  1. Meanwhile in MN during the weekend we had the second worst air in the world, thanks to Canada’s contribution of smoke. It did keep us a bit cooler, though. We spent substantial time outdoors.

    Today we went to a memorial service for the father of the boy my daughter dated for about 4 1/2 years before he died at 20 in a car accident with his fraternity brothers. The father was 90. He said the birth of his one and only son was the best moment of his life. He married late in life to a woman with her own four children. He had a close relationship with his stepchildren in spite of their mother divorcing him. They gave him a beautiful, honoring service. The service was on the same day of the month that his son had his service back in 1995. It was day for good and bad memories. My daughter was happy she was able to be there, since she was already up for the family reunion and could arrange to stay one day longer. The family was happy to see her.

    These services can be so difficult and yet are so beneficial. I am sorry to see a trend towards doing nothing. I know of several cases of that.
