  1. Re: the 8:53am post from yesterday, which takes issue with this headline from a Reuters article, calling it “fake news”: “Exclusive: DOGE ‘doesn’t exist’ with eight months left on its charter”.

    Taking a look at the actual article, the “doesn’t exist” – which you may notice was punctuated as a quotation – comes from a quote from a government official:

    ~ “That doesn’t exist,” Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor told Reuters earlier this month when asked about DOGE’s status.” ~

    ~ “It is no longer a “centralized entity,” Kupor added, in the first public comments from the Trump administration on the end of DOGE.” ~

    The article goes on to mention the new government positions that some involved in DOGE now have.” ~

  2. I am thoroughly disgusted by reporters or politicians trying to justify people who steal identities or do other crimes. Shameful, shameful, shameful as Goober or some such used to say.

  3. In line with what Kizzie posted earlier;

    Recently, X began posting account info of each poster/user including country or region of origin for the account. My newsfeed blew up with reports of MAGA supporting accounts actually coming from Russia, Romania, Nigeria etc (pro Alberta separatists accounts came from the US). It seems many were foreign accounts used to amplify a certain point of view. Given that these accounts seem to have an ulterior motive rather than simply reporting news, AJ, will you stop using posts on X that masquerade as news?

    For example, look at the X posts on recent events surrounding Ukraine. The last few days, twitter has been amplifying an apparent breakthrough in the peace negotiations. My friends were sending me X posts about a peace treaty with only a few minor things left to do. I waited a bit read a few actual news reports and its seems we’re still not close — the so-called treaty is merely a translation of the Russian demands as Rubio admitted, the Europeans have said they are opposed, Zelensky has not approved, etc etc. Meanwhile its also emerged that Witkoff has been coaching the Russians on how to talk to Trump. Its clear X accounts were pushing the peace treaty story hoping to present a fait accompli before the Ukrainians and Europeans could stop the ball from rolling toward what would essentially be a Russian victory.

    I realise X does post accurate news at times but mostly its legitimate news organisations using their own X accounts. This is about X sites that are simply amplifying biased news and come from a foreign source and thus have an agenda. Why not post from FOX, Politico or other similar news groups that have some legitimacy.

  4. The problem is that many of those posts on X seem to intentionally twist the facts to fit their narrative. They share a headline or a quote or a video out of context and spin it in a negative way. All it takes to find this out is to look for the actual article or quote to see the full context.

    I rarely delve into these X posts, but when out of curiosity, for one reason or another, decide to look into one, more often than not, it turns out that, as I wrote in my first paragraph, the quote or headline has been taken out of context or a video from one event has been purported to be from another, etc.

    Go ahead and read X, but before believing or sharing, do a little googling.

    If we see an egregious quote or story shared about a politician or public figure whom we admire and/or support, we would automatically be skeptical and would check it out. But when we see an egregious quote or story about a person whom we dislike and do not support, it is so much easier to believe that false report.
