It’s the Ides of February. Should we beware? (Ides are the day before the middle day of a month, or the 13th day of the lunar cycle. I learned that on Wikipedia.)
Good morning from Fake Spring in Atlanta. The weather is beautiful. It truly lifts my spirits. All the years I was working, I did not notice the weather so much as I do at this age and stage.
Yesterday as I was raking near the street, a survey taker came by with her clipboard and asked if she could ask me a question. I hesitated a moment before answering yes. She told me she was wanting an opinion on Affordable Housing and she was with the AFLCIO. She wanted my name. I told her I did not want my name on a list. She was going to walk away so I commented she had a lovely day to be out doing that, and then I added, “Stay blessed.”
Yesterday on FB someone posted a question about what would be a food you ate during hard times that you still include in your meal plans. Several people said eggs with chips. I found out they meant bagged potato chips. I thought perhaps like fish and chips. I never knew people ate eggs and potato chips. It does not appeal to me. Am I the only one who never heard of that combo?
Kizzie, are you thinking runny fried eggs with potato chips or scrambled eggs with potato chips sprinkled in? The scrambled eggs might be okay to me. I was picturing runny eggs over the chips. Not a pretty sight to me.
Busy day cleaning. I have yet another Goodwill pile started!
Eggs with toast sounds good but not chips. When husband was in the Air Force we ate a lot of rice and corn! We were so poor and it was all we could do to buy formula for our baby. But the Lord He did get us through!❣️
We couldn’t afford chips when we were going through hard times. I do remember when a friend who worked for Lay’s or some distributor brought us a variety of chips and crackers. That was a treat.
We had a Lay’s factory probably a half mile from home. The daughter of the across the street neighbor worked there. We got some treats through her and got to attend a fun event for families of those who worked there. My family rarely bought chips except for me occasionally to carry Fritios and a sandwich for lunch at school.
We purchased big cans of potato chips when I was a kid. Charles Chips or Staubles. Staubles was a local potato chip factory in our town.
I took a summer school class in high school to get a history class out of the way to the upcoming school year and a friend’s Dad worked at P&G who was developing Pringles. Was that ever fun passing around those peculiar looking chips. Her Dad was in marketing and asked her to take them to class to get our opinion of the new product…I think she may have won over the heart of our History teacher. But Bobby Stauble was in our class and his Dad owned the local chip factory…he was rather chagrined as we raved about the new fangled Pringles chips!
Interesting evening. The power was out. I was taking a nap on the couch and it was dark when I awakened. So I had to figure out where my lights were and how to fix my simple dinner. Had to open a pack of matches to light my propane stove. But my battery pack lights worked great and I turned out the propane, fake wood, stove for heat and I did great. Storms due in this week so this was a preview for me. I think it was a vast power outage as i saw something on facebook.
Okay, I did some Christmas shopping. They have small camping stoves that just hold one pot and burn twigs. I had wanted one for backup in case we have to evacuate. They had a deal at 4 patriots where you could order four and get four free. I decided it would be a good gift for my older grands who do a lot of hiking and camping.
