  1. Do the cartoons we see on Friday appear in any of the MSM? I see some of them on our Saturday roundup of cartoons in the Times-News
Have you noticed how the ads on the side change as you click back & forth?

    Mary is our middle GD.
Mary had pneumonia and was in the hospital. 😦
    But she’s out now. 🙂
Mary is expecting a little guy they named Graham. 🙂
He is due early in January
There is a baby shower for Mary in Greensboro today, 🙂
I am taking Elvera to Greensboro to attend the baby shower. 🙂
We may come home after the shower. 🙂
But we may stay over and return tomorrow. We have packed to stay over and attend Friendly Ave. BC tomorrow. We’re kinda flexible.
In any case, I will likely miss the Carolina/Mizzou game. 😥

  2. 🙂 My dad came home from the hospital. My brother has stepped up to do something uncomfortable for him in helping make that possible. He and my SIL often help out when they are able to do so, without complaining.

🙂 We were at the hospital when there was a mix up and quite a discussion of what may happen. The nurse on duty was so helpful and sensitive, which I really appreciated.

😦 Family members who make everything about politics. Those who make everything far more difficult than necessary. Those who only see the worse in others or who refuse (or cannot) see anyone else’s point of view.

🙂 So much fun attending “Arsenic and Old Lace” at an old mansion and seeing my SIL acting again. Two more shows ( in addition to two weekends full already) were added and sold out immediately.

🙂 Being able to visit with most of my grandchildren and two of my daughters.

  3. 🙂 Off to San Francisco to the annual Author’s Luncheon for Kidney research. Should be fun, entertaining and I know the food will be excellent.

🙂 Very busy week ahead. We’re dog sitting, two Navy wife pals are coming back to back, I’ll be interviewed with two fun authors on a TV show, I start up teaching my Matthew Bible study again and work continues on my WWI novel. There’s every hope I’ll finish up the first third–London–and be on to Egypt by the time my boss returns from her vacation.

🙂 I love the rhythm of the writing. You have to sit a long time staring at the computer, and my forearms ache by the end of the day, but it’s wonderful.

🙂 As a writer, a shout-out to the Internet. It’s so amazing how I can glean information about the most arcane subjects with just a handful of clicks. Truly a glorious time to write, but also a shaking finger at all those who don’t do proper research.

🙂 😦 Of course the research is also time consuming and full of rabbit trails. 🙂

    🙂 Life is good.

  4. 🙂 Hubby laid the fire in the furnace this morning before he left so all I had to do was put a match to it.

🙂 Small group Bible study last night. 😦 Half our group couldn’t be there due to illness and scheduling issues.

🙂 We’re going through the ‘seven deadly sins’ and learning our weaknesses and how to turn them to strengths in order to strengthen and grow our church community

    😦 Another migraine this morning

🙂 Very few migraines the last 3 weeks

🙂 Hubby stepped out of his comfort zone yesterday and invited our closest neighbours to our Bible study. They said they would love to come, but had a meeting to make decisions about their elderly parents last night. They want us to ask them to next time!!!

  5. 🙂 I had a wonderful short getaway with my husband (the whole household got away at the same time–our younger daughter took a car trip with friends and Misten got to stay with our pastor and his family).

🙂 I got to see and photograph some bald eagles. (I’ve only had two previous sightings of bald eagles, both quick ones of flying birds.) We also found out some places to go to see lots of them in the winter; apparently quite a few of them winter in Indiana.

🙂 I got to see and photograph exquisite fall beauty.

🙂 I’m finishing a book I’m making of butterfly photos and another of hikes in Indiana–30 pages and 100 pages, respectively. (The “hikes” book could easily be much longer; I keep deleting photos and pages to make room for the new photos, but I think I have it where I like it now.)

🙂 We got to explore two new state parks (Turkey Run and another one) and two very good restaurants, as well as getting a very good rate at a decent hotel, and my husband got to see several covered bridges (I did too, but they are his “thing” and not mine).

🙂 Since I did housework and laundry last weekend before we left and we were gone most of the week, I got to go a week without such chores (and very little cooking or dishwashing).

🙂 After a nice break from editing projects, I have several small projects and one big one.

  6. 🙂 Loving Saturday after having one of the busiest weeks at work in some time with field assignments and daily stories to turn around every day. (And I probably especially noticed the frantic pace after being out sick late last week).

