  1. Ugh! I walked in to work yesterday and 12 Days of Christmas was playing. Please, wait until after Thanksgiving! The hymns, like Silent Night, are ok anytime, but not the tacky secular songs.

BTW- Has anyone heard from DJ lately?

  2. Good morning!

I sent DJ a FB message congratulating her on the Dodgers win. She responded with a kind reply. I think she was tired of the differences in views and the expressions of some on the blog that she found unacceptable to her views of civil discourse, IMO. Everyone has their own personal limits of tolerance.

Mumsee wanted more discussions about God and His word than she found here so she has looked elsewhere to satisfy her need for that.

It is sad to see people leave, of course, and they are always welcome to pop back in as Kim has to share big happenings.

We are all growing older, and probably more set in our ways. Those who hope to change people will usually find themselves disappointed. Prayers are probably more effective than the same old arguments to try and get people to change just through the power of our words.

  3. Morning! It is cold and oh so windy! 36 degrees and with wind chill it “fees like” 26! Brrrr

I typically play Christmas piano instrumental music on Pandora. Husband tolerates that more than Jingle Bells! I will bring up the big tree with soft white lights, no decorations yet. It’s dark here by 5 now and we tend to sit in the living room and chat in the evenings…and mornings. No over the top decorations.

Husband and I were discussing the people in our lives where we differ on spiritual matters. One friend is no longer wanting friendship because I sincerely mentioned I would be praying for them after a cancer diagnosis. It somehow offended her. I still pray however.

Instead of standing firm on a position some would rather step away. That’s a decision we all must make according to our own tolerance threshold. This blog has been a blessing in so many ways. I do have other connections where the discussion is based solely on scripture and depth of direction in scripture. At times this blog touches on that understanding and the discussion is mostly encouraging here. Choosing grace in moments of disagreement has been a direction I sense the Lord leading.I do hope all find His leading to be just where He wants them…

  4. DJ and I are close friends, messaging each other each day. She has no problem with people expressing different opinions, and was well aware that she was in the minority on the news thread. The last time she commented on the news thread, however, she felt that the reply was even harsher than usual, and has chosen not to return. I keep her updated on important things like prayer requests.

  5. I just caught up with the weekend daily thread.

Peter, I attended my 50-year class reunion over the summer. Not only did I see people I hadn’t seen in 50 years, but there were two I was in kindergarten with 62 years ago. Did you see anyone you knew then?

I’m not sure what to think about all you people putting up Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving! 🙂

I threw out our 20-year-old Christmas tree when we were cleaning out the basement over the summer. It was my tedious job to assemble it and I wanted to find something easier to set up.

However I don’t know if we’ll have a big tree this year. Since we’re taking care of our baby grandson three days a week, the living room has a crib where the tree would go. There really isn’t any other good place for a big tree, so we might have to get a table-top tree. If we can clear all the stuff off a table!

  6. RK that has to be difficult. While we need to get a handle on the lawlessness of the past four years there is no excuse for treating others with anything less than compassion and dignity. I realize there are many here who are of the disrespectful and thug mindset but I would guess that would not be the majority. So very hard…

  7. Kevin – No one from Kindergarten, but 3 or 4 from 1st grade.

I don’t get on the political/news thread, as I get enough of that from other sources. One I like is The Pour Over. They advertise as “The News You Need. The Peace You Crave. Politically Neutral, Christ-First News”. I get their email Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I also get The Sift email news digest from WORLD Magazine.

  8. This blog does cover a variety of topics on three different threads. I feel a bit defriended by some. There are different times in life and different amounts of time we can spend in various places whether in cyberspace or our ‘real’ lives. I spend time with all kinds of people. Some are my Christian friends; some don’t believe at all. Some seem to actively work against God. Relationships come in all different kinds of time spent together, intimacy and grace.

I have an aunt who always told her family that anyone can tolerate someone for at least an hour. She was mainly speaking about extended family, but it does apply in many situations.

I can understand those who do not want to engage about politics. We are in a heated time and there are a whole lot of nuances that are difficult to discuss, especially online. I would hope that, however, would not mean no communication whatsoever.
