I have thought for a long time that a national health care would mean that almost all politics would be always and almost only about health care. It has happened and it is boring beyond belief.
I really like Paul Ryan. He will never be President because he has a habit of telling the truth. Moynihan was also right on several points. The leakage of reality of which he spoke has reached the point where there is very little left in American life.
Moynihan’s report illustrates a simple logical issue — identifying cause and effect. Or to be expressed in a more traditional sense; what came from first the chicken or the egg. And like that particular question its almost impossible to answer which, only that the cycle will continue and grow exponentially.
As for Ryan, he’s a bit hypocritical as he received Social Security benefits when he was young but now lectures on the culture of entitlement. In addition, the only job he has held outside politics has been in the family company. He’s really not a poster child for libertarian philosophy. In fact he’s the poster child for government entitlement culture — social security, subsidized tuition, government jobs etc. While those he condemns work minimal wage jobs in the private sector needing gov’t assistance to survive he’s been sucking at the gov’t teat. In fact, in looking at this personal history, he’s a classic case of climbing the ladder and then pulling up the ladder to prevent others from using. In addition his political history reveals a man who discovered fiscal conservatism only after Obama was elected — he voted for unfunded wars and unfunded Pharmacare.
Of all the major US politicians, only Ryan has spoken honestly about Medicare and proposed free-market reforms.
In 1960 both black illegitimacy rates and black unemployment were a fraction of their current levels. 54 years of liberal rule (interrupted only briefly by the Indian summer of Reagan) has brought us to our current sorry state.
It turns out I am a moderate among my fellow Texans. Two of my golf partners said they would vote for Putin for President of the US. When the citizenship issue was raised, one said he understood Putin was actually born in Hawaii, just down the hall from Obama.
