t like Israel or Bibi either.

  8. Donna,

    More details….

    http://capitolcityproject.com/obamas-former-campaign-adviser-working-anti-netanyahu-campaign-israel/

““The goal is not to promote a specific candidate or party, but to put your ego aside for the greater good,” Dweck says. When I asked whether their goal was “Anyone but Bibi,” referring to the nickname of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, they corrected me: “We say ‘replace the government,’ it’s not directed at specific individuals. There have been many years of right-wing governments during which little happened, it’s time to change course and give people hope,” Arad writes.

V15 is bankrolled by American dollars thanks to a left-wing group called the OneVoice Movement. OneVoice describes itself as an “international grassroots movement that amplifies the voice of mainstream Israelis and Palestinians, empowering them to propel their elected representatives toward the two-state solution” and carries a mission “premised on the notion that everyday people have a crucial role to play in creating the political conditions necessary to propel their leaders toward ending the conflict and the occupation.”

OneVoice was founded in 2002 by Mexican-born Daniel Lubetzky who is now based in the United States as a businessman and philanthropist. Lubetzky created KIND Healthy Snacks in 2004– a snack bar company based in New York City. Lubetzky also has worked behind the scenes to bring various celebrities to Israel including Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander to “promote peace” in the region.

V15 is expected to fully merge with OneVoice before the March 17 elections.

As for Jeremy Bird being dispatched to Israel, this is not nearly the first time former Obama strategists have trained activists outside of the United States.”

And the group is funded in part by US taxpayers thru grants from the State Dept., but they insist that money wasn’t used here.

    http://freebeacon.com/national-security/state-department-funded-group-bankrolling-anti-bibi-campaign/

“OneVoice International received two grants from the U.S. State Department over the past year, and lists the agency as a “partner” on its website. Taler said the group is not using this money for its Israeli election-related efforts.

“No government funding has gone toward any of the activities we’re doing right now whatsoever,” she said.

Taler said the group used the State Department grants to “build public campaign support for the [Israeli-Palestinian] negotiations” spearheaded by Secretary of State John Kerry last spring.”
