Prayer Requests 8-27-14

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for the Gambia.

Anyone else have something to share?

Psalm 59

¹Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Lord.

They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

Thou therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14 And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

15 Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

  1. Continued prayer for my friend N who goes back to see her surgeon tomorrow (and is taking a good friend with her, a fellow now-retired LA city school teacher, they’ve known each other for many years and she’s also a Christian).

I called N yesterday on a break at work and was glad to hear that she’s also now thinking maybe the surgery is worth a shot. She said doing “nothing” (the only other alternative according to her doctors) just seems too much like giving up.

(She’s 81, has sarcoma, which is rare — and her doctors said the surgery could be as much as 6 hours long; because of her age, it holds some not-insignificant risk.)

  2. Deb, one of the missionaries in the Gambia, will have her kidney removed tomorrow because of a cancerous mass. She is praying to be able to return to The Gambia within 6 months. The team is struggling right now with the health issues and other stressful circumstances.

  3. Please pray for my husband. This is his “day off” (in which he still has plenty to do), but, due to certain circumstances, he is feeling a lot of stress over various things.

I know we are supposed to be patient, wait on the Lord, & say “all in God’s good timing.” But I don’t know how long my husband can continue this way.

  4. Heavenly Father,

I praise You for Your greatness and the way You overcame death with life eternal through the cleansing blood of Jesus. No one under the sun could have thought up that cure for sin sick souls other than You Who is above the sun and all created things.

Lord, there are those we know who have decisions to make that will bring them closer to physical death or extend physical life for them. They have the option to wait, pray, and see if You choose to act in a miraculous manner. It is so hard for N to decide what route to travel regarding surgery. Please help her in a divine way to know Your best short term plan for her situation. Help her rest assured in Your long term plan.

Lord, I lift up the missionary to The Gambia who has the need for surgery, too. Bless her with a successful removal of cancer and a speedy recovery. May she quickly be feeling up to returning to her call. Please bless the shorthanded staff in The Gambia. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. May this be a time of discovery through Your divine guidance of new procedures that work.

Lord, Your children are continuing in prayers for Karen O’s husband, Lee. You see him and all others who struggle under a heavy load. Please help him to look to Jesus to give him rest as Jesus lifts his burden, the weight that has made him feel like he is in quicksand. Rescue him, Lord, in whatever way You are seeing as best in his state of need. Help him to discover new forms of help that he had not thought of before. I do thank You that You lifted the weight of the upstairs renters out of their home. Now, please, move again to help them. The distress seems unbearable presently.

Lord, I lift up the prayer group that will gather tonight at church for special prayers over the missionary who has lost his way and caused his wife pain beyond understanding. Please act quickly and favorably if it is Your will on behalf of our prayers. May many attend tonight as a show of unity to boost the spirits of the grieving.

Please, Lord, give me blessings along the path of finding people to attend the upcoming CLI dinner and the Prayer at the Prison gate events. You know who I need to ask. Please give favor to the Director and her husband as they travel.

I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen

  5. One of my agents, a woman I have known of for a very long time, has lived the life of Job the past two years. She has maintained a positive outlook in the face of her husband having prostate cancer, they melanoma, her autistic son having cancer, she herself recently had a ruptured appendix. She learned that due to her age, social security on her , her husband, and her son that she CANNOT make any more money this year and is currently being penalized by the IRS and her son’s benefits have been cut….Last week she took her son’s dog to the vet and the dog starts chemo next week. Even the dog has cancer.
Please pray for her. She is handling all of this herself.
