Speaking of the Courts, Barrett and her fellow conservatives are tripping over themselves declaring there’s no constitutional crisis where clearly both the legislative and judicial bodies are sitting on their hands and allowing for the expansion of the executive.
Article 2 outlines the power of the executive but within the Article is citations for legislative confirmation and consent. The judiciary body needs to force the legislature to work…..its quite clear they are avoiding their work more than usual. (The US legislature has for for at least decade ignored actual work engaging only in a blame game)
The court’s recent ruling in favor of racial profiling is a bit contradictory — they just recently ruled that racial profiling is against the constitution when the Ivy League does it. There’s very little consistency here.
Barrett proclaims that they would do the same no matter who is president ….. but they ruled against Biden’s plan to forgive student loans……Biden was filling in for the absence of the legislature just as Trump is now (with far greater effect). The Fed is extremely non-political. And many presidents have complained in the past. From what I recall, the president can’t fire the Fed chairman and nor can he control it. The legislature confirms a new appointee every four years.
Trump has complained since Day 1 because he wants lower interest rates. As a real estate developer he instinctively knows lower rates will help people like him — investors, developers, and people who owe millions to the banks. Lower interest also provides an initial prompt to restart a sluggish economy. However lower interest rates will increase inflation.
Now the US economy was doing quite well, compared to other countries, during the Biden admin. Hence the reluctance to unnecessarily cut rates and bring inflation back. However, due to tariff wars and trade disruption, the economy has become sluggish — almost everywhere not just the US, but centred on the US. A rate cut would help the economy but unfortunately due to tariffs among other things the US now has a higher inflation rate than other OECD countries and thus rates need to stay higher to keep inflation under control (the last premise is neoliberal/Reagan dogma that I don’t agree with but its the Feds logic).
The above is one reason why the Trump admin wants more control of the Fed — lower interest rates. Lower rates also lower the US dollar and therefore attract domestic manufacturing. However, the other rationale behind the Trump admin is a desire to control the banking mechanisms within the Fed. The oligarchs would love to be able to control not just interest rates but the money printing, the information, debt and deficit payments, etc.
I expect more disinformation as the administration attempts to bring Powell and others into disrepute and bring the Fed under the control of the executive. Now the legislative and judiciary branches should bring some checks and balances into the situation but the legislature would rather be on holidays and Barrett’s protests not withstanding the Court has given Trump a blank cheque.

However, in this particular case I don’t think Qatar is lying. According to news reports, Israel informed the US, the US asked them not to, Israel said no, then the US informed Qatar about 30 mins before the attack. The US has become Israel’s messenger. Qatar has built a reputation as middle east diplomatic heavy weight mostly due to its neutrality and its role as a intermediary between various groups; Israel, Saudis, Houthis, ISIS, Lebanese groups, Iran, etc. To let Israel assassinate a group involved in US led negotiations would destroy their reputation; its far more plausible to see this as an Israeli operation since it hurts both the US and Qatar.

Trump reminds me of the bully who cries when he is called out. Over 25 years of teaching middle school, a type emerges. A supposedly tough boy crying that everyone else is liar, that any story not his own is untrue and he never ever was hit in a game of dodge ball. He needs to win everything and never does anything wrong.
Eight years ago I understood the reasoning — a conservative court would overturn Roe v Wade so evangelicals need to hold their nose and vote for Trump. Now there’s no need, I truly don’t understand how anyone can support a man so morally repugnant.

Who indeed. I firmly believe in God’s redemptive power to change a man. I just don’t see much evidence that it has done much for Trump lately. Both his spiritual advisor and the people he has chosen to empower lead one to suspect his biggest skill is conning evangelicals— most of which are happy to be conned because of his unconditional support for Israel, including the ethnic cleansing going on in Gaza.

