  1. Happy Friday, and maybe Funny, too, when I check out the link on Peter’s post.

Yesterday I went on a longer walk in the neighborhood. Many Halloween decorations are out. I also saw a few Harris/Walz signs. Somehow I found a bit of humor in the juxtaposition.

  2. I assume that is Michelle.

I have to agree, Janice and NJ, about bringing personal objects into the rooms of loved ones in assisted living. I usually do not see many of these spaces, but yesterday I was in a place where a few rooms are visible to me. Some had personal pictures on the walls and are cozy. Yesterday I was noticing one room with a woman which had nothing on the walls and was very stark. She does have dementia, but I cannot help but wonder if some decorating would not help her feel better. I am no expert, of course.

I was disappointed myself when I learned that certain items were not in my mom’s room when she moved away with my sister. I know these were loved by her and it saddened me. God never decorated our world in a strictly utilitarian way. We are made in His image. It is a sign of that to make our surroundings as beautiful as possible. I remember Edith Schaeffer talking about women living in huts doing that in the small ways they could. Everyone has different tastes, incomes and needs, but small things can make a big difference in how we feel.

  3. got a call to see the eye doctor two months earlier. So glad as some things are blurry

my new car insurance sent me my bill. Looking into it when I paid beginning August 23. They charged me for the whole month when I had other insurance. So now I need to dispute the bill. Not ok

also lodging a complaint over the horrendous decorations at the main gate to my community

feels like we’re in a battle

  4. Morning. It will be the warm before cool down today. I will drive Dec out on country rods and take photos of sheep… and pray.

Yesterday was intense. Our sweet friend was in the mind of moving out of her room… gathering all her things asking for boxes. She was insistent someone was throwing rocks at her and people were watching her. We got her outside singing hymns and prayed . We cried as we left together after two hours. This disease is so unkind 😢

  5. Oh, NJ, that is hearbreaking.

Jo, the battle is all around us. We take hits, but they are truly aimed at God. I have prayed as I pass by some houses for God to enter into the hearts of the ones who decorate in ways that indicate ignorance or rebellion toward God.

  6. We’re always in a battle, but often don’t recognize it until it’s “in our face.” For example, unbelievers with conservative values are just as lost as unbelievers with leftist values. The unsaved “straight” person is just as lost as the unsaved “gay” or “trans” person.

Oh, yes, dementia can be terrible, especially when it includes paranoia or some other emotional complication. Nightingale, as a nurse in a nursing home, has seen her share of that. One woman was a particularly sad case, because she was reliving the sexual abuse she had endured as a child, and would cry out about it. So heartbreaking!

I have heard, though, of some cases of dementia resulting in the person being happier. One man I used to know from my former church, who had been very stern before descending into dementia, became one who laughed and delighted at everything.

  7. Yes, left, right, or wherever one stands politically has nothing to do with salvation, except there may be some strong indicators as to what one is accepting of that is in true opposition to God’s Word. But God knows the heart. I am glad He is finally judge. He does give believers discernment from the Holy Spirit indwelling.

  8. Today the music group performed in an assisted living facility that they haven’t performed in since 2019. I was surprised how many people I know that are now living there. One woman has been in third place where the group has performed. Each place is a step down. She has a good spirit about it all.
