  1. Remember this next time some leftist tells you ADL is a reputable and fair minded group.

“Elon Musk has now publicly declared that the ADL harbors hatred toward Christians and has labeled the organization as a hate group.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, in his own words, compared Christianity to a virus and claimed it was the root of antisemitism.

He pointed to the historic accusation that “the Jews killed Christ” as fueling centuries of hatred.

Greenblatt concluded that being critical of Zionism automatically makes someone an antisemite.”

  2. “Christians in Nigeria never carried out massacres, never dug tunnels, never fired rockets, never took hostages, never started a war. They are simply a peaceful community, half of Nigeria’s population, who only wanted to live in peace. Yet they are relentlessly attacked by Islamic groups: their churches burned, their women and children slaughtered, their men massacred simply for being Christians.

And what is the response of the world? Silence.World leaders in Europe stand with those who massacre, with those who hold hostages—they rush to recognize a state for them. But when it comes to Nigerian Christians? Not a word. No speeches at the UN. No condemnation of Nigeria for failing to protect its Christians. No ICJ cases. No international fundraisers.

Where is the President of Colombia? Where is Brazil’s leadership? Where is Emmanuel Macron @EmmanuelMacron or Keir Starmer @Keir_Starmer? Why do we never hear them speak about Nigerian Christians? Why is there no aid sent to them? Why no protests? Why no university demonstrations? Why no global outrage, no media coverage, no flotilla sailing for the persecuted Christians of Nigeria.”

  3. It’s an assault weapons ban — you can still own handguns, rifles, etc. It’s meaningless but suburban Liberal and Quebec voters like it; both the NDP (socialist) and Conservatives vote against it.

The correlation between liberty and firearms is very weak. Gun ownership is very high in the US, Canada, Scandinavia, the Balkans, and some Middle Eastern countries (Lebanon, Yemen). Liberty and political systems vary in these countries. Interestingly rural Soviet Union had a high gun ownership rate especially among minority groups but that had no effect on the Soviet government. As well, Yugoslavia had a high gun ownership rate from the WW2 to the break-up of the gov’t in the 1990s. This had no effect on Tito’s dictatorship.

Authoritarianism occurs when rule of law is ignored and changed to rule by law. And without a free press to report the abuse of law it can remain in power. Gun ownership rates mean nothing.

  4. The way that the Lord was lifted up and the Gospel shared by so many at Charlie Kirk’s homegoing celebration was absolutely incredible. There may have been over 100 million viewers across all platforms.

VP Vance was deeply moved by the whole experience and in a great expression of humility insisted that he will now be much more open in proclaiming his faith in public. A great sign from the man who could very well be our next President.

  5. HRW,

Like all dictatorship, it starts with one type, and then when hunting rifles become the preferred method of defense, then they go after them next, and finally, handguns.

Like all authoritarian regimes, they raise the heat slowly, so the frogs don’t know they’re being boiled until it’s too late.

  6. AJ — A good metaphor and one I’ve seen in frequent use on the left on why they shouldn’t give one inch in defence against Trump’s slow descent into fascism.

For a decade, Clinton eras, the US banned automatic rifle type guns and never came for the hunting rifles. Sometimes that line of reasoning isn’t applicable.

In areas as disparate the ex Soviet Union, Scandanavia, Canada, etc., the existence of hunting rifles was not a concern for the government and didn’t influence policy. In any case, it did nothing to further liberty.

    Guns don’t correlate to liiberty

  7. Tychicus,

Vance was reprimanded by Francis and Leo for his interpretation of Christian love and compassion. In his view, it moves outward from the self, starting with family, friends, neighbours and moving outward in terms of priority. In other words, take care of your own first. As the popes point out that doesn’t match modern Catholic teaching.

I do find it strange that Vance chose Catholicism but apparently its not uncommon among right wing American intellectuals. The tradition and intellectual systems of Augustine/Aquinas appear more attractive than evangelicalism. Perhaps he should have investigated the Reformed tradition.

Apparently Peter Thiel and other technology intellectuals favour Catholicism. Thiel was Vance’s boss in the private sector. However, he is also gay so makes me wonder about his Catholicism.

  8. hrw: Vance is a government official and made those comments about ordo amoris in terms of immigration – we are a world of nation-states (not globalism) and each country is responsible for their own citizens first and foremost.

  9. HRW,

The fact that those popes and sat silently while politicians like Pelosi and Kerry were given communion after their fanatical support for abortion tells you all you need to know about those popes.

There words to Vance are laughable, and they’re posers at best.

    Spare me.