Speaking of the Courts, Barrett and her fellow conservatives are tripping over themselves declaring there’s no constitutional crisis where clearly both the legislative and judicial bodies are sitting on their hands and allowing for the expansion of the executive.
Article 2 outlines the power of the executive but within the Article is citations for legislative confirmation and consent. The judiciary body needs to force the legislature to work…..its quite clear they are avoiding their work more than usual. (The US legislature has for for at least decade ignored actual work engaging only in a blame game)
The court’s recent ruling in favor of racial profiling is a bit contradictory — they just recently ruled that racial profiling is against the constitution when the Ivy League does it. There’s very little consistency here.
Barrett proclaims that they would do the same no matter who is president ….. but they ruled against Biden’s plan to forgive student loans……Biden was filling in for the absence of the legislature just as Trump is now (with far greater effect). And personally, I wonder if there will be a different president for Barrett to rule for or against in the near future. Maybe Vance, but the fix will slowly be in.

How is assassinating people on foreign soil a game changer? Israel has been doing that for decades. Arab countries like Qatar have routinely turned a blind eye to this the whole time.
There never was any serious peace talks. Israel only “talked” to keep the western gov’ts happy or to give them an excuse. Ethnic cleansing, a war crime, was always the plan. The hostages do no matter to Bibi — they are only good as an excuse to continue a genocide.

The Fed is extremely non-political. And many presidents have complained in the past. From what I recall, the president can’t fire the Fed chairman and nor can he control it. The legislature confirms a new appointee every four years.
Trump has complained since Day 1 because he wants lower interest rates. As a real estate developer he instinctively knows lower rates will help people like him — investors, developers, and people who owe millions to the banks. Lower interest also provides an initial prompt to restart a sluggish economy. However lower interest rates will increase inflation.
Now the US economy was doing quite well, compared to other countries, during the Biden admin. Hence the reluctance to unnecessarily cut rates and bring inflation back. However, due to tariff wars and trade disruption, the economy has become sluggish — almost everywhere not just the US, but centred on the US. A rate cut would help the economy but unfortunately due to tariffs among other things the US now has a higher inflation rate than other OECD countries and thus rates need to stay higher to keep inflation under control (the last premise is neoliberal/Reagan dogma that I don’t agree with but its the Feds logic).
The above is one reason why the Trump admin wants more control of the Fed — lower interest rates. Lower rates also lower the US dollar and therefore attract domestic manufacturing. However, the other rationale behind the Trump admin is a desire to control the banking mechanisms within the Fed. The oligarchs would love to be able to control not just interest rates but the money printing, the information, debt and deficit payments, etc.
I expect more disinformation as the administration attempts to bring Powell and others into disrepute and bring the Fed under the control of the executive. Now the legislative and judiciary branches should bring some checks and balances into the situation but the legislature would rather be on holidays and Barrett’s protests not withstanding the Court has given Trump a blank cheque.

Bibi released a statement saying the operation was Israeli planned and executed. Qatar has condemned the attack as a violation of their sovereignty. Not sure where AJs tweets get their news; the US and Qatar are not involved. Qatar has become a major player in the Middle East despite their size through diplomacy and neutrality. Its extremely unlikely they would toss this aside to help Israel kill not only Hamas leaders but a Qatari security team. The Hamas leadership were meeting to discuss a US peace proposal — the timing then suggests Israel is not only disregarding peace talks but is disregarding any initiative by the US. Israel is basically using the US and insulting them while they do it

However, in this particular case I don’t think Qatar is lying. According to news reports, Israel informed the US, the US asked them not to, Israel said no, then the US informed Qatar about 30 mins before the attack. The US has become Israel’s messenger. Qatar has built a reputation as middle east diplomatic heavy weight mostly due to its neutrality and its role as a intermediary between various groups; Israel, Saudis, Houthis, ISIS, Lebanese groups, Iran, etc. To let Israel assassinate a group involved in US led negotiations would destroy their reputation; its far more plausible to see this as an Israeli operation since it hurts both the US and Qatar.

As I stated earlier, it appears the US warned Qatar just before the attack….just early enough so they would not activate a military response but late enough so they could not prevent it.
Qatar has played a role as a diplomatic intermediary for Israel but after this attack (and the Gaza genocide/ethnic cleansing in general) I think they are done with that role. The Abrahamic accords which were supposed to be extended to include Qatar and Saudi Arabia are probably dead at this point…….
The US negotiated with the Taliban during Trump’s first term in Qatar. I wonder if Qatar would trust the US and the Trump admin to play that role again….
it seems like Trump’s first term successes are unravelling in his second term. Perhaps he should get rid of his second cabinet and go back to his first
