  1. Good morning, and happy birthday or un-birthday to Michelle!

We’re in June now, and one of many things I love about this month is that it’s baby season. We have yet to see our local fawns (I did have a quick look at a different one, back in May, that was stopping traffic); the same doe has had fawns in our development the last two years, and a new one is hanging out here now, so we may have two sets of fawns in our neighborhood this year, but we normally don’t actually see them till closer to the end of June. (We did see one on June 1 two years ago.) We’ve seen a baby rabbit, muskrat, and gray squirrels already, though.

And the baby birds have been delightful. I’m in my third year of observing the local heronry, great blue herons, and this year I’ve been also watching a nest of green herons, who just fledged yesterday. The lake with the green herons has also had tree swallow nests, and the last two days I’ve watched two fledglings being fed multiple times each hour (about every two to five minutes), and also have seen a juvenile orchard oriole and its parents. And there’s a local red-tailed hawk nest with two babies that are just about ready to fledge–yesterday I saw one baby fly over the other to the other side of the nest, and they’re within days of fledging when they start doing that. Plus, a mama mallard has brought her seven babies to the creek outside our house for the last week to ten days; as of yesterday she is down to six ducklings, but that’s pretty good for mallards. Of course I’ve also seen families of Canada geese on the lakes (with grown-up babies now), I’ve seen a mother wood dck with a few babies from a distance, and any day now we will start seeing baby bluebirds on our walks.

  2. We have a cedar bush between the house and a sidewalk that a nest was built in by a pair of robins. Their babies have already left the nest. I haven’t looked yet to see if there are more eggs. They certainly let us know they are unhappy when we walk by or, worse yet, work in the garden or mow the lawn!

I don’t believe I have ever seen green herons. The birds are so fun to watch. Creation is so amazing. How amazing is our Creator!

  3. You’re in good company, I’ve spent the morning, so far, responding to text messages with a similar theme.

Oldest son’s family currently is exploring Washington DC for a week.

Best quote came from the 6 year-old, who looking up at the Washington Monument proclaimed it 50xs taller than him, but only 40xs taller than his basketball-playing brother!

The rest of the family will be here for dinner tonight. I told them no gifts, but everyone needed to come prepared to tell a story. 🙂

    Whee!

  4. Happy Birthday M… age being a state of mind or so I’m told!🎂❣️

A resident in Palmer lake posted a photo of six stuffed animals found under her porch. The fox had made that area their den. The den was relocated leaving behind the toys the kits had “borrowed” from homes with children. Not much longer after she posted the photo to ask if anyone wanted the toys returned the kits had come back and took them all!😂

  5. Good afternoon! Great animal stories today for Michelle’s birthday wish for everyone to bring a story!

    Happy Birthday, Michelle.

I had Bible study all morning and then my friend took me to the Farmer’s Market.

It’s a rainy afternoon. Glad I got the lawn mowed yesterday in sections between the times of rain. We are saturated!

  6. Michelle, the friend who took me to the Farmer’s Market and is in my Bible study recently shared a Jamie Winship podcast with me. I was amazed and shared it with my son and suggested that he share it with his friend at L’Abri.

  7. I’m working to spruce up my place little by little, but the heat makes it hard for now.

So today I decided to do leaf blowing on the driveway and then there were lots of leaves around the side of the house. I persevered, but it does not work to blow leaves one way while the wind is blowing them towards you. I was covered with leaves and dirt!! oh, well, I tried

    Enjoy your special day, Michelle!
