Our students will have another month before school starts. If I had my way no one would start school before Labor Day or go after Memorial Day. That is how it was at one time. Resorts need workers and our summers are super short. Of course, there would be exceptions for those who need short term (usually two weeks at a time) to get some extra help to stay at class level. Sadly, our schools are not doing as well as they used to do, in spite of all the money they spend.
Morning! We are forecasted to be near 100 today! Ugh…
Schools start the 19th here except for one district beginning tomorrow. I think kids are burnt out and teachers must feel the pressure as well. Having a week off for fall break Thanksgiving break Spring break and nearly three weeks off at Christmas stretches the calendar. We didn’t have that when we were in school.
I really feel for the teachers here who have to work before the beginning and after the ending date. They truly deserve more off time for what they have to do in this age.
The weather here does seem to be coordinating with the school calendar. I felt a hint of fall yesterday which seems so odd for August inthe south. All the breeze, dry air, and ragweed blooming is keeping my nose stuffy.
I went into town to have a window screen repaired…five dollars is all they charged me at Ace Hardware!
The smoke is extremely thick here and my eyes burned and watered the entire time I was outdoors. We see only clouds and smoke no blue sky or sunshine today! I feel for those living close to the fires in the west…and those firefighters! God bless them…88 degrees here and hoping it has topped out…
How I long for Autumn, pumpkins and crisp cool air!
I am not longing for Autumn even though I do not like the heat. I was thinking of you when I saw the reports of all the smoke. We have not had it too bad, lately.
I was dreading my husband’s group performing outside yesterday. It was hot, but they managed to be under a canopy (mostly) and we managed to be able to sit in the shade. There was a nice breeze off the lake. It turned out to be quite pleasant.
Mostly got nothing done today. I took an early walk and that about did me in. Oh, and then I watered all my outside trees that I planted. On 100 degree days it is just too hot to do anything. I was going to do some leaf blowing but when I saw that it was already 95, I decided to skip it til it cools a bit..
