What should we pray for today?
Psalm 33:20-22
20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
The Kid needs to do very well on his History test today. He has already failed two of his history tests. I know he studied for the last one. I don’t know what went wrong.

Fightingthe cold I mentioned earlier on the Daily Thread…but mostly: My son has a Chinese friend at college who lost both his mother and his fiancee in a car wreck this weekend. He will not be able to return to China at this time. I do not know this young man or what his beliefs are, but I pray that the Lord gives him peace and that He can use this situation to draw him near…

Heavenly Father, I pray thanks for all the accomplishments of the past week or so. Sometimes You enable us to do more than we think is possible. Thank You that we can vote for the candidate of our choice. It was great to go to the polling location with my son and vote yesterday. I do pray more people will go before the last day so their vote will not be hindered by something that prevents them from voting on the last day. Please keep the process free from fraud. You know of those who would skew the elections and I pray You will halt them from being successful.
Lord, I lift up K-bells son for Your blessing while he takes his test. May he go into it in a peaceful and relaxed manner trusting he is well-prepared. May the questions only need to be read once and then the answer is readily available. I pray he will not mistakenly give any wrong answer. Please do not let any form of distraction come to his attention. I pray his test will be accurately graded and it will be a pleasing grade to You, to him and to his parents and teacher. Bless all the students taking the test with a good outcome. In the name of Jesus, Amen

Heavenly Father, I lift up inbutnotof (IBNO) to You for Your easing of the suffering from the cold. I thank You, Lord, that the illness is not more severe since I heard at the clinic that strain B of the flu virus has already been seen in our area. Colds can be rough on us, Lord, but one good thing is that when we get over them we always feel so much better and are not as inclined to take our good feelings for granted. May IBNO be strengthened to fight off this virus before it progresses any further. Please give the right treatment to lessen any severity and clogging up of systems that lead to infection. Thank You for Your ever working of healing into our days as we face a multitude of viruses that can invade our bodies daily. You are so good and often we don’t recognize what You do for us. Perhaps You have even given this cold to prevent IBNO from doing something that would be dangerous and more serious. We don’t know why we suffer such little maladies bu we trust in Your will being done for our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Lord, I also ask for Your comfort to be felt by the young Chinese man who has had such a loss to come into his life. It seems hard to imagine suffering such a serious blow to lose two of the most important people in one’s life at the same time. Help those who are his friends to give him comfort and a way to express his grief rather than bottling it all up. If possible, bring him to know of Christ who can comfort him in this great sorrow. May he not blame God for this tragedy. Help him to not fall into utter despair and a long depression. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen

Heavenly Father,
Please give traveling mercies to all in AJ’s family who have distances to cover to get to the family gathering to mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Howard. Please give comfort to ease the grief that becomes overwhelming to some. Please make hearts especially tender toward hearing the good news of how Christ has overcome death. May the hope of heaven engage every person with thoughts that there will be another family reunion where none are missing who are faithful to believe in Jesus. I pray there will be some children in the crowd as a reminder that life goes on and new generations take the place of older generations. Bless them all. In the name of Jesus, Amen

On Friday night, our church is having a special service, & Pastor Kris says God has given him a special message for that service. Please pray that our Christina (Chrissy) will choose to attend with us. She seems to be “holding back” spiritually, but I believe God wants to do something amazing in her. Please pray for her heart to be willing.
One thing that would prompt her to go with us is if her friend Allie comes, too (they spend Friday nights together each week). Allie’s mom has accepted my invitation to come, & said she will plant a seed in Allie & her older sister, to come with us.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for pastors who make the effort to do special events to draw people to You through the work of the Holy Spirit. I pray for Karen’s daughter, Chrissy, along with her friend that their hearts would be open to hearing this message. May there be a nugget of eternal treasure that can find its way into their hearts and minds. Our world is in such turmoil now, Abba, that we know our children need to know You for whatever they may face in the future. We are praying Lord for these young people that You would hear our concerns and act now rather than later for we do not want them to suffer from turning away from You and Your plans for the best for them. Please bless Emily and Forrest today, also, as You are busy handing out blessings to those in need. Help them to see You as Creator especially during this lovely fall time of the year. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen

Father God, I ask that You would bless David as he goes through the waiting to hear results on his biopsy. Waiting is so very hard on things like this. Guide him through a process of learning to put it in Your hands while he waits. Help him in acceptance of Your answer to his situation. Direct him to learn to trust in You no matter what. Of course, You know what we want. We pray for benign and hope for that. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Thank you for the heartfelt prayers. One of the reasons this blog family (wherever we are posting) has been so precious to me is because I know that I can count on them for prayer. I have also been praying that Yang’s friends are able to give him comfort.

Thank you, Janice, & anyone else who prays for my girls.
(Yes, I know they’re grown up, at 23 & 20, but they’re still “my girls”. 🙂 )

Karen, my son is 23. He is in his last semester at undergrad college (we think it’s the last but could go into spring semester). He is having some difficulty getting all the little loose ends tied up. He is a bit stressed, too, so if y’all can pray. He wants to glorify God and be living for Him and not just to make the next deadline that seems to consume him in his college work. He is at a very academically challenging college. He needs that, but he puts lots of stress on himself with his high standards. Thanks for praying.

Will do.
2 thoughts come to me about your son, Janice. The first is that making “the next deadline that seems to consume him in his college work” is indeed part of his living for God. His job right now is to be a student, to the best of his abilities. He doesn’t need to burden himself with the thought that he isn’t living for God as he pursues his studies.
The other thought I had was that being able to cast all his cares & worries upon the Lord, to stop worrying, stressing, & fretting, would be glorifying to God. Praying God will help him to do just that.

Thank you, Karen O. Those thoughts are exactly what I needed to hear so I can remind him.
