  1. 🙂 We had a nice, uneventful fourth. Fireworks started banging around eight, ended abruptly around ten.

😦 Dr. Jones isn’t teaching tomorrow. I am. An important lesson, but I’m not looking forward to it.

:-I I went to the doctor about my leg. He didn’t see anything wrong. I expected that.
He sent me to have a bunch of X-rays. Dr. pointed out that the right leg is somewhat larger than the left. I hadn’t noticed that. Maybe swollen somewhat. 🙂 Advil is helping somewhat.

🙂 DIL sent a picture of all four great-grands yesterday. A bunch of good kids.

  2. 😦 😦 Going to the funeral today of a dear friend and mentor. She was a good and brave woman, facing danger, heartache and poverty in the service of the King. We will miss her so much. Keep praying for her husband.

  4. 🙂 All those getting together today

😦 Those of us who aren’t

🙂 Looking forward to hearing all about it

🙂 Sunshine today, but very humid – unusual for us.

😦 Horse flies came out this week – ugh

😦 Cat is still missing. We’ll never have another cat like him.

  5. 🙂 We survived four parties in four days. (Well, I did anyway–I was the only one at all four. My husband survived three, being exempted from the baby shower.)

🙂 We got to see–and photograph–displaying wild turkeys. (I also got photos of a groundhog in my backyard this afternoon.)

🙂 We have a generous crop of wild black raspberries on the back fence. Older daughter has already frozen a quart, and there are plenty more where they came from.

🙂 Mockingbirds like them too. I’ll gladly share fruit with mockingbirds!

🙂 We have had a lovely, fall-like week.

🙂 Good contacts with at least one new, desirable publisher, and possibly with two. (This is for editing work, not writing. But I also have made decent progress on a writing idea I have.)

😦 A toe that continues not to heal several months after initial injury. But podiatrist appointment is next week.

  6. 😦 Lost cats and sore toes.

🙂 4th of July — but bittersweet for me this year as I’ve been felling so discouraged about the state of the nation.

🙂 Not a bad working holiday for me, spent outside overlooking the ocean (after a rare city council meeting I had to cover first in the morning).

😦 Shark attack on one of our most popular beaches today. Swimmer is in the hospital, sounds like he’ll be OK. But scary. And the beach was closed. Everyone out of the water, just like in Jaws. We’ve had an increase in great white sharks over the past few years.

😦 Huge dead rat in my backyard yesterday. Annie’s was working the holiday too, apparently.

😦 Loud fireworks last night that, as usual, rattled my dogs and sent Cowboy onto the bed with me at one point.

  7. 🙂 My husband strung up the 13th fiddle he has made and it sounds good. It will take a lot more playing to sound its best, but this is a great start. It is always a bit scary to see what the sound will be, since there is no guarantee and the maker puts in a lot of work to get to this point.

🙂 Got to meet our daughter and SIL for one of the 4th of July parades, so that we could join them and the four grandchildren. Always fun to watch them and the parade. After we left, they ventured to a park, which had a train on display nearby. They noticed the two and a half yr. old missing just before they made it to the park. After a frantic search, which included several strangers and at least one law enforcement officer, who happened to be there, she was found on one of the trains. She didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. She just wanted to see the train up close and personal. The rest had walked on by it, not realizing she just went up the steps by herself. That is what ages parents. There was water near by and you never know who is at these crowded events, so they were very grateful to find her, safe and sound!

  8. Kare – Praying your cat is okay & will come home soon.

😦 R is still playing games, regarding the custody arrangement. He purposely won’t take Forrest when he’s supposed to (some of the time that I babysit), but will call Emily to say he wants Forrest when it’s Emily’s time with him. She has been remaining firm, though, & not allowing that.

🙂 Lee took Forrest with him for a while yesterday to “pack out” (make sure the shelves have enough bread) a couple big supermarkets he services. Forrest had a great time with his Papa.

😦 Heidi has thrown up a few times since last night.

  9. Good for Emily, Karen. Forrest needs the stability and R needs to realize it is not all about him. Those will be good memories for Forrest. My children remember accompanying my dad to deliver plants to a department store. My folks had a greenhouse at the time.
