Good Morning!

It’s Friday!

On this day in 1795 the 11th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified. The amendment clarifies judicial power over foreign nationals and limits the ability of citizens to sue states.

In 1922 DeWitt and Lila Acheson Wallace offered 5,000 copies of “Reader’s Digest” magazine for the first time.

In 1940 “Pinocchio” world premiered at the Center Theatre in Manhattan.

In 1943 the U.S. government announced that shoe rationing would go into effect in two days. Women were hardest hit by the news. 🙂

And in 1962 the U.S. government banned all Cuban imports and re-export of U.S. products to Cuba from other countries.

Quote of the Day

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”

Charles Dickens

  1. Good morning!!! I posted late last night, but no one probably saw it! So, thanks again for all your good wishes–I had a wonderful day, filled with love from my little family. They made me feel very special and very loved. I even heard from all four of my siblings. My sister called me back last night, at 4:00 am her time, and we had a nice long chat. I am so proud of what they are doing–but, boy, do I miss her! They will be home for a couple of months beginning in August and I cannot wait!!!

  2. Great to hear you had a wonderful day for your birthday, Annms. 🙂

I hope 6 Arrows had a good day off from screen time.

I see the sun so maybe it will warm things up. It is all the transitioning between hot and cold that is rough on a person.

I am trying to use a stylus to help with my posting challenges. That brings on a new challenge of how to keep the stylus safe from Bosley, the one who is attracted to moving objects, especially unknown entities.

  3. Good Morning, Y’all!

    Some Friday thoughts:
    1. It’s Friday!
    2. It’s going to be in the 30’s this evening…so of course soccer season begins! It will probably be in the 80’s when it ends…looking forward to watching IBNO, Jr. in goal!
    3. It’s Friday!
    4. Peter L, I feel your pain on reconnecting with students after weather days…been going through that this week…

  4. Do you plan ahead for Valentine’s Day or is it a last minute rush to pull something together or is it just another day?

I am always having to plan ahead for special activities for Sunday School. I will be making hearts out of salt dough that can be painted and strung for necklaces to keep or give.

On the home front, it is just another day during the busy tax season. That is okay with me. Sometimes I have gotten a card and little box of candy from a friend who is single. Also, a few years back a tax client brought us a beautiful heart shaped cake, single layer, strawberry flavored inside and with strawberry frosting. It was memorable.

  5. Good morning! Ann, hope you had a great birthday yesterday! I haven’t read yesterday’s threads yet.

Thanks, Janice — we had a great technology-free day yesterday! I’ll report back later, as I’m on my way to Bible study this morning.

We have a birthday boy in the house. Today Fifth Arrow turns DOUBLE DIGITS!!

Hope you all have a great day!

  6. INBo, Is it Friday yet?
Good morning everyone. Busy day today.
I let my pet stay in the house, and I don’t care if the door is open.

  7. I don’t know what you people have been up to, but I fed the dogs, made the coffee, made chicken-walnut pate and am in the middle of making some other chicken dish that will be lunch tomorrow.
Busy day ahead but I am looking forward to it. I didn’t sleep much last night. Somebody snored! I couldn’t get warm on the sofa. I don’t begrudge him the sleep. Like AJ he is in constant pain and doesn’t say much about it. I am just jealous that he got sleep and I didn’t. Coffee should fix that.

  8. Bosley has just been looking out the window and crying and talking about how she would like to explore out there. I can see her being a great farm cat and rat catcher. She is super fast, and the vet talked about how high energy she is. It makes me sad to consider keeping her indoors for all her life, yet this is not the best neighborhood for an outdoor cat.

Ha! Guess I will just have to break the news to husband that we need to move to a better neighborhood because of Bosley. 🙂

  9. I’m still trying to get my head around the concept of shoe rationing. 😮

We had a rainy day and night yesterday, though the rain was light through most of that.

The dogs came in drenched from the backyard last night, I had to make sure they didn’t get into my bedroom and jump on my bed with those muddy paws!

Anyone watch the Olympics last night? I watched the ice skating and snowboarding before going to bed. Doc Martin also is back at long last, the 6th season (probably the last) began last night after a nearly two(?)-year gap between new shows.

  10. Well, let’s see…swept the snow from a couple of decks, fed and watered the goats, fed and watered Jake, fed and watered the guinea fowl, fed and watered Spud, fed and watered children, cleaned the stove, started a fire, refilled the pellet stove in the school room, made dinner, did my dishes, and am now eating my oatmeal. It is nearly time to start the day. Husband and a couple of daughters may not make it home today with lots of snow between them and us.

  11. Maybe that’s why there’s this urge for women to collect shoes. Something in our genetic memory warns us they may someday be endangered.

Cat & dogs fed. Time for my oatmeal.

Happy birthday to the 10-year-old, 6 arrows. 🙂

  12. The Real – I object to your stereotyping of women 😉 😛 Just because many women like a lot of shoes, doesn’t mean all women do. I currently own three pairs. Last year, I wore one pair of sandals all the time. I certainly could have taken the rationing. The real people who would have been hardest hit were the designers of shoes, but then, they probably were doing something more interesting, like designing fighting gear. The cobblers probably had a brisk business, repairing those three pairs of shoes.

  13. Pouring rain here! La di da! That was us doing a Gene Kelly imitation as we walked around the park. My umbrella got wet for the first time . . in over a year!

They’re saying 6-8 inches expected (we got nearly one inch the other day); we need a foot to make it to the bottom of the drought chart, we’re so parched. So bring it on!

And, of course, THANK YOU, God!

  14. Roscuro,

    🙂

There are a lot of shoes here that belong to my wife. I could send you some if you have tiny feet like she does. She probably would notice them missing though. I think she names them or something. 🙂

  15. In the AF, we had two pairs of brogans and a pair of dress shoes. In Basic training we had to rotate the brogans. I have a pair of sneakers I wear everywhere, except to church on Sunday morning. Elvera used to have several pair of shoes, but she now uses only one pair of some expensive flat soled shoes. She never wears heels anymore but for very special occasions. e.g. Mary’s wedding.
If Aj gave away a single pair of his wife’s shoes, she would miss them.

It is my birthday here in PNG today and my son’s in the states. When I cross the dateline and leap ahead, we then share a birthday.

  19. Annms, It sounds impressive but really is not that much.

Husband and daughters decided not to drive up today, quite a bit of snow between us. They will probably try tomorrow. The doctor told husband that the blood work indicates husband should be in a lot more pain than he is. Not terribly encouraging.

Meantime, I am still wondering if I am fighting pneumonia. I suppose if this continues, I will have to go see a doctor. Again.
