  1. “Senate passes DHS funding bill without additional funds for ICE nor major reforms for ICE. The bill now goes to the House where Republicans have signaled they’ll add in voter ID measures. Meanwhile, President Trump to sign EO funding TSA today.”

“Yes, although Democrats didn’t actually achieve anything. They caused a 40+ day shutdown & ended up getting zero policy changes to the agency they’re demonizing, which has been funded the whole time. And Rs say they’ll fund that agency further through reconciliation anyway. I guess the win was causing the harm and pain without really getting punished for it & showing unity in resistance.”

  2. An interesting article. We attended a small beautiful little church on Mare Island a lifetime ago. The chaplain was the second most senior chaplain in the Navy, a Navy Captain. Only the admiral in church of everyone was more senior.

Cap’t Bob never mentioned his rank, I don’t think I ever saw him in uniform. One day the detailer called to tell him it was time for him to change duty stations.

Cap’t Bob cleared his throat and explained he didn’t believe God wanted him to move yet.

There was a long pause and then the detailer (the person who shifts servicemembers between duty stations) cleared his throat and said, “I’ll have to talk to the Admiral about that.”

    “Go ahead,” said Bob.

The next day the detailer called back and said “the Admiral agrees with God.” Bob stayed another year or maybe two.

He was a Pentacostal Baptist and his wife led the women’s Bible study. I was 22 years old–“wet behind the ears” Navy wife.

I learned a lot from them, while I struggled to grow up! LOL.

Here are two blog posts I wrote–you’ll see Bob and Genece in the first about the wedding. The other is about the gorgeous Tiffany-windowed chapel as a backdrop to a funeral.

The second one is so you can see the pictures!

  3. The other thing about military chaplains is they’re a mixed bag. All denominations and faith groups are eligible.

We’ve had some excellent chaplains and some that were . . . less than helpful and more inept than anything else.

Curiously, the only people we knew who died on active duty were chaplains.

We honor the hearts of two wonderful men.

One went down in a helicopter with fifteen marines.

The other died of a heart attack while serving on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Indonesia following that terrible tsunami.

Very odd, the second one. An aircraft carrier has a hospital on it. It must have been a sudden heart attack.

The ship was there on a humanitarian trip to help survivors.

  4. Now to ditch this failure….

“John Thune has destroyed every single Senate norm that he claimed to cherish.

He set a far bigger and more dangerous precedent than abolishing the filibuster.”

    “This is true.

Few people are talking about how he has blocked all recess appointments by forcing some people to stay back to keep the Senate open,

Preventing Trump from installing any appointments when they’re at rec recess.

    Shameful.”

  5. Time to play hardball with these clowns.

I really don’t get why Trump doesn’t. They are the single biggest foil to his plans and policies, not Dems.

“Trump should declare the Senate is in recess by demanding they assemble a quorum tomorrow; when they don’t, make the recess appointments and let the Senate sue to stop them.”

“The Senate left but it’s not in recess. Thune is denying Trump the ability to make recess appointments via these tricky games. Trump isn’t talking about this. Maybe he doens’t understand? JD was in the Senate and could explain this. Why it’s not a bigger deal is a mystery to me.”

  6. What do the chaplains do when no longer serving in the military? The top chaplain for the Air Firce ended up being President at the Christian University where son is at. The man has moved on to be President at Liberty University. Two more were pastors at my parent’s small Presbyterian church out in the country.

  7. To his credit, even Johmson is calling out the BS from Thune and the Senate.

“Mask off moment.Speaker Mike Johnson QUESTIONS whether Senate Republicans actually read the bill they passed to the House before heading on recess.

Johnson then turned to the cameras and read a jaw-dropping section aloud for the media.JOHNSON: “This gambit that was done last night is a JOKE.”

“I’m quite convinced that it can’t be that every Senate Republican read the language of this bill, and I’m going to just read you one excerpt of it, because it’s pretty alarming, and it says everything that you need to know.”

“In section four…this is on page two of the bill….”

“It says, ‘The contents printed under the headings of this bill, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and border security operations under the heading of US Customs and Border Patrol and Protection shall have no force or effect for purposes of this act and amounts specified in the final bill under the subheading border security operation, and under the heading U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and under the headings of US Immigration and Customs enforcement, in the Department of Homeland Security shall be…ZERO.’”

    “We’re not doing that.””

“Senate Leader John Thune ripped for leaving DC “with his private escort” through the airport for recess without the SAVE America Act being passed

REP. RANDY FINE: “Looks like Leader John Thune is on his way out of town with his private escort, as the SAVE America Act gets left behind. This is very disappointing. I am willing to stay in Washington as long as it takes to get the job done.””

  9. “Rep. Roy: “It is absolutely offensive to the people that we represent that the Senate would send over a bill that doesn’t fund Border Patrol and the core components of ICE.

Could the Senate be any more lazy than to send to us a bill that doesn’t do the job and then leave town? So we’re going to stand up and say NO to that. We’re going to send back a bill that’s responsible to the American people.””

  10. Someone explain to Thune that they’re never gonna like him, and this makes him look even weaker and more pathetic than usual.

    https://x.com/i/status/2037509467797856602

“Republicans cannot do this and survive. Immigration enforcement is not negotiable. It’s not something that’s “nice to have.” And look at the reward for even talking about compromise. They just dump all over you. And it won’t stop there. The House has to stop this suicidal lunacy.”

You even look weaker than Schumer, who at least knows whose side he’s on.

“After weeks of negotiations, Republicans caved to our demands to fund DHS without a blank check for ICE and CBP.”