🙂 😦 Best story was Friday’s on 4 WWII vets (survivors of a ship that sank off the Philippines in 1944) who were in town for their annual reunion (they meet each year in different places throughout the country to hold a memorial service on the day of the sinking). Sadly, I didn’t have nearly as much time as I hoped I would to do interviews — I’d hoped to spend a couple days on the story but with other assignments I had to do the whole thing pretty much in a day. So I wasn’t particularly happy with the way the story turned out, it could have/should have been so much better. But I guess you could say that about a lot of things … Frustrating, though.

🙂 On deck for next week: a story on a GP who’s retiring at age 90 and a local election story (for a city I know very little about). 😦 Our staffing remains so depleted and another reporter left yesterday to transfer to one of our papers in NJ; he and his wife are east coasters and had wanted to get back there, so it worked out — but, of course, no news yet on whether he’ll be replaced so now we’re one more person down. 😦

😦 We were crying/laughing yesterday about how we used to do these huge good-bye lunches — we’d take up two very long, reserved tables at a popular Mexican restaurant at the pier. Now it’s maybe a booth or two at a fast food joint. 😦 And even that got cancelled yesterday when the guest of honor couldn’t make it.

😦 Also next week: jury duty. I called and I don’t have report on Monday, but probably Tuesday.

🙂 It’s feeling like fall out here, nice cool weather, overcast gray skies, our wonderful bank of moist air and fog moving in from the ocean every night. It’s still very foggy outside this morning.

  7. 🙂 A new grandniece born early this morning — first baby for my 18-year-old niece and her husband. Mom and baby are doing well, and baby caught on to nursing right away. 🙂

  8. Chas- I won’t get to watvh the Mizzou-SC game either since it is on a cable channel. 😦

🙂 Nice enough weather for outdoor work.
🙂 Got the leaves mulched into the grass as I mowed, but the wind is sending more onto the lawn. Oh, well. Those can just rot where they land. I never can understand why people rake and bag leaves, then go and pay for lawn food. Don’t they know that God made the leaves to nourish the ground?
🙂 Got the oil changed on the minivan. We sure put a lot of miles on it. I bought it last November with 20k miles on it. It now has 45k in 11 months. But then, I drive it at least 30 miles a day to work and back. When it’s my turn to drive the carpool and have to teach the night class at the community college, i put over 100 miles on it. Plus we took two major trips this year. One to Texas and one to New England. Maybe 25k miles in one year isn’t my norm.

Gamecocks spotted the Tigers 17 points going into the 4th Q.
    24/7
They won by a field goal in second OT.

Weirder than the time The Citadel beat SC when Chuck was in school We saw the game.
Citadel scored with less than a minute to go. Recovered an onside kick and scored again.
First time Citadel beat SC since 1951. First time at Carolina since 1901.
The article (The) is officially in the name of the school. i.e.The Citidal.

BTW How do you like my little poem up there?

    😆

I added the last line after I went back and read the postll

  11. 🙂 I begin homeschooling Becca Monday.

    😦 I won’t have curriculum until Thursday.

🙂 Hubby is finally on board with me homeschooling her.

🙂 I get to withdraw her from the public school on Monday. This will give me great pleasure!

🙂 Never having to prove to the administrators that my child was actually ill ever again!!!

😦 I found out Friday at the testing for Step by Step that Becca has some huge gaps in foundational knowledge. We have a lot of work ahead of us.

🙂 The peace I feel over the decision to homeschool at this time. I asked God to make it clear to me, and He did!

🙂 Forrest turned three on Friday! He called the cake Emily made his “Happy Birthday Cake”. When Emily told him he was now three, he asked, “I fwee? I not firty-nine [39]?” And he told her he is now old enough to drive. 🙂

  14. 🙂 And tonight, it was really chilly (again!) at the dog park. Supposed to be a little rain possible tomorrow.

🙂 Crazy bunch of dogs tonight — and always fascinating what a diverse “people” crowd it draws. Tonight we had a real estate salesman, cabinet maker (part-time surfer), dentist, high school math teacher, AAA dispatch person, animal rescue staffer, and a young mom who’s moving to Minneapolis (as of tonight — she stopped by with her baby to say goodbye to everyone).
