Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks Week 6

It’s been a long week and I’m behind schedule. Sorry folks. I even missed the fact that the usual tie breaker game (Arizona) is Thursday night! (It starts in a couple of hours from when I am typing this.) So I’ll use my adopted home state’s team for the tie breaker, especially since it is of greater interest. The Mizzou Tigers get to visit the Georgia Bulldogs. Sorry, Chas, but another cat and dog fight. The other feature game is the Pillow Fight), in which two winless teams try to eke something positive out of this season. Miami (Ohio) travels to UMass in a battle to get out of ESPN’s Bottom Ten list. Without much further delay, here are the ten games for your prognosticating pleasure:

1. #12 Oklahoma vs. Texas  — The Battle of the Red River. Always a big game. Perhaps for Texas, not another big loss.

2. #17 Florida @ #10 LSU  — The Gators and Tigers. The SEC at its best.

3. #14 South Carolina @ Arkansas  — For Chas. At least his favorite team isn’t playing Tigers this week.

4. Navy @ Duke  — The Midshipmen get another mention in our little pack of pigskin players.

5. Nebraska @ Purdue — Because Chas likes Purdue. And there are no other B1G Ten teams on the list this week.

6. Boston College @ #3 Clemson — What can I say? Clemson looks like the real thing this year.

7. Western Carolina @ Auburn – The Tigers against a Carolina team that can’t decide if it’s North or South.

8. Boise State @ Utah State  — Maybe Mumsee will take the hint that she should join our little contest.

9. Pillow Fight: Miami (Ohio) @ UMass  — UMass has never beaten a Division 1-A team since moving up last year. Can they do it this week?

10. Tie Breaker: #25 Missouri @ #7 Georgia  — Tigers and Bulldogs. My alma mater was a Bulldog school just 90 miles away from Mizzou.

Remember: Enter before noon on Saturday. Guess the winners of the ten games, as well as the score of the tie breaker. You just might join the PPPPP Hall of Fame.

Last week’s results: Chas won with 9 correct. Inbutnotof, AJ and Kbells had 8. JaniceG, Kim and I (Peter L) had 7, and Cheryl had 4. Past winners: Adios, Kim, Tychicus, Mr. Kbells and Chas.

  1. Oklahoma – Texas thinks blocking and tackling is bullying.
    LSU – home team wins
Arkansas – I like them and SC has a cancer on its team.
Duke – I ‘d feel better about the pick if it were basketball.
    Nebraska – Sorry, Chas.
    Clemson – South over North.
Auburn – This team will beat someone good.
    Boise State
Miami – Bet against New England.
    Georgia 42 Mizzou 24

  2. Louisville did beat Rutgers. I have nothing special for Louisville but Charlie Strong was defense coordinator for Carolina. Everyone loved him. I would like to see him come to USC when Spurrier leaves.

  3. Chas’ Guesses:

Oklahoma over Texas (Sawgunner would hate this.)
LSU over Florida (A tough one to call)
Gamecocks over the Hogs. (I’m really fearful about this. We need defense badly.)
Navy over Duke (doubtful about this)
Purdue (I have to go with Purdue anyhow)
    Clemson will beat BC
    Auburn will beat Western Carolina
    Go Boise! Beat Utah St.
    Miami Ohio over U. Mass.
Georgia 14, Missouri 7. Sorry Peter. However Georgia has lost some key players since they beat SC. And Tennessee gave them a fit. Missouri has a chance.

  4. Here we go…
    Oklahoma is OK
LSU – Florida is WAY overrated
    Arkansas…No Clowney…No win!
    Duke…ACC Loyalty
    Nebraska
Clemson…although this is the type of game that they like to blow it in…
Auburn…really Peter, you couldn’t find something better?
    Utah State…Sorry Mumsee
Miami (OH) – always a decent team
and in a surprise move for a GA resident…Mizzou 24-21. Georgia has way too many Injuries and Mizzou is much better than Tennessee

  5. Chas- Don’t apologize for not picking Mizzou. They are good, but I think it will be a few years before they take over the SEC.

    My picks:
OU – I never root for Texas. growing up in Arizona I got tired of cocky texans coming through and thinking we were second class people.
LSU – Home field. And I don’t care for Florida teams, unless they are playing a Texas team or ND.
SC – Hey, now that Missouri and Arkansas are in the same conference, I have to root against Arkansas. (Although if a razorback and a tiger had a fight in the wild, I’d say the razorback would win. Mean animals, they are.)
Navy – Go Navy! Beat everybody else you play!
Nebraska – Holding my nose. When Nebraska and Mizzou were in the Big 12 together, there were several times Nebraska won the game because of bad referee calls. I know, I shouldn’t blame the team. But now they are a rival of Iowa, and that is were Mrs L is from.
Clemson – It has to be their year.
Auburn – Is this even going to be close?
    USU – Sorry Mumsee.
Georgia 38-27 – See? I even think Mizzou can’t win on Bulldog turf.

Oh, and I see USoCal got it’s game together last night. Too bad it has to happen against Arizona. 😦

  6. really Peter, you couldn’t find something better?

Well, Florida State isn’t on the schedule that I could find, so I went with a blog favorite.

And I see I forgot to pick the Pillow Fight: UMass – just because it’s about time they won a BCS-level game. And they are at home. And their playing a team that has to have it’s state listed in parentheses all the time.

  7. AJ- I just realized I made a mistake in the email I sent you. Could you correct it? I said kbells is a previous winner, when it was her husband.

Sorry Mr kbells for the error.

  8. Aj @ 12:15: Fixed.

kbells @ 2:55: I had already figured that’s what you meant.

One could interpret that you figured the contest is fixed. 😉

  9. Lots of surprises today: Texas over Oklahoma. Mizzou over Georgia. UMass winning a game. Auburn letting Western Carolina get a field goal. Navy only getting one touchdown.

It looks like Inbutnotof is our winner today! There are four of us tied at six as of now, with the Boise State game yet to be decided (BSU is leading 10-7 at this time). Since all four of us chose Utah State in that game, it really doesn’t matter the outcome. And, since Inbutnotof is the only one to pick the upset of Mizzou over Georgia, he gets the prize.

Congratulations, IBNO (I hope you don’t mind the abbrev.). Here is your virtual HIGH FIVE!

  10. Well, Boise State won, meaning we add 2 players to the 6 correct category. But Inbutnotof was the only player to pick Mizzou, so he is still the winner.

Final results: 6 correct- Inbutnotof, rickyweaver, AJ, kbells, tychicus and I. 5 correct: Chas.
