I know many fell Donald Trump is a Christian. His statements at the funeral yesterday show me he isn’t. The specific statements I mean are these:
He did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them. That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent. And I don’t want the best for them. I’m sorry. I am sorry, Erica. But now Erica can talk to me and the whole group and maybe they can convince me that that’s not right. But I can’t stand my opponent.
Hatred is not a Christian virtue, love and forgiveness are. I hope someone can convince him he’s wrong. But he’s a stubborn, proud man. I pray he one day will repent and believe.
But also keep in mind that he is speaking of those who tried to assassinate him twice, tried to ruin him financially, and tried to put him in prison. He clearly hasn’t reached the point yet where he’s ready to forgive that. So unless we too have been shot in the head, and faced the full weight of govt brought to bear against you, we probably should be extending a little grace. Yes, even to the Bad Orange Man.
He would be well served by following Erika Kirk’s lead on this matter.
But to be clear, I say that for his benefit, no theirs. Let go of the hate, and watch as their TDS consumes them.
I had that same impression, Peter, though I had often thought he was (hopefully) a baby Christian. His words did not indicate it yesterday. I was super impressed by Marco Rubio and thought Tucker Carlson and JD Vance did good jobs. Tulsi handled Scripture well although I think she is Hindu. Erika was Christian excelllence.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Trump’s remarks weren’t unchristian. In a wry, self-deprecating way, he was pointing out his own understandable and very human impulse toward anger, while acknowledging that Charlie was a better man than him— a pitch-perfect note for a loving eulogy.
Furthermore, Trump is the personal representative of the state, which is Biblically required to punish crime and maintain order.
I appreciate all these thoughtful comments about Trump. He did seem to have a humble tone and an admission that he had a lot to learn. It still is hard for me to reconcile feeling he is not a 100% “IN” Christian (a fence sitter?) with how he has surrounded himself with so many Christians in his cabinet. Since he, as top leader, represents people of many religions, that situation might cause him to tone down on Jesus. It is all a lot to consider. Truly, only God knows for sure. I do know that there are some people that I feel have the Holy Spirit active and discernable, probably from the overflowing of the Fruit of the Spirit, and I have never felt that from Trump.
