  1. Way cool photo, Kathaleena. My first thought was that it was from Cheryl Extra!Extra!

    It was 20° but now it’s 26°.

I honestly don’t understand how people have been able to live in such long stretches of cold. I feel about done with it! I am so impressed by most of you. For me it seems like a constant battle I am not prepared for and we have not had anywhere near the worst of it.

I have thanked God for saving all the beautiful trees in Atlanta. We are known for our canopy which is rare in big cities.

  2. I hope you don’t, Janice, take a hit like Nashville that is. So sad for so many who have burst pipes etc.

I toured an historic site north of Nashville many, many years ago. It was a place where the guy who built the place lived in a tree for the winter when he first got there. We were told that it got -3 that year. I was shocked, because I never realized it could get that cold there. Imagine living in the hollow of a tree in that cold!

If you were brought up in cold weather, you would know how to deal with it, just like you do if it is way too hot. Frankly, I would rather have the cold. I can put on layers, but you can only take so much off when out and about.

Nevertheless, no one likes it when it gets far below zero. It is not good weather in which to work or play. There was a big hockey tournament held outside though, when it was far below zero. You have to know how to dress for it.

Now they actually have battery powered heated vests and handwarmers. The hunters take full advantage when they can afford it. I am grateful for cuddle duds and a long down jacket.

That is actually a great grey owl who visits us. We watched him hunting a gray squirrel once. It can take all the moles, voles and mice it wants. You can see it listening for movement below the snow. I was surprised that my husband could take the car out of the garage, (lots of garage door noise) warm up the car and we could both get into the car outside with that owl ignoring us. I did greet it, but it still ignored me. Evidently, quite snobbish.

  3. Janice – We endure cold weather just like you endure the hot, humid summers.

Michelle – If you’re coming in late June it’ll be busy at the cave. I give my Mark Twain performance on Mondays and Tuesdays, so if you come one of those days you can see it. (That goes for anyone else reading this post.)
