Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2016-Week 5

Week 5. By now some teams are out of the running for the big prize, like LSU and Notre Dame. Can they salvage something of the season? Find out Saturday. For now, guess the winners of the following ten games, including a Tiger match-up in Baton Rouge and an Irish visit with the Orange. Also, Tychicus chose the other Red River Rivalry for the tie breaker with the Cowboys hosting the Longhorns. Chose the winner and guess the score on that game. It could get you the opportunity for bragging rights.

Get your picks in by Friday evening 9:00 PM EDT!

  1. #7 Stanford @ #10 Washington-Friday night lights in Seattle which will have a deciding factor in the PAC 12.

  2. Navy @ Air Force – The first in the Commander in Chief trophy games.

  3. #11 Tennessee @ #25 Georgia – Can the Volunteers continue to dominate other SEC teams? The Dawgs at least get the home field.

  4. Purdue @ Maryland – I thought Chas would prefer this one over the South Carolina game against Texas A&M.

  5. #8 Wisconsin @ #4 Michigan – The big game in the B1G 10.

  6. Mizzou @ LSU – Two SEC Tigers who haven’t had much to roar about lately.

  7. #3 Louisville @ #5 Clemson – Can Louisville keep up its trend of bringing down top teams?

  8. Utah State @ #24 Boise State – Since everyone picks the Broncos when I have them here, I thought I’d include them again.

  9. Notre Dame @ Syracuse – The Irish were embarrassed by Duke last week at home. Can they regroup on the road?

10.Choose winner and final score Tie Breaker: #22 Texas @ Oklahoma St. – The Longhorns are ranked again. The Cowboys aren’t. Let’s see if that stays the same.

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2016-Week 4

And here they are. Ten college football games featuring teams from all over the country and of every imaginable level of competency. We’ve got them right here, folks. The good, the mediocre, and the bad. Maybe even an ugly one. Pick the winners of the most games and you too could win an “ATTABOY/GIRL” from a kind, elderly gentleman, PLUS the opportunity to choose the next tie breaker game. Or you can brag about it on the blog. So have at it, folks. This opportunity only comes up once a week for 14 weeks every Fall.

Remember: guess the score of the tie breaker game as well as the winners of each game by NOON Saturday, September 24.

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2016-Week 2

It’s week 2 in college football, so most of the top teams are playing “pushovers” (i.e.- smaller schools) this week, like Nevada at Notre Dame or Nichols State at Georgia. The small colleges do that knowing they are going to lose, but it gains them revenue. So the picks this week are mostly games of relative equals. We’ll start with the military schools and go from there. A few cross-state rivals play this week, mainly because they are not in the same conferences, so don’t play each other at the end of the season.

Kbells won it last week, so she chose the tie breaker game. Get your predictions in by 12:00 Noon Eastern Daylight Time (that’s 11:00 am Central, 10:00 am Mountain Time and 9:00 am Pacific). Those overseas adjust for your time zone.

1. Georgia State @ Air Force: Can Georgia Southern survive the high altitude in Colorado?

2. UConn @  Navy: Huskies and Midshipmen. Can the dogs sink them?

3. Rice @  Army: Owls and Knights. Interesting. A nocturnal bird against a team with the word “night” in its name.

4. Wake Forest @  Duke: Demon Deacons vs Blue Devils. Is the winner the greater of two evils?

5. Iowa State @   Iowa: Cyclones and Hawkeyes. Have you heard about the prof at Iowa that thinks the mascot is too agressive? Yeah, Iowa City is the Liberal capitol of the state.

6. BYU @  Utah: Can the Cougars go 2-0 against the PAC-12?

7. Washington State @  Boise State: I know what one of you is going to say, so I’ll leave it to her.

8. Penn State @  Pittsburgh: A cat fight in the city of steel.

9. Maine @  Toledo: Just because I don’t think I have ever put in a game with Maine in it.

10. Tie Breaker–  NC State @  Eastern Carolina: It was kbells’ to choose, but you choose the winner and the final score.

1. So Carolina @ Vanderbilt (Thursday night)

2. #3 Oklahoma vs. #15 Houston

4. #16 UCLA @ Tex A&M

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks “15-Week 14

Championship Week! This weekend most of these games are conference championships. The only exceptions are the tie breaker, which is a Big 12 match-up, and the Pillow Fight. The Big 12 doesn’t have an actual championship. The “unofficial” champion was crowned last weekend when Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State.

And since there is only one game next week, it is included as a bonus. We all know who is going to win that game, but pick the winner anyway. (Hint – Go Navy! Army

Editor’s note…..

Psalm 124

¹If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 46

¹God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
