Prayer Requests 10-31-13

Who has a request or praise to share?

Psalm 72

¹Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.

He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.

The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.

14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.

16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.

19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

  1. We had the story of David and Goliath this week and last week we talked about David the shepherd, who was faithful to work unto the Lord. We even shared some of his psalms.

  2. Not a prayer request or praise, but an observation, here because the Psalm is here. We were discussing the subject on another thread a couple of days ago.

    Q. Does it occur to anyone that this is an eschatological psalm?
That’s the way the Jews saw it.
During the reign of the Son of David:

He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.

3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

etc. the entire Psalm. Why were the Jews looking for a deliverer?
    They believed their Bible.

  3. Prayers, please, for my sister in Africa. She is struggling with being so far from family and everything familiar. Her eldest child is in college in Texas; her next two kids are in boarding school in Kenya; and our mom’s health isn’t good. So, she is spending most of her time alone with her youngest, a 13 year old boy, whom she is homeschooling. Her husband works crazy long hours at the hospital and even when he is home, he is often busy preparing for the next days surgeries. She sent me an email this morning requesting prayer and I got permission from her to include her request on this thread.

Also, I’d like to request prayers for myself. Yesterday was a difficult one homeschooling Becca. She was uncooperative and has an extremely low frustration tolerance. Please pray for patience for me.

Prayers needed for Becca, as well. She’s really down on herself right now, frequently calling herself stupid. She has very little confidence in her abilities, especially in relation to math. Evidently, kids were making fun of her at school b/c it would take her longer to comprehend things than them. My heart is breaking for her.

  4. Make sure she’s got the basics down, Ann, or you’ll continue with futility.

Tell her that sometimes we missed one piece that makes the entire structure wobbly. Maybe even make a Jenga puzzle, or stack some blocks and show how if you don’t understand one concept, it’ll be wobbly and ou can be frustrated and confused for a very long time.

My nephew learned to read during the “look and say,” method of reading theory. He didn’t get it. He didn’t learn to read well nor enjoy it for 12 years, even though his mother took him to specialists. He’s doing beautifully now and is nearly a college graduate, but missing that one piece threw him off course for years of personal frustration.

I missed school they day they taught what verbs and nouns were. I spent years wishing I knew . . . kids don’t know what they don’t know and they’re embarassed to admit they don’t know something. So if you start simple and build, you could find a hole.

    Blessings to you.

  5. Praying for you and Becca, Ann. I have some advice I would like to offer you, too, but I won’t if that is not what you want. Don’t be afraid to tell me, “No thank you” if it is prayers only that you desire. That won’t offend me.

I’m praying for your sister, too.

  6. Thank you, Michelle. I appreciate your wise comments. I ordered curriculum for both first and second grade, precisely because of the deficits that were discovered in the testing at Step by Step. Evidently, kids with visual processing disorders often have much difficulty with math, which is what I’ve been seeing the last few days.

  7. 6 arrows: I’d love to hear your advice. If you feel it’s too personal to share on the web, you can email me at annmstrawn@sbcglobal.net. I really appreciate any and all advice from the regulars on here. I have much respect for you, 6 arrows. Thank you for your prayers for Becca, my sister and myself.

  8. Thank you, Ann; you’re so kind. I have a lot of respect for you, too. You and your husband are doing wonderful things for both of your daughters.

Thanks much for providing your email; I’ll send you one later today with “6 arrows” in the subject line so you know it’s me. 😉

    Blessings on your day.

  9. I have been praying for Becca, too, Ann. I did leave a comment on the prayer page of the 29th. Not sure if you saw it. I feel for you both, as it must be frustrating for you both. With hard work, one day it will all ‘fall into place’ like the key to a Sudoku puzzle. Then she will wonder why it seemed so difficult. Each plateau is like that, whether math or music etc.

  10. Heavenly Father,

We look to You as our only source of comfort and help in trouble times. Sometimes the troubles pile up like mountains and other times they are just a bumpy rutted road that we spin our tires in. Lord, I lift up all on this site today at this moment for whatever situations they are dealing with. Please help them to feel lifted above whatever is giving them stress and grief. Jesus knows the burdens of each of us and our loved ones. Please give us strength and peace for these days.

In particular, Abba, I lift up the sister of Annms that You would help her as she feels so alone at times in her struggles. Help her as she feels so far away from many of her family members and unable to give her love in daily doses to all her children as mothers like to do. Help her to be content with the knowledge that her husband is making the lives of many better and that her sacrifice of time with him is for Your greater purpose. I pray You will give contentment and recognition of the blessings that are before her if she will look for them and away from what she is lacking. Help her to feel the richness of Your love for her and the son she has been given responsibility for homeschooling. May she present a joyful attitude about the many learning possibilities that are present in her current environment. I ask that you would allow her to find an online group of friends such as we have here that may be supportive and share in her burdens. Please bring good Christian books to help her as she goes through trials similar to what others have gone through. Please renew the joy of salvation that she has known. Thank you for the ways You are blessing her even as I write this prayer. You are amazing in all You do over and above what we think to ask for.

Lord, I also lift up Becca’s needs to You. You made her and know her strengths and weaknesses. Show her ways to cope, to compensate, so she can steadily move forward in her learning. Please help Annms to find others who have been through these struggles and who have found some things that work. You have provided the Internet and all its capabilities for interaction. People are out their who want to help by sharing their experiences. Please, may Annms make those divine connections that You enable. You are the One Who weaves the threads that hold together the tapestries of our lives. Please, sooner than later, weave helpers into the lives of Annms and Becca.

Thank You, Lord, for all the ways we can trust in You to do good in the world. It will be awesome when Jesus is with us. We wait

  11. kathaleena: Thank you for praying us. It means the world to me to know we’re being remembered to the only One who can help and enable me to be an effective homeschool mom. I am completely dependent on Him in all of this. I do feel peace about my decision, though I suspect it will be challenging. I have been in prayer each morning before beginning our day together. It is helping. My eyes and heart are able to hear her in a way I never have before. She is so sad and angry. And, my heart aches for her. On a positive note, she had a magical Halloween, trick-or-treating with her daddy and a friend and her parents. She came home after about an hour and a half, with a basketful of candy and a big smile on her face. I was delighted to see her sparkle!

6 arrows: I got your email and will respond a little later. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I so appreciate the wisdom of more experienced homeschool moms, as I never imagined I’d be doing this until fairly recently. And, thank you for praying!
