  1. Good morning. My husband stayed up all night with my dad so I could get some sleep. I did. Now husband is sleeping. As is my dad, who slept almost all night. He has been getting up multiple times every night to change beds (actually chairs but he calls them bed, won’t sleep in his real bed). Yesterday afternoon, he got up (assisted) over forty times to move to another chair, always looking for the right one and never finding it.

  2. Praying for you folks Mumsee.

Many of us have similar stories of aged loved ones in decline. It can be hard.

We love you folks, and we lift you before our Lord.

Whether your father realizes it or not, you and Mike are blessing him greatly. He may not see it, but we do, and the Lord does too.

We thank you for the fine example you show us of dealing with it all.

  3. As for this weekend’s header….. 🙀

Hey, Peter sent it, I post it. Thems the rules.

I assume it’s a wax figure, but hope Peter comes around to enlighten us on the specifics.

  4. I know, Mumsee, that you practice thankfulness in all things, even in such tough times. I was thinking that though he is terribly restless that he is getting exercise and can miraculously still move so well at his age.

  5. I think my phone or powers that be outside the phone don’t like the header. When I hit on Wandering Views, it pulled up a bunch of videos under the title of wandering views. That has never happened ever.

  6. For anyone following my Real ID saga, it ended quietly with the DMV guy saying, “You’re renewing your Real ID. You don’t need all those papers.”

    Can I not read anymore?

Or can people not write clear directions anymore?

Anyway, the CA DMV has straighten themselves out quite nicely. I could accept a place in line from my computer (#22), drive 20 minutes to the DMV (including making a wrong turn), and still get there with plenty of time to smoothly transition in.

The whole adventure took about 90 minutes–plus 2 hours on the computer filling out [unneccessary] paperwork and taking a required refresher course.

  7. Sorry I sounded whiny. Not my intent at all. Just trying to be truthful and straight forward and maybe even giving some folks a head’s up on what they may be given by God. Our situation is really quite easy relative to many others. It has been great for the children to learn compassion for the elderly. It has given husband a traveling companion as dad loves to go for drives daily. And it has given me lots of time for Bible reading.

  8. We don’t think you were whining, just sharing your thoughts and struggles. We appreciate that as I said, and enjoy the chance to lift you to Him in times like these. It’s what friends and brethren do, and we’re thankful to help.

  9. Agree with AJ. Mumsee, you were not whiny. I am sorry if my comment came across as critical. I was just trying to find the bright side of the situation which is very difficult, indeed. I have to keep training myself to look on the bright side as my life seems quite difficult at times

  10. Mumsee – If we cannot share our burdens and difficulties because we might sound whiny, then we would be denying ourselves the benefit of the prayers and comfort of our brothers and sisters in Christ. And we would be denying those brothers and sisters the privilege of offering those prayers and that comfort.

  11. Janice – That is a good practice. I’ve known a couple older women in my life who tended to look on the negative way more than the positive, and they developed critical and complaining attitudes. Very sad!

  12. I have been challenged by a few Bible verses lately to try an improve myself and my outlook. It is wrong of me to try and apply it to other people though because God meant it as a personal challenge for me.

  13. oh, I have no problem struggles and joys and requesting prayer. You all have known me long enough to know that! I just don’t like to whine when I do it.

A few weeks ago, in a moment of harshness, my husband out of characterly told me I was harping. He then bought me a harp and told me I could harp at him any time I wanted. I totally like the harp but am trying to control my tongue a bit better.

  14. Janice – Right. When God convicts us of something and prompts us to change, we should take it personally, and not look for and judge the same thing in others. We are all at different stages of growth, with some having started the journey with more baggage than others, and some less.

  15. Son did not make it home for Mother’s Day because flooding was predicted for the roadways, and he has an apartment repair issue. It has been a nice day, anyways, but maybe a bit too chilly. We seem to be hanging on in the 50s with cloudy gloom overhead. I do prefer this to the very hot weather. My hair is in a flair with all the humidity.

  16. Believe it or not, Janice we were 93 degrees today with strong winds. That gave us an extreme fire warning. We were in most of the day, since my husband’s group played for a Mother’s Day dinner. This evening, we had a nice walk. We found out the mosquitoes are out.

I never expect anyone home for Mother’s Day. Everyone is too busy and/or too far away. We communicate all the time, though. I never made it home to my mom’s either, mostly because my husband played music in a show (mostly with our daughter) every year on that day. It is opening fishing in MN on that weekend, and he was one of the few who did not fish. Therefore, he always got asked to play music.

  17. I got to see one (step)daughter, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, mother(in-law), sister- and brother-in-law for Mother’s Day, but it meant driving to both houses, Fort Wayne and Grand Rapids area. In a bed and breakfast now.
